on d label supposed 2 contain d serial number,part number n firmware...if already took it out of d casing,should be easy 2 see...

just donlod from seagate website,seatool for windows...it will tell u d firmware revision

though im not certain it will work on undetected hdd...if it cant,u just have 2 look @ it manually

u should hear it from my side...i just started selling seagate HDDs n this prob come up.fortunately(i do hope so) i get direct from distro n all 7200.11 models are d newst model with newer firmware...but tht shouldnt keep anyone from being scared shitless...coz d bricked hdds comes from seagate so-called updated firmware....u update d firmware n poof,u got a metal brick,no saving can be done on tht.thts y they were many firmware revision in such short space ...d same firmware revision on such short space n after onli tht bricked episode does seagate release a usable firmware(still they are newer firmware after tht )

be sure tht u get d latest firmware should u wanna buy a seagate hdd,i know coz i sell them...n be sure 2 back-up regularly coz shit happens

just ask for d latest firmware like CC33.dunt go for SDxx or ADxx.u can still find them on most shops

its not d symptom...the problematic firmware will just render ur hdd undetectable into normal start-up.
try donlod hdd-health n seatool for windows,good measure 2 see d health of any hdd
i personally use system mechanic

yup,always back-up...its cheaper than paying for hdd recovery charges

before u do anything,check whether ur hdd is d affected ones
after tht can u upgrade its firmware
u dunt have to boot into windows to upgrade d firmware
spend some time reading a few pages in this thread n u can do it in no time

last time i check seagate website,its SD2B or sumthing.look like they still churning out firmware for those affected 7200.11 hdd
d newer 500GB 7200.12 hdd has onli 16MB cache.onli 750GB n 1TB has 32MB cache.

if u got 7200.11,replace it
if u planning to buy seagate,don't buy 7200.11
buy 7200.12
but my 1TB is acting up,a bit,a little...i hope

afaik,nope but ive rarely go to seagate forum now...but my os drive is 500GB 7200.12...bought early last year...been thru numerous formatting n reinstalling
