Hmmm, did I get into mode893's NERVES or what?? Really didnt expect it to be that "effective".

Be cool bro, life is worth more that just "that".

Did I ever say my cheap Nokia phone won sound n music awards too??

Very creative la you.

Cheers

1) Never compare an edited pic with a non-edited one
2) you struck my nerve by deliberately saying 'sorry guys' which means 'my cheap camera is better than your expensive one' which is obviously not the case. Even the cheap C901 can beat your 5mp shooter flat any day
3) W995 won the European Imaging and Sound Award 2009 so I was being sarcastic and not creative. The price is justified for the quality it gives in more ways than just imaging
4) I agree that life is more than just 'that'
5) All is cool when lesson is learnt cool2.gif

by the way, those pics ARE not edited whatsoever, and was taken by a 2 MP Nokia phone, no autofocus either, let alone cybershot, hehehhe

*
Sorry bro, i'm not convinced due to the following reasons

a) The sharpening is too much which suggests some editing. Either that or your
Nokia has the worst case of oversharpening I've ever seen on a camphone

b) This forum allows original resolution to be displayed when you click on the thumbnail. Your photo reads 5mp resolution.

Please clarify. TIA hmm.gif

I want a clarification too xD!!!

The little prick won't clarify because my suspicion is true, check out this thread doh.gif

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/915757/+1320

He posted N79 (hardly a cheap Carl Zeiss optics phone) pictures and claim them to be 2MP in resolution to discredit W995 for some baffling reason shakehead.gif WTH? I wonder what drives a person to do such a thing. Fanboyism? Dunno lah, too weird to fathom hmm.gif
And yes, it has the worst oversharpening algorithm too it seems, that's supposed to be impressive? tongue.gif

QUOTE(zeffjeff @ Sep 11 2009, 07:07 PM)
It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that
*
Apparently I'm a rocket scientist who's allergic to BS wink.gif

*edit* I did something naughty and posted some 3mp W902 photos in the N79 thread whistling.gif They seem to be impressed but I'm feeling guilty already lor coz I haven't told them... blush.gif

@yohaa!
16x zoom with that much detail, wow. I'm guessing it was taken around dawn/dusk (low light)? That's hard to do without steady hands. Here's mine, nothing much the digital zoom can do in full 8mp resolution, making a 100% would be the better option.

Quoted RM1720 for W995 from Horus with 2 years warranty? Is it overpriced? Chermaine original for RM1690 has 2 years warranty too?
*
Why don't you get AP set, I got it for RM1400 6 weeks ago, still got warranty what. Should be even cheaper now. W995 also no issues to be worried about at least for me and worst comes to worst you can always flash your phone for latest firmware using SEUS if there are any software issues, so I don't see the need for original set cool2.gif

Sorry but I dont vote for AP.

Spend a bit more for ORI warranty, peace of mind. nod.gif
*
Well, yeah, AP is not for everyone. Just like some people who feel more secure and confident wearing original brands than Petaling Street ones. But for phones, quality wise is the same, only the after service that's different (AP only covers certain parts)

Seasons greetings all,

@knuckleballer
I use fluorescent white balance in lowlight shots or incandesent for really poor lighting. The night pictures really fly with the current camera s/w version 1.7. Used to use 'document' mode to increase sharpness in lowlight for W902 but W995 doesn't need more sharpening in that condition nod.gif

@mls_gamer
Thanks dude smile.gif

@skyer
Battery life could be better. Wonder why it's the same battery as W902 when W995 can do much more. Camera drains the battery really fast but media, wifi, data, gps usage lasts surprisingly long. But I always have my car charger (bought ori, very good investment) and usb cable in the office so battery life outside the house has never been a problem for me. wink.gif

That's right. The default setting is you can answer calls when you open the slide but you need to switch the setting to "on" to hang up when you close the slide.

does anybody know how to configure W995 to be able to connect to wireless with WPA2-enterprise security?

my house is using WPA2-personal security and it only asks me to key in the password. but when i tried to connect to my University's wireless, it can't detect any wireless network unless I manually configuring it. but still, I can't connect to the wireless.
*
Sorry can't help you with the issue as i've never been a power user of wifi. Let me see if I can google up something though wink.gif

@panasonic88
That's a W705 actually doh.gif

FW version R1GA026 are available for W995.. Get it via SEUS.. APAC-ANZ region  doh.gif

Thanks for the info. Updated via SEUS, there's memory for manual equalizer, nice thumbup.gif But album art on the album list is no longer supported, album art appears only when you play tracks, NOT HAPPY vmad.gif Haven't noticed other changes, SE never release their changelog, probably one of the reasons why the company's not doing well, lack of communication with consumers

I can't seem to make the W995 camera take close-up objects properly. There's always motion-blur or something. Maybe because it was using poor lighting or I haven't learned to use it properly yet. Also the flash isn't as nice as the N82 Xenon flash.

But overall I like my W995 very much.  thumbup.gif

IMO macro shots is W995's speciality, check your cam software version, be sure to update it. I've posted some examples a few pages back, you can check them out smile.gif

Anyway, congrats on your new phone, hope you enjoy it thumbup.gif

Never had the chance to compare the two phones. But W995 sure beats Innov8 for indoor shots with moderate lighting. I made a comparison shot last week and it really surprised me. Dunno anyone who has N82 so I can't say but 3R-4R printed photos for normal shots from W995 looks like digicam quality, I guess printing good pics is all that matters at the end of the day

Pic 1= Innov8
Pic 2= W995

All auto setting

i tought its better to focus first before snapping the picture?
*
Actually a lot of people don't realize that you only need to do one press for the shutter button to focus and snap all at once on SE phones and yes, it's a good way to get steady shots, use to do that a lot with my W902 because the button was a bit stiff to press, but I don't do it as often on W995 because the button's tactility is much better.

@Andrew
Yes, all cam phones with LED flash is not as easy to handle as Xenon flash phones since the shutter speed is significantly much less with LED making sharp pictures somewhat harder to achieve, but macro in daylight should be a piece of cake really, since the shutter speed is really fast. But for indoor shots, there's a trick to holding the camera so you can get a steady shot, the answer is in the boy's eyes wink.gif

LOL no lah, if you look carefuly you can see a rather distorted reflection of my hands holding my black W995 with the grip I use to hold it steadily. The silvery thing is my ring wink.gif It looks pretty distorted coz the spheric eyeballs make the image appear fisheye-like. You can barely make out the camera lens, the Sony Ericsson wording and the kickstand smile.gif

The part that looks like my legs are actually my arms LOL

@-Max91-
If you decide to go ahead, backup your data (phonebook, sms, notes, calender, settings etc) with MyPhoneExplorer (MPE), you can dowload it here

http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php

Never trust SE's own backup software, it's essentially crap compared to MPE rclxs0.gif

Does the back-up include the infos in "Code Memo"?

Btw, my phone the Sony Ericcson word in front the "S" already came out and my "Megapixel 8.1" and "M2 Memory Card"  those words also came out d...T_________T...cannot change one hor those?
*
Sorry, don't think it backs up Code Memo but it backs up most of the other things

That's strange, do you rub your phone against something all day everyday? The Sony Ericsson wording in the back cover is even embossed on metal so how is that possible? And my phone has fallen on the road tar 3 times already and aside from unnoticeable scratches, it still looks great. If it's still under warranty you may be able to replace the housing though I'm not sure if wear and tear is included hmm.gif

Yes, this is a typical Feature in SE Feature phones. Excuse the pun. SE's smartphones play full length message alerts though happy.gif . Unfortunately there are no apps or mods that I know of that could extend the length of the alert grumble.gif

Guys I've encountered another issue.
Let's say I go to the Contacts menu and I see a list of all my contacts.
Now I want search for a name, let's say "Andrew Lim".

Using my N82 if I typed "Lim", the contact list would be filtered to include "Andrew Lim".

But it seems that for SE, it will only find "Andrew Lim" if I start with "A" ?
*
Yes, that's right. But you can change the setting to show the surname first instead of the first name and then perform the search for "Lim"
