Fergie already looking ahead
www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk QUOTE SIR Alex Ferguson admitted the Barclays Premier League was his priority after United beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 on penalties to lift the Carling Cup at Wembley. Ben Foster saved Jamie O'Hara's spot-kick, Spurs' first of the shoot-out, and David Bentley missed to send United on their way to their second trophy of the season after the game had ended goalless following extra time. "They took their penalties very confidently," Ferguson told Sky Sports. "Ben Foster did a fantastic save and that gave us a big lift." The United manager admitted he would have preferred to win the match in normal time as United continue to pursue an unprecedented quintuple. "We could have done without extra time to be honest and I suppose Tottenham will be saying the same," he added. "There'll be some tired legs and I need them to freshen up. "The league's a priority and the Champions League as well." Ryan Giggs, Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Anderson all scored in the shoot out for United. Foster was deservedly named man of the match after several impressive stops, as well as his penalty save. The young goalkeeper was delighted with his first Wembley appearance. “It is absolutely fantastic - it was a crazy game,” he said. “The last 30 minutes were played at walking pace, but it was fantastic to get the win. “The pitch started to tear up a bit, but that was the same for both teams. “I definitely have sympathy for them. They put us under massive pressure throughout the game - but football sometimes is cruel.” Foster added an ominous note for teams currently standing in their way in the other trophies United are contesting. He said: “We’re Man United; we want to win everything.” |

haha, another 3 cups. F.A Cup, European Champions League and Barclay Premier League. Of course we want all 6 trophies. Who doesn't? But it is still a long way to go.

It's nice to win a trophy, but the quest to win the quintuple is still far from realistic. We really need to take it 1 game at a time, especially cup competition which is hard to predict. Might be hit by a sucker punch ala Portsmout last season. Hence I keeping reservation of this ambition. EPL and UCL is the priority though.
We might have a healthy lead in the league currently, but hope we won't rest on our laurels and continue carves out good results, especially there's still some tricky games coming out not to mention still quite early yet. Barcelona was leading 12 points at one time, yet Real Madrid managed to cut that down to 4 points now in like 3/4 games. ADDED : wah, long time never see reon bro here. Nice siggy and let's pray you can create another 3 again later this season. @kala jengking merah : the tick seems slightly weird but ok la This post has been edited by shortleg88: Mar 2 2009, 04:15 AM |

I think he'd even last until ET. Heck, there won't be any ET! We would have won it during 90 mins! |

Ben Foster really deserve MOTM.. his saves made especially the one from Lennon is soooo crucial.. At last.. the man who have scored not 2 but 3 goals in a game against us... FAIL to score in Penalty Shoot out.. |
