Actually, you could still use the wool as long as you wash it in the tank water when u are changing the tank water. For an example, when u are drawing out the water from the tank in a pail, just wash the filtering media in the pail then replace it back. This is important because you dont want to kill all the good bacteria when you are washing it thru the pipe water which cointain chlorine.

Change the wool, if the filtering capacity is too low or because it is too dirty. For me, i usually put 3 layers of wool in my top filter. I will only change or wash a piece each time when i change water which is once a week. I wont change all the filter because the good bacteria needs time to cycle.

Cheers.

How does good bacteria produce there ?

For my pond, i use pure gravel for filtering. not any wool.
hahaha

Changing wool might polute the environment though...

Good question. Even in the pond, NI bacteria will also grow. just that if your have a power filter for pond, the bacteria will grow even faster.

Hi, i am new to this.
I have never rare fish bfore.
I only rare other types of animals.
I just bought one gold fish in a small tank. with a small filter.
It's a small gold fish. Not big size.
It has bubble looking bags on their forehead and eyes~

I wanna ask, when i change water weekly.
1. Do i need to wash the filter as well?
2. Do i need to keep half the previous water in the tank?
3. Need to anti chlorine rite?
4. Do i need to add salt??? Some people say add salt, but the seller never ask me to add salt o. Then if i need to add, how much to add?
5. Am i able to put my hand in to play with my goldfish?

Please teach me pleaSe.
I see many people saying that goldfish die very fast and all.
I dont want my fish to die!
I want it to be healthy~
Please let me know if you guys can help^^

1. Yes, if very dirty but dont wash till clean. Got good bacteria in it.
2. Yes, fish can die if change 100% water.
3. Yes, very important.
4. Hmm, depends la. Add maybe once a month or something. Use aquarium salt.
5. Nope, goldfish has this protective slime covered all over the body. If you touch, the slime will remove making your fish vulnerable to diseases.

I tried raring pearlscale goldfish but all died, fed up with GF so got myself a Pacu and South American red tail catfish. Very easy maintenance.

Hey, since goldfishes are supposed to be coldwater, what temperatures are you guys keeping them in? I know if I use an aquarium fan, the temperature should be around 28C.

Also, if I'm interested in Ranchu, can I keep around 1 or 2 in a 1.5 feet tank?
