The real i-VTEC activates on 5800RPM, and to keep it short, our normal i-VTEC is not those performance type but instead i-VTEC-E, E for economy, which has 2 cam lobes on intake side to alter between 12 valve and 16 valve operation, and switch over is at 2200 RPM... Its for fuel efficiency. VTC (Variable Timing Control) constantly varies the valve timing on intake side too...

QUOTE(sonyman @ Jun 23 2010, 09:34 PM)
hello, honda civic fans, i was visiting a honda showroom in bukit raja a few days ago, i came to learn that the i vtec technology is more of a power thing rather than a fuel saving thing, like the CVVT or the VVTi , does this mean that if you are a light footer, dont always go beyond 4000 rpm, or so you dont get to use or activate the i vtec is it?

i must say, comfort wise, honda is very much better than toyota, i tested the CR-V and was expecting some wow effect, but it was nothing more than a 4 wheel vehicle that rides tall. do you guys know of any honda showroom that allows the testdrive to drive out of the testing drive route, because i practically didnt try really felt how really was the CR-v performance. ...

Of course this is a civic thread, but i wanna ask some honda fans about their idea and 2 cents.

Hi sonyman, iVTEC means different things to different Honda engines. For example, on the K-series engines, there are full 3-stage VTEC types as well as "economy" VTEC types. The K-series and B-series preceding it, employ the conventional VTEC technology, where economy cams operate at moderate rpms, switching over only at higher rpms for high output. These engines come to life above 5k rpm, but are less torquey below it. The highest performing K-series engines are like that, such as the K20A and K24A on the Type R variants. Our local K-series engines on the Accord 2.4 and Civic 2.0 have been tweaked, without the high cams on the exhaust side. This has led to better torque low down, with outright performance being a tradeoff as compared to their higher-revving brethren with the "A" suffixes.

On the R-series however, it's a total reverse VTEC in a way. The R-series can be found on the CRV and Accord 2.0 (R20) while the Civic 1.8 uses the R18. How the R-series differs from normal VTEC engines, is that in normal operating modes, it is running on performance cams (meaning high cams in VTEC terminology). Once you reach a certain cruising speed, the economy cams take over. That is why the R-series has good low to mid range torque. In order to maintain driveability, a compromise had to be made on the size and duration of the high cams, hence these engines start to run out of breath after 5,500 rpm.

You can read more about the R18 here: http://asia.vtec.net/Engines/RiVTEC/index.html

And some general info on the K-series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_K_engine

I'm surveying for tinted, he have 3M and Llumar also I guess. Any recommendation?

No... Don't bother with i-VTEC or not... We are economical K20Z2 engine, not K20A... K20Z2 i-VTEC mechanism switches between 12 valves/16 valves, at 2200 RPM...

And bro nles... I believe I can get a good deal for V-kool and 3M at a very much lower price... Although I recommend 3M... All good windows film blocks smart tag... But then if V-kool, then you can get very nice sewed coil mat, and can consider Ultra Glass Coating Neo at the same place... For that V-kool Elite, I can get around RM1900 smile.gif

All together going to cost RM3k lolx. 3M definitely block the usage of smarttag right, even house autogate? How much does 3M cost. Which 1 looks better on white civic?

Autogate no issues... I prefer 3M for their CR70 and CR60... Which both have 99.7% block, the only difference is 70 brighter while darker... Go for CR60 on Taffeta White...

Normal price RM1900, special price RM1600.

Ultra Glass Coating Neo RM1950 usually... But there I will get you RM1000 lolz...
