There are games like that.
Virtua Tennis 3 states it only supports 1080p.....
But by right you can play it on 1080i, 720p, and 480p fine.

QUOTE(Neo_Y @ Mar 26 2009, 08:27 PM) Hi guys, I'm looking for a clarification, hope someone here can able to help me out. Very normal. My situation was, every time when I press quit game (specifically, Resident Evil 5) and of course it will return back to the user interface, my PS3 start spinning the disc very fast until I can hear it clearly (the disc is still inside the machine). By the way, while I rejected the disc, it comes back to the normal. Playing the game is just fine, no sound at all. So, what's going on? Why the machine want to spin the disc while I'm not actually access it? There are quite a number of games doing this, MGS4, RE5, GTA4, and Uncharted are of a few that I remember right now. There are a couple of reasons to this, but the main reason being that the BD-drive spins the disc to play the mini-clip when you start the game. Strange I know because how much is there to read a disc just to play a clip. Theres a couple of other rather technical reasons, but this is one of the easier ones to understand. Finally, it isn't harmful to your PS3. Don't be so skeptical. |

The PS3 is *constantly* playing the small clip.
There are some unknown factors that I'm not too sure about, so I'd rather not bring it up. |

Only worth it if you have a 7.1 setup or more.
5.1 wise, while sound distortions may be less apparent(if there is any that is), definitely not worth the money and hassle. Stick to DD and DTS. |

QUOTE(maskedchan @ Mar 27 2009, 08:55 AM) i am using 5.1 i hear the different between DD/DTS with DTS HD/TruHD maybe you should try too.. definitely worth the money...if you play game and watch BD too.. if just play game only..dont bother about the DTS HD/TruHD Not to say theres no difference, just that I feel a 7.1 or more setup makes full use of DTS HD. 5.1 is still all nice and well with DD and DTS though. |

QUOTE(wolfx @ Mar 27 2009, 12:11 PM) And another question: I noticed not all games support 1080p. I played abit of Valkyria Chronicles (it says 720p on the box) and RE 5 and wasn't impressed by a few things: 1) Its a cel-shaded game, AA aren't usually applied in cel-shaded games. More over, PS3 uses quincux AA instead of multi-sampling AA, jaggys are bound to appear when its stretch onto a 1080p screen. More over, you are sitting not more than 3 feet away from your monitor I assume.1.) VC: Some lines on are jagged, Anti-aliasing looks bad. Is this normal in the game or is it because of the game upscaling it to my monitor? (1080p) 2.) RE5: Images aren't the sharpest i've seen. Due to upscaling? Or am i just too used to PC 1080p gaming? Also during the starting cinematics where zombies were running around, i saw some split second "after-images". Refresh rate problem? 3.) Wanted: Weapons of Fate Demo: The game just looks bad.....maybe its the game itself? Perhaps bad HDMI cable? What you guys think? 2) Upscaling is the big part of it, RE5 on the PS3 has some pretty dismal low-res textures. Its the way the games is made. As for the "ghosting" a.k.a after-images, its your monitor. 3) The actual resolution of Wanted is only 1024x576, which isn't even 720p. Its upscaled through software to 720p and then it has to upscale using your TV to 1080p. Just imagine how much resolution loss is there. Nothing to do with a bad HDMI cable, because if it is you would get juttery lines over your screen already. |

QUOTE(wolfx @ Mar 27 2009, 01:32 PM) Hmmm...thanks for the answers. Very informative. You should also know that many games don't go into its default 720p when you leave 1080p checked under your PS3 settings(unless you have both on). The game will simply output at 480p/576p, which obviously would look horrendous on a 1080p screen. So about problems caused by up-scaling, will it help if I forced the PS3 to use 720p instead of 1080p in the video settings? As to your question, no it wouldn't do a difference. Blurry textures can't be avoided, its just the way it is. QUOTE(chriscym @ Mar 28 2009, 03:10 AM) just curious, anyone here bought any game from PSN? Can I use my credit card or there is a prepaid card to be used? Info is on first page if you even bothered to do do a little bit of research.Btw I am looking to buy the Flower game. Anyone tried it? QUOTE(iAero @ Mar 28 2009, 02:28 PM) I need help before I purchase the PS3. QUOTE(kytan @ Mar 29 2009, 05:53 PM) Fellow PS owners. I have a big problem with my PS3 80GB. Please find below a description of it: 1) This is something I've experienced a couple of weeks ago. The reason why this happened is because "somehow" your controller doesn't come on as player 1 anymore, but instead player 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7. You CANNOT turn on your PS3 if the controller isn't in player 1. How this happened, there are various reasons but one of them is improper shutdown/restarts.1. When I pressed to PS button on the controller (battery fully charged), PS3 does not turn on. 4 lights on controller blinking. Connect to USB and pressed PS button, does not turn on. 4 lights blinking. Connect controller to USB, press power button on PS3, boots up and ask to press PS button. Can connect. Disconnect USB no problem. But when turn off and turn on again with pressing PS button, problem repeats. Suspect problem with bluetooth. Pattern is the PS3 can only be turned on by the power button, controller needs to be paired everytime. 2. Cannot connect to internet. Scan for my Wi-Fi access point, cannot detect. Detect other wireless devices, cannot detect. Connect using LAN cable, cannot connect. I don't know, but it feels like the network/wireless module is fried. Any opinions? Anyone have such problem before? - What I did was completely switch off my PS3. - Then connect my DS3 to my PS3 via a USB cable. - Then after that, I turn on my PS3 with the power button and then turn on my other SIXAXIS controller. - Then I set the SIXAXIS controller to player 2. - After that I turn on my DS3, note that its still connected to the PS3 via the USB cable. - After turning on, my DS3 is in player 1 automatically. I turned off my PS3 with the DS3 after that. Then turn it back on again via the power button and turn on the DS3 first. Problem fixed. This fix most definitely needs 2 controllers though, as you need to trick the PS3 back into thinking you have a player 1 controller turning it on. 2) If the green light infront of your PS3 is still blinking, it isn't fried. Is it still blinking then? |

There is an RE5 PS3 bundle if you aren't aware of it......
The bundles really aren't worth while really, atleast for PS3. Simply because those bundles are imported, they get taxed and because our all-mighty currency is so poor you'd have to pay so much for the bundle. Even the current bundled MY PS3 sets are stupid. NGS + PS3 = RM1699, PS3 alone is RM1599. The thing is, NGS is RM110 new. So you're effectively saving only... RM10. Whats more, you could get NGS cheaper 2nd hand anyways. My suggestion, go to a reputable game store and pick up an MY set PS3. Which is only RM1499-RM1559 at the moment. Then pick up the games you want. |

Didn't Yahoo just changed the way you can type on the text editor? As in, its flash based now instead of XML last time. I don't think the PS3 web browser can type on flash-based text editors.

There 2 types seal for PS3 titles.
1 with the PLAYSTATION 3 strip at the bottom. 1 with no strip at the bottom. However, you have to take note that the plastic wrapper are wrapped tightly(which can only be sealed by machines and not human hands). If not, that means they are opened, re-sealed and being sold again. All R1 packaging has the PLAYSTATION 3 seal on the bottom, this is a must. SCEA policy, no way out of it. R2(EU and Jap) and R3 sometimes doesn't have the PLAYSTATION 3 seal on them, but this instance is rather rare. Most games have it. So, take note. Are they sealed tightly then?
There was a commotion behind the scenes back then when a few producers decided not to use the PLAYSTATION 3 seal because of royalty fees on their game packaging. Can't really remember what game it was though.... Konami games have the seal on them, I've sold alot of MGS4, PES and Silent Hill games and each of them had the seal on them. I'm sure of it. |

QUOTE(snipersnake @ Apr 19 2009, 02:45 PM) bwetul. sometimes, if got sales, you can even find a title under $25 a pop. HAZE was around #35.. lol But no sales, $99 pon ada for a R3 game Added on April 19, 2009, 4:34 pmerm.. i noticed, when I bout my ps3.,..I cant hear any sounds, means the fan was so quiet. Onmly when I popped GTA4, the fan kicks in overdrive mode, a bit loud, maybe telling me to stop playing and have a life. Usually GTA4.Given by the intensity of it, I understand. But after the latest update, even MGS4 also will result in the fan going nuclear. I read a few forums, some of them had a theory where Sony added a lot of functions on the latest firmwares for PS3, this stresses the PS3 and forcing itself to be cool always. Anybody having the same issue as I am? Nothing serious but the sound really turns my gaming apetite off. QUOTE(Mgsrulz @ Apr 19 2009, 05:27 PM) same here. Rather than just more features taking a toll on XMB-SPU of the Cell, try opening up your PS3 and behold the amount of dust it has inside. Dust build ups just clogs the amount of trapped heat in the PS3. The fan is automated to run at full-speed when theres alot of bottlenecked heat on the bottom side of the console(which means where the Cell and RSX is.the minute i jack into MGO,the fan suddenly BUZZZZZZes have to switch on the aircond to cool it down I didn't experience any high speed fan in GTA4 or MGS4 playing in a fan room and in the afternoon after the new firmware updates. Although I do get my fan running at full speed when playing in an exceptionally hot afternoon though, where my room reaches a temp of 26c and above! |

Combination?
Uhm... the only sure-fire way to clean your PS3 thoroughly is open it up and clean it with an air-pressured can. If you are thinking that the full-fan speed trick cleans your PS3, think again. It does nothing. The difference between Philips ambilight and Sony Bravia's.... err, whatever they have. |

Its just a fail-safe feature for the fan to work.
For technicians usually to check if the PSU is still working or not. |
