Looks like it's not difficult to spot K800 to N82 users. I'm one of them  tongue.gif

I don't like the way S60's music player works. It pulls musics from all folders, and it makes me wonder why do they separate two folders (Digital and Simple) when they are gonna list all of time anyways?

It takes ages to browse through my entire playlist just to look for the ringtone or sms tone I want. For now, I have excluded my ringtones and sms tones from appearing in the music player by hiding the Simple folder. Setting ringtone is easy as I can browse to the Simple folder using Y-Browser, open the song in music player and set it as ringtone from there.

The thing is, there is no option to set sms tone from the music player itself. I have to browse to "Settings > General > etc.." to set my sms tone. What troubles me is that the sms tone is not listed as I've hide Simple folder. I have to unhide it, refresh the music player, then only the tones will reappear, again, in the long damn list. I have to browse through my 360+ songs just to locate a 2-second long sms tone!

The ultimate question, is there anyway to solve this? Make the music player index only the Digital folder, while the ringtone and sms tone selection only index files from the Simple folder. I remember reading something like this, but I didn't bookmark it. And now, I couldn't find it anymore. Google returns nothing  sad.gif
*
I rename my Ring Tones music to start with RT and SMS message tones to start with MT. Manual grouping rclxub.gif But still have to browse through the entire list to reach M or R doh.gif

Anyway, to the rest, if you want a music player phone, N82 is a wrong choice. N95/N95-8GB is better, as it has music player keys. 5800XM is even better.

I would say N82 is somewhere between 5800XM/N95 and the E-Series. More towards a serious/work related phone. Also more towards camera side.

they say garmin is more detailed in rural areas
cities..the level of detail between maps n garmin does not have much difference
*
doh.gif Garmin is the the software application.

More detail in rural areas is due to the maps. With GMXT, you can use either Malsingmap or Malfreemap. Both has the best details for our local M'sia (incl Borneo) and Kiasuland S'pore.

Nokia Maps software application, the map is also known as Nokia Maps. blink.gif

I have both installed, but 99% using GMXT + MFM thumbup.gif

regarding GMXT, do i MUST use a card reader to install GMXT & map on my microsd?
or can i just plug in the nokia cable under mass storage?
*
Mass Storage - Yes. The PC must be able to write to the memory card as <Drive>:\Garmin
e.g. E:\Garmin

Use MFM-Lite. Very fast. thumbup.gif

Change symbol -> download from Garmin and install.

Cantonese voice-guidance - forgot who provided it before. sweat.gif

Read the download FAQ and unlock code FAQ in MSM website doh.gif You need to contribute before they give you the unlock code for free.

ok buddy...but i think MFM is quite good la....but the u turn navigation seem to be not working....and sometimes got something wrong with the gps 1...not so accurate...
*
Use MFM-Lite, faster than MFM.

GPS is just a navigation guide. You still need to use common sense and look around. Also use intuitive when driving. Don't blindly "turn right, then turn right" doh.gif

But GPS very helpful smile.gif yesterday tried out a new shortcut.

Hey, i wanna ask how long ur garmin will recalculate the route?? mine seem to be very slow....
*
My GMXT 5.00.40 + MFM-Lite 1.55 recalculates in about 3-5 seconds. No matter I'm travelling in Klang valley, or pointing to a far away destination up north, east or south.

Previous using MFM+Topo, too heavy and slow, takes 5-8 seconds to recalculate.

fender,

Not normal. GMXT should not auto-terminate or hang the phone.

Try install JBtask-manager. Freeware. You can try kill GMXT from there (similiar like PC press Ctrl+Alt+Del to list out task manager and kill app/process)

yeah i heard of it but haven't install it yet.
i think the accelerometer (too many rotations) + backlight display (off/on also few times) made my phone like that..
*
GMXT v5.00.40 rotate, I don't encounter issue anymore, other than hang a few seconds.

Default settings -> Backlight will auto-off, except during navigation (always on)

But off/on, should not hang too long or forever.

Memory leak. All goes down to basic programming of allocating memory and free up memory. Can happen for both OS and applications.

har?? sry i don understand?? what do  u mean??
*
Only true programmers understand this. tongue.gif malloc, calloc, free. Not those simply declare variables using development tools, as the tool itself maybe a memory leak source.

Solution: Reboot or switch off->on your h/p at least once every few days.

Same as you reboot your WinXP PC once every few days if you never shutdown.

200kb maybe due to SMS message. The memory leak will always happen.

And im going to question that why is my standby time for N82 is only 3 days instead of 225 hours ++ stated by NOKIA??
Im using GSM only but the standby time only can last 3 days - 3.5 days...no more...my phone and battery is new 1!!! rclxub.gif
*
Take out your SIM card. Set to GSM only (No UMTS). Full charge a new battery (original authorised etc.). Leave your h/p at a place and do not touch it at all. Guarantee will reach 200 hours rolleyes.gif

That is how Nokia probably test it.

Or, you can try with 012 and 016 SIM card. Leave and no touch. Preferably no one call the numbers.

Previously I notice 012 drain more than 016 on my N6230.

I wonder what's the power usage for you guy's N82 when it's in Power Saver mode. Here's mine, averaging from 0.04W to 0.08W more or less:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

GSM only, Wi-Fi off, bluetooth off. Using cClock.
*
The application itself, takes up battery power. Try leave it running and how long your battery can last.

*
1) For Nokia 200 hours, take out the SIM card.

2) To test which telco drain more, put and leave the SIM card inside. But you will still not achive 200 hours. Maybe 48-96 hours max.

Two different test.

Ok. I did not run the power test. But mine last on average 1-2 days only. sweat.gif If use GPS longer, half-day or several hours only.

AceCombat,

Please PM me earlier. I can't online from Fri night till Mon morning.

christcwl9,

The car temperature under hot afternoon sun, can easily reached >50°C

The continuous/regular excessive heat, will wear-out the board/components life-cycle. However, the most damaging will be the battery.

Still same. The heat will wear out the components and circuit board. It will die faster, slowly.

AceCombat,

Already PM you my details. I don't mind bank-in tomorrow. If you trust me, I'll bank in for you on Monday.

Just now left 3-4 bars (after ~36 hours). I connect to PC, do dial-up. Straight-away drop to 1 bar and low-battery warning. sweat.gif I think my authorised-original battery is going to die soon. Good that this 1800mAh come for me to test. I charge about 5-6 times a week, switched on 24 hours a day. Use for >12 months. Just I expect the battery life-cycle.

Now still can last 1-1.5 days on my normal usage.
