Tried updating the firmware of my bro's W995 but SEUS tells me that its already on the latest firmware doh.gif

Still can't connect to any WiFi networks. ish.
*
Even if it's the latest firmware there's a possibility that the there's an error with your current firmware when it was loaded. SEUS has the "update anyway" option which will reinstall your current firmware and perhaps correct that error.

Bought my W995 for 1k, traded my W902 in for it. I have to say I'm very happy with it so far. N86 may have everything under the sun, but W995 already has more than what I need like, for example, WiFi which I don't need with my data plan and WQVGA video recording for youtube and facebook because for me, anything bigger would be a pain to upload. I can't be bothered with quantity anymore. Suits me well with its simplicity of use, fast UI and beautiful design- now those are quality stuff. I think the sound is the best experience for any mobile phone which is in line with GSMArena's review, especially when used with HPM-88 or Noise Cancellation headsets (I use Sony's MDR-22NC). Just make sure you use my equalizer settings tongue.gif Now people, let me demonstrate the imaging prowess of the phone if I may flex.gif

@All
Yes I'm a new owner, thanks happy.gif I take pics whenever I can to experiment on its capabilities and so far with the original camera software ver 1.7 it's really taking off.
@Profrahhen
Sorry, Garmin's not compatible blink.gif only Wayfinder Navigator. I'm not well versed with GPS/aGPS, I'm more of a Google Maps person so I'm not so sure what advantages/disadvantages it has over Garmin. AFAIK Wisepilot might be compatible.
@mls_gamer
Yes, I had a hard time refraining myself from eating it while attempting to shoot it drool.gif

does it lags when do multitasking?

Nice things:

Doesn't lag like W902, much improved UI speed. Slider opens up with a "schhhick" sound, really nice wub.gif Keypad tactility is superb, kickstand very useful especially when my daughter wants to watch her Barbie movie. aGPS locks in my location within seconds, my 16GB M2 works smooth as it should, 3.5mm jack works absolutely awesome with my Noise Cancellation headset. Best audio I've ever heard on a phone. Nice music keys tactility and placement very convenient. Semi-circle softkey buttons more comfortable to use than I thought. Tons of apps and games preinstalled. Wifi easier to connect than my notebook or my last smartphone. WQVGA video great for uploading quality mp4's to Facebook/Youtube at reasonably small size. Media Go is smooth and fast at transferring and optimizing video files to suit its 2.6" screen. Excellent size and weight, the design grows on me everyday thumbup.gif

Not so nice things:

To much screen contrast (not adjustable AFAIK), gives false colour impression of photos taken, movies with dark ambience would seem too dark. Stereo speaker quality not up to par with my W902 and my wife's phone's mono speakers. Camera's outer lens easily smeared by fingerprints, unlike my previous W902 which is recessed, relatively protecting the lens from constant contact. Battery is BST-38 which is not enough for such multimedia powerhouse, same battery as my previous 2.2" screen W902. Not a fan of the stupid side fastport but at least they placed it right this time, away from palm/thumb contact. shakehead.gif

actually w995's camera not as c905 .. i tried , less some function ..like smart contract , red eye reduct .. and also the flash when night , look not so nice ..

Added on August 20, 2009, 9:31 pmit means it still a walkman phone absolutely.. haha

C902 doesn't have Xenon either annd was one of SE's flagships at one time, and C510 no smart contrast / red eye reduction oso maa blush.gif Perhaps we should judge on the performance (ie sensor, cam module etc) and not just specs no?
Anyway, here are some more random low light and daytime shots nod.gif

@skyer
No lah, my hands are as shaky as the next guy but I try to find ways to handle the camera as best as I can tongue.gif

Anyway, my W995 did me proud by winning the prestigious EISA Awards recently

I love this phone. But it seem pretty expensive.
May I know how much you guys bought it? for those who already bought it, can you share your price here......

Thanks
*
I think the AP price for W995 right now is about RM14++. Got mine for 1k after I traded in my W902 biggrin.gif If you have a good phone you might get it for even less if you trade it in.

Anyway, just experimenting with some really low light shots and I like the outcome so far. The colours in some of the photos almost look like taken out of a digicam (I would like to think of course, haha). I've even found a way to make the photos brighter than they are in real life without imposing too much noise. Here they are...

Is it Google Maps with "preloaded maps" ? or we need data transmition / download map each time use GPS?  rclxub.gif
*
I've done some homework on the GPS functionality, and yes, Wisepilot which has an identical UI to that of Garmin is also compatible. Both Wayfinder Navigator (which is preinstalled out of the box) and Wisepilot allow you to preload maps. AFAIK, Google Maps don't support preloaded maps though. Just a word of precaution, while abroad, make sure you diactivate aGPS and use only GPS or data charges may incur.

More low light pics. I'm getting more and more impressed with my W995. Some of these pictures have accurate colour reproduction even in very low lighting conditions nod.gif

@Dogta
Yes, that's right, it's in the service menu. But somehow my slider count has always registered "0". Maybe you can check and see so that I know if it's the same for all W995 or I have a faulty one rclxub.gif

Hi guys. Just tried C510 yesterday, did consider it before getting my W995 and boy am I glad I made the right decision. That phone has got to be the worst camera phone with autofocus. Ever. I truly wonder how they convinced Sony to endorse a Cybershot branding on a phone with such poor optics. It will only hurt SE at the end of the day. But, back on a brighter note, W995 camera kicks arse!

c510 is aim for the mid level~~~
but if compare to walkman high series with 8.1mp sure w995 win thumbup.gif
*
Yes, I'm aware of that fact. But that doesn't give them the excuse to use such poor optics especially on a Cybershot branded phone as now I believe they have shot their own foot yet again. But that's not what this thread is about, I was just pointing out that I'm glad I went for this W-series instead. My choices were 1)C510 2)C901 and W995 wasn't even in the list lol

*Happy Merdeka Everyone!*

Branded optics don't impress me either, Nokia 5800 is supposed to have Carl Zeiss optics but the camera is still lousy to me. I think SE just needs to use decent optics, not something that'll make people feel conned and ultimately ruin their own reputation

OK guys, wasn't fair for me to make the earlier statement without anything to back it up, so here are the comparison shots between C510 and W995. I've scaled all images down to the same size at 800 x 600 so both ar at par in terms of megapixels. All photos taken under the same lighting conditions. To C510 owners, sorry, I'm not picking on the phone, it's just that I had the chance to play around with the Cybershot phone and these are my findings. I will soon make a comparison shot with my sister's C905 so stay tuned folks!

*Edit*

Just to make things more interesting, the last photos are taken with the non-autofocus G700 under the same lighting conditions as well. By order, 1)C510 2)W995 3)G700. Just wanted to point out the obvious doh.gif

I feel you bro. So many C510 users have been let down by SE. I think it shouldn't have been named a Cybershot in the first place (i mean, it loses to G700 for God's sake). On the other hand they have really improved on the quality of some of their other phones, namely C901 and W995. I've dropped my phone countless times and it's performance is still as solid as a rock. Maybe you should trade it in while it still has value (before people find out the crap it really is), perhaps with C901 which has excellent optics for a change thumbup.gif

more pics, taken by a cheap Nokia phone, sorry guyz
*
I can show you a cheap SE phone that can do that too, so you can brag after you disclose the model and full resolution of evening shots as well because this is where it makes a difference, not with sharpened, photoshopped resolution (and you think I wouldn't know that?) in bright daylight in some foreign country (I also know it's from Perth Australia) with clear sky. And your Nokia fanboyism in a W995 thread is really inappropriate and funny laugh.gif

I suppose your cheap phone won the European Imaging and Sound Award for Best Music Phone as well? Oh, I forgot, it didn't, that's probably why it's cheap (d-uh) thumbup.gif

Yes, they're just a wee bit dimmer than it's supposed to be and I puposely did that by lowering the exposure value which I find gives more warmth to the images. It's hard to capture warm photos in Malaysia's humid wheather (ah, the irony of it) and diffused daylight in full auto due to the clouds, these conditions do make a difference actually. I captured really impressive postcard-like photos in France before with just my 2mp P990 cam, but I couldn't reproduce the same quality with the same phone here due to the mentioned conditions. So with W995, I found a workaround but it results in slightly dimmer images, but are still very much within the acceptable threshold.
