need some serious help, my japanese carpet grass and nearly dying off I want to rejuvenate back, but my budget is tight currently to replace it, planning to buy some japanese carpet grass seed and go from there, anyone know where can I buy those seeds?
*
You need to find out why the grass dying out. Will the new grass grow back?

Unless you have big yard, an ordinary size garden won't cost you much if DIY.

bought come herbicide from nursery and spray on them, according to them it will kill my weed but not my japanese grass, but it killed both, i figure it would be pointless to go back to them and argue, so i'm on my own now, lawn around 600sqft

Alamak kena con.

Using seed, not sure the result is good and satisfy.

But buying in patch, can grow faster. Depend your budget of how many patch of grass can buy. Remember 1 patch 12"x10" is about RM7-7.5.

Your grass not dying. Sometime weather too hot and dry will cause such condition.

If want look very green, use fertilizer. It normally call baja urea. With 46% nitrogen. Suitable for lawn. Diluted with water and spray around. 2-3week, it will look very green.

Hi All,

recently I bought Japanese grass from sg buloh for my garden, few days after planting it. I noticed some of the grass leaf turned bit yellowish, thinner and curly. Refer photo below the area circled in red, compared to normal jap grass at the left area.

Anyone know what is happening and how do I cure/prevent it?

For Japanese grass, you need to water it more frequently. Compare other grass. Cannot be dry. I water it morning before work and after work late evening.

I water them 3 times a day :| in the morning, noon time and late evening. A gardener advised to water it 3 times day until the grass fully covers the whole garden area.

Looking at your garden, you did not put sand as the top layer?
*
Actually it already have sand on the ground. Why it so dark is because of the compose plant/weed. Rich with fertilizer.

Since you have watering it a lot, than don't worry about it. It will grow back and cover over it.

The grass probably try to suit itself to the new environment and the soil. Damn your soil is too salty and get kill. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(hushymushy @ Jun 6 2015, 08:17 PM)
hi all sifu.....i received below quote from my regular grass cutter

its basically to plant grass for my garden....

here's the itemized quote (total garden size 497sqft to 500sqft)

1. removal of weed, wild grass with Round Up - RM100
2. fine sand - RM450 (which i thought is abit too expensive)
3. top soil - RM350 for 5 bags (he said organic soil....any difference??)
4. clearing of all waste, unwanted soil and rubbish- RM150
5. pearl grass - RM3/sqft
6. overall labou4 - RM300

so based on my garden size, he quoted me total of 2840.

what do you guys think? very expensive???
*
Why don't try DIY? You have 2-3person to do?

1) weed killer cost below RM20 + pressure pump from ACE RM20 = RM40. Just 1 cap mix with water spray 4-5x entire ground. Wait 2week and the weed will die. Best when no rain time.

2) Last time I get fine sand for RM75/lorry. Not sure what the price now. Take 4 lorry sand should be around that price.

3) If the weed can grow, maybe no need top soil. Fine sand should be enough.

4) Clear the big debric. Just throw it ownself. Find around yourside see who have reno with big tong.

5) Pearl grass, find at sg.buloh. Maybe 50pcs = RM3/sqft = rm150. Maybe can get cheaper. Cut it out and spread equally. More pcs = grow faster.

6) Labour = Treat your family a nice meal.

That is about RM40+RM450+RM150 = RM640. And a nice meal RM360. =RM1000 thumbup.gif Save a lot there.

hhhmmmm i scared i dunno how to do it then the grass die.....

I feel planting grass is easy. But take care is time consuming. This 2week only, almost everyday I have to pluck out the weed. It grow faster than I can pluck it out. sweat.gif

So even you asking someone to plant for you, they are not going to following takecare for you. You still have to do the job to make sure it grow healthy. That is really you need to learn.

You actually can make it as a weekend family event. Everybody work on the garden. It is happy event and an experience for the kids.

When your family take part on it, you will pay more effort on the garden to makesure it look nice.

QUOTE(7up @ Oct 20 2015, 02:30 PM)
everyday i see stray cat poop on my carpet grass.

Any idea how i can prevent this?

So fed up with this poop and flies, i feel like giving up on tiling up the whole area.
*
1. Look for the cat owner and talk to him.
2. If the owner don't give a fark, scoop up the poop and throw back to their compound. After few time, the cat will not poo again on your grass but their place.
3. If stray cat, get a trap, trap it and send it far far away. Or SPAD.

I know.  Who wants to harm the animals?

This is just to scare the owner so that the owner will take action.
Else, most of them just tidak apa and let their cats loose.
We had this cats problem in the neighbourhood, until someone just simply say and scare the owners.  Then immediately we don't see many cats roaming around freely.

biggrin.gif
*
Actually I doesn't matter if the cat roam around my area.

Just don't poo on my area will do.

I piss off when the new neighbour just let the cat poo anywhere. Scoop up and throw back to their compound. True enough. After that the cat no more coming to my area to poo.
