RAFA'S CHALLENGE FOR RIERA

Rafael Benitez today challenged Albert Riera to build on his 'best display so far' after the Spaniard played an influential role in Liverpool's 5-0 demolition of Aston Villa last weekend.

The Spanish international scored a brilliant goal and won a penalty during the thrashing of Martin O'Neill's men, and the boss insists there is more to come from our number 11.

"He has had some good games but because the team was playing really well this could be his best game so far," the boss told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I thought he started really well against Manchester United in his first game and he has scored some good goals for us.

"Riera has quality but he has to be more consistent. Clearly he is a player with ability and he can score great goals.

"When he is playing well he can beat anyone so that is what you always expect from a winger. He is playing with confidence."

Meanwhile, his partner down the left flank Fabio Aurelio has also had pundits singing his praises, and Benitez admits he is not surprised by this.

"Fabio is a fantastic professional, a fantastic person and a fantastic player," said Benitez.

"You can see on the pitch his left foot is amazing. When he scored at Old Trafford I wasn't surprised, because when he was with me at Valencia he scored five goals in one season all from free-kicks.

"I am really pleased with him because if you know him as a player and as a professional he is amazing.

"If he can play games in a row and stay fit then we will see the best of him."

Barca and RM want him as well.Heard he doesnt want to leave Spain and he might PREFER them over us.Then again, nothing is sure.As for Raúl Albiol , if Agger sign new contract, I cant see him coming.If agger didn't, we will have him ,90% I would say...

As far as I know the first pic is what's likely to be next season's away kit.

The second pic is what some of us prefer i.e. a big Liverbird instead of the normal crest. Oh, and it's not authentic.

har... the second design's really great. WAY better than the 1st one although the latter ain't that bad lol

RAFA: WE WILL NOT BE SIGNING SILVA

Speculation has been growing that the 23-year-old Spaniard is Benitez's top target at the end of the season, but the manager today insisted Silva will not be Anfield bound.

"We will not be signing him," was Benitez's reply when asked at Melwood earlier today.

Despite ruling an approach for Silva out of his summer plans, the boss insisted work is gathering pace behind the scenes to identify targets ahead of next season.

"We are working hard, talking with the scouting department and looking at names and options for next season," he added.

"It's still too soon, but we are working hard."

While beginning to formulate his plans for the new campaign, Benitez is well aware of what could still lie ahead this term - and of the sense of excitement among Liverpool supporters after the gap at the top of the table was closed to just one point.

"Football can change very quickly and that is why we say it is important to just take one game at a time," he added.

"Everything can change each week and maybe next week we can be at the top again. My message to the fans is to keep calm. I can see the people have a lot of confidence at the moment and that is good. We have to stay positive and see what happens."
