I don't think the shape of a DSLR makes it handle well enough as a video cam.... I had observed professional videographers hand-held their video cams... and they definitely do not hold it anything like a dslr... Of course, we are not talking about putting the video cam on a tripod lah... that is a different story.

If we need to record HD vid.. Just buy SONY camcoder lor..
a700 + sony camcoder = D90 price vise. sony camcoder definitely > D90 video performance vise. a700 and D90 pic quality and ISO would be almost the same value vise and performance vise, a700 + cam still the best... however today people just want to integrate everything.. and they value that as something that worth to have.. HD and DSLR just like handphone and camera mah. if a handphone got latest 8MP + vid recording will still lose to a 6MP digital camera.. that mean if we try to integrate everything into 1 piece.. we would not (mostly) get the performance we wanted and also sacrificing the cost.. try to do 2 things at the same time = bad p/s: tis is juz a logical thinking of mine. The D90:
- can change lenses - has a shallow DOF The HD camcorder: - has a deep DOF (like a digicam) - has a powerful bright zoom (10x zoom, constant F1.8 or F1.6!) - has much more controls for recording video - has motorized zoom (if you try to turn a zoom lens ring, you will introduce wobble) If I was a filmmaker, I would love the shallow DOF of the D90, but hate the rolling shutter wobbly jelly image. My friend skipped the D90: http://guber.terapad.com/index.cfm?fa=cont...82598&from=list There ARE, of course, motorized zoom lenses for SLRs - the Minolta xi series was such. It was slow and funny to use for SLRs... but put the same lens on a camcorder, and it will make sense! |

QUOTE(albnok @ Feb 19 2009, 09:32 AM) The D90: Dslr video is virtually a half realized concept,it's nice to have but not practical as video cam replacement.- can change lenses - has a shallow DOF The HD camcorder: - has a deep DOF (like a digicam) - has a powerful bright zoom (10x zoom, constant F1.8 or F1.6!) - has much more controls for recording video - has motorized zoom (if you try to turn a zoom lens ring, you will introduce wobble) If I was a filmmaker, I would love the shallow DOF of the D90, but hate the rolling shutter wobbly jelly image. Pros: 01. Resolution is on par with a hd handycam based on d90 sample. 02. Giving you a pseudo film look because of shallow DOF. 03. You can achieve the nikon colour on your video. Cons: 01. Fast handheld shot is a goner. 02. Limited recording duration. 03. Focusing nightmare for tracking/moving shot. 04. Eventhough can change lens, making it impossible to use long zoom due to camera shake unless static on tripod. 05. Mono audio. 06. Body ergonomics and handling is not suitable for video. It's a case not small enough and not solid. In order to fully unleash the full potential of SLR lenses, you need a follow focus systems which you effectively control the focussing manually. But the body is just too unstable to implement such system and hampered by the wobbly jelly effect. I think the only DSLR at the moment that can double up as video cam is the RED Scarlett which is targeted at the professional filmmakers. |

sony rumors i got from internet.
Rumor: Sony Says Summer Release: According to PDN, there will be no Sony Alpha released prior to, or during PMA. From PDN: A spokesperson for Sony said today that the company will not have any "Alpha" DSLR announcements prior to or during the PMA show in Las Vegas in early March. The spokesperson, Linda Barger who handles Sony's digital cameras and accessories, told PDN that the company will concentrate on new consumer point-and-shoot models and camera accessories at PMA, some of which will be pro-oriented. According to Barger, Sony would be "following up with digital SLRs," this summer. source : PDN |
