Then yours is the branded phones? Like Vodafon? I think those you have to debrand first to update with the latest SE updates. Or you have to wait for the provider to release the branded firmware update.

I've read through some of the Vodafone forums and there isn't much update from Vodafone with the new features and fixes the SE have for the C905.

finally made the decision to buy the phone.

Its a black AP one, built 08w53, from an established shop in Johore (since price only a RM20 extra compared to KL here). The seller also mentioned that the initial releases of C905 indeed had problems at the speaker.. but new versions seem to be ok already.

Just finished charging overnight, tonight will start the setting up! BTW, really appreciate SE’s contact export features, easily get back the complete contact lists

If your C905 is AP then there could be some problem of detecting the latest version as it is from a different region. You could wait till the region that your C905 is from to have the updated firmware then update. Or you could change the CDA to make SEUS detect the new firmware like what Mr. Green said.

There is no problems mentioned above for original C905 to be updated.

This the latest and major update which actually fixed a lot of issue and there is new features added.

Here you go. Found it easily using google.

http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=36503

There are risks to change the CDA. So the decision up to you. Have fun!

MOD - Not sure the link is legal or not. But do let me know if it is then I remove it. Thanks.

Is there other way to upgrade the software version instead of changing the CDA?

Um... Wait for the region to have the updated firmware. Or bring to SE service center/the shop you bought the AP and pay RM40-60 to update the firmware if not original.

They do have authorized SE service centers. Found this list:
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=1287

Anyway his C905 is Vodafone branded. Means it is using customized SE firmware. Usually they need to bring back to Vodafone for warranty not to SE.

Found an issue with the display of contact name:

I saved my contact in the format,
Surname(Last Name), Given name

e.g. Tan, Ah Meng

in the contact list I've set the names to be sorted by Last name, which everything is fine.

but in the calling screen and the call logs, the names are shown in a weird format
e.g. Meng Tan, Ah

do you guys have this problem? anyway to configure this?

Don't have such problem in my C905. All my contacts are saved as Jane Doe Foo See or Sor Chai Ming will display the same thing in the contacts and while calling.

You got put the comma (,) in the names?

See this reply in the Vodafone forum dated 3rd of February 2009:

QUOTE
Hi roadrunner32000,

I completely understand your frustration over this, but it's likely there's been such a delay because we want to make sure that the update genuinely does fix all of the issues. There'd be no value in us rushing an update out which didn't fix everything either- ultimately we want all of our customers to be happy, and so as soon as there's something we can do to enhance the experience you're getting, we'll do it.

As there's nothing more we can add to this thread at present I'm going to close it. If there's valuable information to be given to you all once the firmware is available, we'll reopen threads like this, or bump them with a link to one central thread with all of the useful information in them.

Thanks,

Tom

Also in here can see that the Vodafone C905 still have the earpiece and other problems:

yes i admit im small kid, that's y i said in my post, IM NOT A WORKING ADULT!. cant u just read?
frankly speaking, he's much kind than u. although he didn't tell me the pros and cons, but at least he reply me asking me to buy an ori set better than ap set. as lots of ppl complain here and there bout ap set(s).
in a nutshell, it's better to be quiet, in other words, SHUT UP, than replying ppl's post.

p/s - this might be the last post im replying to u. it's just waste of time replying ur post.  sweat.gif  yawn.gif

honestly speaking, he's right. everything you want to know - our praises and our complaints of this phone - will be known if you read from the first post.

I dont recall the C905 (or any sony ericsson phone for that matter) having a First Name and Last Name field. As far as I know there's only one field for name. Nokia has that first name, last name thingy tho unsure.gif

For my first name last name things, its a bit panjang lebar but I'll try to summarise it

1. Due to synchronising with Outlook (which has last and first name), I typically register my friend list (e.g. Tan Ah Meng) as
Last Name: Tan
First Name: Ah Meng
2. so when first time synch with my ex-K810i, the name appeared as Tan, Ah Meng
3. Using Advanced Options > Sort Order under Contact, K810i correctly recognises Tan as last name, and the names are sorted as Tan, Ah Meng, Tan, Brandon etc.
If not, the name are sorted by First name, so I get Ah Meng Tan, Brandon Tan etc, which I don't like (prefer to sort by surnames)
4. in K810i, after doing the Sort Order settings, even in the calling menu and call logs, everything is fine

5. When moving to C905, I backup and restored the contact list, and did the sort order setting. Everything is same as K810i except the call log and dialing screen.

case1. If I set the Sort Order to the default First Name, Last Name, the contact will show as Ah Meng Tan, call log and dialing screen ok

case2. If I set the Sort Order to Last Name, First Name, the contact will show as , Tan, Ah Meng, , but the call log and dialing screen will show
Meng Tan, Ah,

Of course I can set the name as Tan Ah Meng without comma in both case1 and case2, but this will case the First Name and Last Name field in outlook to confuse

so basically this is the dilemma I'm facing. Tonight will test out the synch again when getting back home.

i saved my contacts in my old K750 in such format: Tan Ah Meng --> Ah Meng, Tan
So, when i move my contacts to C905, it turned out to be Tan Ah Meng automatically. no commas whatsoever.
In contacts, dialing, and ringing all the same - Tan Ah Meng.

Im not sure if that's what you want. But its works for me. =D and its tidy too.
