Risky indeed. When you get into the boat, the boat sinks.

Most company's earning will take a beating this year, even the best company will suffer. better earn less than loss more. am wondering are you guys thinking of taking out your fixed deposit to buy shares? QUOTE(cherroy @ Feb 26 2009, 04:19 PM) Dividend alone surely cannot cover your capital loss if market head south. But if you are not needing those money, while the stock is fundamental sound, and ability to withstand recession impact (surely profit will drop, but at lesser degree compared to market average), then it is high chance long term future, you will be gaining. Just like you bought a stock or a reit at 1.20, dividend yield 10%. but it sink to 1.00, but your 1.20 is getting 10% yield so treat it as FD lor. Even dividend drops to 5% (expected all dividend will be lowered which mostly can't run away with it), you are still earning more than FD rate. When one day, market recover and the price goes back up to 1.20. Even at breakeven point, you are already gain more than your FD. That's major advantage of having dividend stock. Btw, I don't know Uchitec. What's the company doing then. QUOTE(Singh_Kalan @ Feb 26 2009, 10:21 PM) Definitely no at this moment, at least not this year. QUOTE(Junior83 @ Feb 27 2009, 07:33 AM) my 2 cents worth...I think the crude oil factor especially in terms of flactuations are insignificant facvtor now, generally the Plantation Sector is more worried about supply and demand rather than an increasing Crude Oil price. Most biodiesel plants r prolly on the verge of closing down, ever since palm oil price hovering around Rm 2K and below. My forecast is the price will gradually depreciate from 1800 +/- to about 1600 +/- by late Jun/July 09, being the end of the El Nina/Lila whatever its called effect over the Asia Pac region causing a dop in production. Remember there was a supply glut around Dec 08. July 09 to Dec 09 contracts for FCPO, is going to be really tough time for plantation.Nov & Dec 09 FCPO contracts being the most severely affected. News http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...54&sec=business I've liquidated most of my plantation stoks waiting for the year end, currently picking up on stocks like TM resorts hopeful of a turn around for 4 Q 09... If u lost it, ur life may lost all together. think twice. It is only applicable to excess FD one has. Never use some saving that is essential and needed for stock market because stock market you can't control the timing of liquidation because even though the good share you bought will go up in the long term future, but if you cannot wait for it, then it is not good at all. No one knows how long the recession will be. It can be 1 year, can be 3 years even 5 years before any recovery in economy start to taking place. But one thing for sure, economy won't be doom forever, economy boom and burst is always cyclical. Don't over optimistic about stock market to recover quickly, but also don't overly pessimistic as overly pessimistic will only mean one is going to miss in taking advantage of the burst cycle. |
