Best advice - just need to be careful. I rather backtrack than using the orchard road where most incident at CP 11 occurred.

Nuang still got people got lost even though the trail was clear, especially the route to the two waterfalls in Nuang - Lata Bomoh Ali and the other I couldn't recall the name. Long time never been there. I think it is called Berembun. Rusty with the names already.

If you go with me to Tabur, I make sure you will be safe. *giggle*

Where is this two waterfalls??

I only know Lolo waterfall accessible from Hulu Langat entrance
*
Hmm, how should I describe. There is a route behind one of the abandon orang asli house. From there should be 30 minutes trek inside. Got leech and the waterfall is quite deep.

The other alternative way is to track from the base camp. Normally people will turn left to the parking bay for Nuang summit climb, but on the right side there is a river trek that head towards the waterfall. Could be confusing if you do not know to navigate your way there.

You could refer to this link

http://waterfallsofmalaysia.com/84lolo.php

Quite surprise some of you do not aware that Nuang got waterfalls. *giggle*

You will be curious why the picture stated about 250m apart and the trail will be on the left hand side of the waterfall. This is because it is quite dangerous to climb from one waterfall to another.

Sometimes off track is where you find your excitement and good luck with your Datuk, Rembau and Gagak challenge.

I got a friend who called the Foresty Department and inquire about the situation about the closure of Tabur trail. Understand that they will place officers to monitor both Tabur East and West trails. To enter we will require to send an application form to the Foresty Department for approval and play a fee of RM5. I not sure how long this will work but it could reduce fatality in the near future.

QUOTE(eggplants @ Jan 22 2014, 12:43 AM)
hey guys,

What do you guys normally wear when you go trekking/hiking in this tropic climate?
Do you guys wear shorts or long pants to avoid mosquito and insects?

I usually go for sports shirts like Nike dri-fit, or those light quick-dry material pants from Columbia, Hi-tec makes. But buying these, especially these quick-dry material can be costly around rm150-300.

any recommendations on brands or certain shops around KL with cheaper options to buy clothes that's good for jungle/trekking/hiking in this tropic climate?
*
Nike Dri Fit seems good to most. Short or long pants depends which hill/mountain I trek.

any recommendation on type of long pants?
I rarely wear long pants in this type of weather, and those convertible short-pants by brands like columbia/hi-tec are usually to wide down the legs and expensive.

I just found an alternative to nike dri-fits; the new Uniqlo 'Airism' shirts. They are really lightweight material similar to those cyclist wear. I think they are meant for underwear and fit more tight to your body, but i just upsize and wear as a shirt - best of all its quarter the price of nike dri-fits at rm40.

Wouldn't able to help you as I invest on my stuff. I prefer something durable rather than something cheap.

Short pants you could buy those Nike or Adidas shorts to trek. No need to be fancy with shorts but long is a different story.

Hi all, new to hiking\trekking. Would like to seek recommendations for good shoe wear as the shoes I'm having right now doesn't have a particularly good grip.

Most of the hikings\trekkings in meetup.com required to bring shoes with good profile. I myself had some slip ups on the last hiking attempt at Broga hill a few weeks back.

Appreciate if someone experienced can provide a good feedback of the type of shoes recommended. Thanks.
*
Meet up could be ridiculous at certain times. I once hiked with them before and most wore kampung adidas (local make rubber shoes). By the way, that trip was poorly organized and half of the trip members got separated.

Sport and running shoes is definitely a no for hiking terrain. This is one of the regular mistake where hikers do.

Hiking shoes brands such as Lafuma, Columbia, Timberland, Vibram and Quechua are good example and I rather spend the few hundred bucks to invest on a proper footwear.

What is the use of a good shoes if you are not good in controlling your footing? My best advice is practice your foot placing to know which area should provide you the grips at all time.

Noted and thanks.
What's your advice for beginners? Which hikes are much more suitable for beginners like me?
*
If you are looking for easy terrain hikes you could give the listing a try: -
a. Broga Hill - Semenyih (do not attempt Tok Wan yet if first time)
b. Panorama Hill - Sg Lembing, Kuantan, Pahang (rewarding during Jan - Mar if you add the Rainbow Falls together, hill easy to hike without guide but waterfall required guide and 4WD)
c. Saga Hill - Cheras or Ampang (depends on which route you choose, the only difficult part for beginner is to do the entire loop or till the waterfall, beginner will opt to do same way up and down till peak)
d. Kledang Hill - Ipoh, Perak (relatively easy but not near the KL vicinity)
e. Bintang Hill - Kepong, KL (not the shopping centre name, pretty unknown but a small hill to hike near Kepong)
f. Serdang Hill - Serdang, KL (another neighbourhood hill, could be confusing for first time. Lots of entry point and exit to else where if not being careful)
g. Rasa Hill - located in Rasa, unknown to most
h. Lambak Hill - Kluang, Johore (popular hill in Johore region besides Pulai and Arong)
i. Ketumbar Hill - Cheras, KL (another hill similar as Saga without the waterfall. becareful as I spotted king cobra before and home to lots of aggressive monkeys)
j. Ampang Hill - Ampang, KL (also known as Indah Hill but could be dangerous if alone as pretty quiet up there)

All the listing above are based on my own point of view and the terrain suitability for beginners.

I think other easy hike, Gunung Datuk definitely is not hard.. Just do it slowly, clean and clear trails..
I don't think Chemerung Berembun Langsir is too difficult too, but it's quite far (very rewarding view)
Templer park in Rawang?
Anyone did Gunung Bujang Melaka? heard it's quite difficult
*
Datuk might not be suitable for beginners because of the ladder and that's one of the reason I never include Ulu Bendul's Angsi. Most of the mountains in Malaysia are relatively easy with soil terrain, minimal river crossing but the distance will come into the picture.

Templars Park consider a waterfall destination for me smile.gif

I did Bujang Melaka before and it is quite easy for your standard. Got a huge campsite 1 hour from the peak with clean water source which you could shower and drink.

I cannot recall what's the campsite name but it should be Camp Pacat (no one stay due to no water source and about 2-3 hours from peak) and Camp Lebah (the huge campsite which can fit easily 60 pax).

The only thing I do not like about Bujang Malacca was people could get lost during the first hour as there are many routes which some lead to orang asli village.

Nearby got another hill relatively unknown to others and house lots of live ammo left over from the WW2 called Bullet Hill.

Bukit Tangga not mistaken located in Jelebu district. Used to be a run there before being replace by Datuk and Angsi.

Nearby you can head to Ketumbar or Ampang.

ketumbar refers to this?

eh,.. I thought nuang is the highest peak in Selangor..

found this, Gunung Semangkok
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1835630

Ya, Ketumbar is located in Cheras area. You will pass by a few flat area before reaching the entry point. Ample of parking space there.

Semangkok is debatable as Nuang was being declared the highest mountain in Selangor. Semangkok is located near three state boundaries - Perak, Pahang and Selangor. The reason why I stated Perak as well as there is an old entry point from Lubuk Kawah to Semangkok but not much people used that trail anymore as tiger being spotted there before. Lubuk Kawah used to be a popular fishing spot before the area run dry of kelah fishes.

Two group recently hardcore open the track of Semangkok from Pine Tree Trail. I can assume that the Rhode Peak is the Twin Peak which marks the 2nd peak which offer the 270 degree of panoramic view. From there you will pass by Helipad Campsite and another before reaching the peak of Semangkok.

If to asked me personally, Fraser's Hill is under the management of Pahang therefore Semangkok is part of Pahang instead of Selangor and the highest mountain in Pahang no doubt is Tahan smile.gif
