Always wanted to do hiking & outdoor adventures but never done it. So I'm gonna start with hiking this month!

Question on hiking shoes, how breathable is a waterproof shoe in our weather?
I'm considering waterproof because I will be doing some wet trails once I'm in NZ later this year biggrin.gif
*
Shoes are not waterproof, more to water repellent to me as if water enter through the top it still wets.

I will highly recommended those with good grips since you are doing with terrain. Any brand should be okay, as long as you are comfy and know your footing.

Where you going to start your hike?

are the water repellent ones breathable in our weather? I'm afraid I will sweat a lot, I already have sweaty feet and if those are not breathable, it'll be so much worst!

Gonna start with Selangor & KL areas: Gasing, Tabur, Broga etc. biggrin.gif

Tabur is closed at the moment - you need to apply permit.

Gasing and Broga should be easy for you.

Yeah it is breathable in our weather. When hike you are meant to sweat so I just ignore them. biggrin.gif

thanks for the info!
What happened to Tabur?

I've spotted 2 shoes so far in World of Outdoors, have yet to decide which to get.
Hi Tec Adventurer Lace WP (weatherproof, buffalo leather drool.gif) ~ RM320
Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 ~ RM475
*both prices are after discount

Hi there. You can just liaise with the management directly. Contact them at http://www.mulupark.com/htm/reservation/index.htm. Please take note that booking should be made in advance.

Good luck!

Thumbs up on that. You could do Route C to Route D to waterfall to Ah Pak Hill then backtrack to Saga hill to route B before back to starting point in Jalan Saga 28.

It depends you would love to get the guide from the Management from Mulu or stand alone guides which is nearby the resort. Approx 10-15 minutes drive from the airport.

You will required certain stamina on this although accomodation still being pampered like those in Kinabalu for Pinnacles or I refer that mountain as Gunung Api.

Gunung Mulu is a tougher mountain to hike and no hotel facility there with minimum 4 days 3 nights camp in huts but even with the hut - it is seriously cold during the night.

Just want to ensure no one confuse Gunung Mulu as Pinnacles here.

As for the caves, which caves are you referring to as there are many caves in Mulu National Park. If the Bat Caves, you could ownself walk on the plank trail by yourself. If you are referring to the biggest cave nearby entry point to Gunung Mulu, you might required a guide as the jungle route is always the tricky part.

If you need any contact from Mulu, feel free to ask me.

Tabur West had a few fatalities in recent months.

Therefore you will need to apply license and pay RM5 from Forestry Department located in Cheras.

Just get the comfy shoes that suits your leg.

Cannot understand how Gunung Suku can die. I been there so many times and do not see any danger point at all.

Are you referring to island beaches? Camping in beaches is okay but if you are alone there I will suggest you to have more people along. Afraid being robbed.

island or mainland is okay, but I am looking for jungle trekking that ended at beach.

Anyway, is Tabur East also closed relating to the incident happened at Tabur West?

Island: Pulau Aur, Pulau Dayang

Mainland: Gunung Arong, Mersing.

Not so fancy with camping at the beach therefore I couldn't provide much information.

Last week I have a group that went to East without being stop by the Forestry Department. Guess it should be only applicable for West. Even that you still have Extreme to hike.

Kinabalu can fall to death? Just weird. The weirdest was Suku incident. I believe that hiker might be rushing down from the peak to base as it is all the way downhill descend and will take about 1.5 - 2 hours.

Even if I give you the coordinate for Extreme entrance, you still not able to find the route as there are few trunk roads along the way, few descend, then ascend before descend again (the deep hole) before reaching up to a flat terrain near Extreme.
