QUOTE(slk5538 @ Sep 24 2009, 07:58 AM) Mind to share where you got the info you quoted? oh ya, I guess you're right, sorry my wrong info. Yes, I knew that Pana more focus on Plasma while Samsung focus in LCD TV. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Panasonic is the main plasma manufacturer at the moment and had invested heavily on the R&D of plasma technology, and others are focusing on LCD, including Samsung. What do you mean by quality of Samsung Plasma? the built quality or PQ? In terms of PQ, Samsung Plasma are not well known for it, IMO, it is even behind its Korean competitor, LG. At least LG had produced a plasma series that received tons of praises, the PG60 in the North America market. (bear in mind though, the NA PG60 is different from the PG60 found locally). Samsung on the other hand, produces good LCD TV. Samsung not in LCD? Samsung has been producing LCD TV for years and is one of the primary player. They even claimed to be the No. 1 LCD TV producer globally in terms of volume sometime ago. Again, correct me if I am wrong, it seems to me that you have got the facts all mixed up QUOTE(choontoy @ Sep 24 2009, 08:05 AM) I guess old Samsung's plasma is not good as current Pana Plasma, right?Dear all, but recently, Samsung's spec plasma look like better than Pana....haha...but not sure about PQ yet. Need to check and view by own eyes.... |

QUOTE(iamsobloodysick @ Sep 25 2009, 12:10 PM) Risk of burn-in from gaming happens when you only play static games for hours. How about the games that has static menu at corner (like racing car meter...etc)? But I guess only can "really" burn-in for more than 24 hours static display.....correct me if wrong.example of the static game? FYI, if you are in a dark surrounding / dark room, when you enter the TV menu of setting and then exit all the menu, with background is black, you can see the menu "ghost image" is still there, my experience with plasma Is this normal with plasma? |

QUOTE(azbro @ Sep 25 2009, 03:29 PM) I dun think much of burn in for plasma, only image retention like those black bars at the top and bottom after watching those kinda movies. oh, but I tried for this before, not really work if you run few min for the white/black noise....but I try to run the any movie with ZOOM IN (fit the 16:9 area) for few min, then directly solve after few min, no need OFF & ON back TV....hehe.....What I do is remove the aerial connection and let my Panny Plasma display white noise for a few minutes before turning it off...kinda solve all problems so far. oh, what is IR (image retention) means?.....any picture to view? |

QUOTE(azbro @ Sep 25 2009, 03:47 PM) I cannot use the Zoom features cause if I do that then I will sit down again to watch TV and never go to sleep I see, the reminder alarm to sleep My mind is oledi set...White Noise means time to sleep The only image retention i experience is the top and bottom bars. Well, I also have image retention for the top and bottom black bar, so for those are not 16:9 movies, I will "move" the picture of movie go down to the bottom line of tv OR "move" up to the top line, so that at least my bottom and top line still has movie covered (not black bar). Maybe 1st movie I put it at bottom side, and then maybe after 1 hours or 2nd movie I will "move" it to top side. Just try to make it balance Since most of the movies, about 9.5/10 movies are not in 16:9, so that I just manually try to cover the top and bottom black bar by "move" the movie to top or bottom line. Because my plasma just connected to my laptop only, no TV show |

QUOTE(slk5538 @ Sep 26 2009, 08:16 AM) I think this is normal to plasma. This is what we call image retention, and it varies between the make of plasma. Panasonic's plasma has less obvious IR if compare to the korean brand from my observation. oh, your TV drama series got the channel logo there? consider still image...haha...just to confirm, anyway, this is a good suggestions, by the way, I just leave it play with ZOOM IN (cover all area 16:9) for few min, then IR solved..... Added on September 26, 2009, 8:31 am Technically, black bars are not going to cause burn in, but if you watch movies with letter box format for very long hours, it cause the cells at the black bars area to age slower then those cells in the pictures part. After long hours of use, and when you swich to full screen images, you can actually see the difference in colour of the pcitures between the top / bottom of the tv and the other part. Theorithically, this effect can be permanent. Correct me if I am wrong. Since most movies are in 2.35:1 format, what I do is keep a collection of TV drama series in hi-def (720p) format, such as the CSI, CSI:Miami series (that i truly enjoy). These dramas has aspect ratio of 16:9. I play an episode or two of these dramas after a few hours of movies in 2.35:1 format. Don't have to play them on the same day, you can turn off or TV and watch the series days later. I found this effective in getting rid of the colour differentiation at the bar areas of my plasma. I hope this trick can help. QUOTE(TomatomanzSeedlezz @ Sep 26 2009, 03:07 PM) Ok, what i gather here.. the cons and pros :- Correction, in long period plasma turn ON, the power consumption is slightly lower than LCD TV...hehe...this is what I get the info from the Pana's catalogue. Now I enjoy with my plasma about 5 months, so far really saticfy with it especially the natural color/image and wide angle view (all angle still same brightness/color).... Plasma pros : no lag/ghosting issues, wide viewing angles, slightly natural colors, most have tempered screen glass for durability. cons : burn-in, image-retention, slightly more power-consumption. LCD pros : slightly less power-consumption, no burn-in, no image-retention. cons : lag/ghosting issue but hardly noticable(?), too much contrast lead to picture quality doesn't look natural(?), viewing angles not as good plasma(?), no extra protection for the screen. (Referring to most common lcd/plasma which its not 100Hz and above, or not Kuro and etc.). Anything i missed there?.. do correct me, if i list wrong there.. What i meant was, normally i watch movies its on "cinema ratio" mah. I watch abt the same amount of Astro and movies, thats why im worry abt the those burn-in and image-retention, esp. some PS3 gaming. Cheers QUOTE(ar188 @ Sep 26 2009, 03:32 PM) dunno about sammy panels latest models now, but the 3year old sammy 1024x768 plasma I had got IR but no burn in. tested it with 1-2 months continuous viewing astro on 4:3 mode.. (black bars on left/right side) Oh, even you switch OFF and then switch ON on the next day still can see the IR? is this because of old technology plasma panel? anyway, as long as it is not really burn-in, then it's safe when reset back to 16:9 mode, can see IR but after a few days all clear back to normal.... |

QUOTE(Lone*Wolf @ Sep 26 2009, 04:08 PM) One more Plasma Cons - More reflective panel. oh, I'm agree with this, but it's depends on which brand and model.... Anyway, dun worry so much about burn-ins or IR la. Technically, they still exist but in real life, just practise common sense lo. Like what most say, alternating the ratios helps. I normally will zoom in too sometimes when watching BDs, coz i also just like my pic larger If still really ma fan, get a LCD, good also what |

QUOTE(anfieldude @ Sep 30 2009, 06:43 PM) If u get ur greyscale and gamma right, u can enjoy 3D pop on BD movies that are not 3D. you mean change the greysacle / gamma from PC? can get 3D effect?...wonder how/where to change that greyscale/gamma level...hehe...got tips ke?The technology for the current 3D is just not there yet. The fact that u use REd/Cyan specs causes serious colour issues that deter the enjoyment of the movies. But 1stly, the 3D versions of the movies defer from the 2D versions to enable the 3D effect. Your mkvs are probably for the 2D portion of the movies so I doubt u can make that work! some mkv are 2D....some are 3D.....are they deferring too? Just wonder why got ppl are sharing 3D version, so that I just guess we can possible to enjoy the 3D effect at home |

QUOTE(EXPLICIT @ Sep 30 2009, 11:02 PM) I recently bought Journey to the Center of the Earth Blu-ray United States 2-D and Limited-Edition 3-D . Enclosed in the BD discs are 4 of the 3D glasses and it was really an enjoyable experience watching it. Make sure to watch it at night and switch off the light, the 3D effect is really amazing thruout the movie. Try it... Appreciate that if you could share the 3D glasses picture, how they look like? what color? Free 4pcs 3D glasses? http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Journey-to-t...ay-Review/1270/ |

QUOTE(fruitaleman @ Oct 2 2009, 01:03 PM) Hi there si fu-s =) sometimes is just the setting color/contrast on that TV and make sure they are using HD source + HDMI cable and if possible direct input (not passing splitter), then you only can make your own eyes decisions My dad is planning to get a new TV and his budget is around 4k +-500 like that. I've read the thread about the difference in plasma and LCD. However I went to seng heng the other day and I've seem some of the plasma there, the colour doesn't seem to be very nice compared to the LCDs. Or maybe its just those plasma that I saw wasn't very good o.O Anyway do you guys have any good TVs to recommend? Either plasma or LCD, at 42 or 47 inch, full hd. Also I saw two samsung TV, one with 100Hz and one without and to me the difference is huge. But I want to know is when watching normal Blu-ray and astro, will it make a difference? |
