Just found this tered, my 3-year-old maltese - Babie

[attachmentid=2856708]

By the way, may I know any of the Maltese lovers here has problem with your dogs' skin? My dog suffers from fur lost, quite severe actually, on off for about a year already. Saw many vets, also not improving. Currently on long term low dose steroids..your advice is very much appreciated.
*
Have you tried to bath her with malasep shampoo? Did your vet prescribe you with any antibiotics before? One of my girl was having this kind of 'shedding' I would say cause she basically shed (which is abnormal for maltese) to the point she has no more fur left on her body and with constant scratching which make it worst. Bring her to see my 2 vets and finally with advice and antibiotic given by my second vet her condition improved a lot and now she's back to her usual self again smile.gif

Here is her recent photo smile.gif

normally we would strongly advice n recommend people to get their pets from responsible and reputable breeders.... petshops (whether physical shop or online shops selling multiple breeds of dogs) are not good sources as we dont know where their supply is from.... if u read The Star, few days ago you would have noticed that this issue was covered....

for a good and healthy pup from a responsible and reputable breeder usually within the range of 1.8-2k for those without champion parents, above 2k and can go up till 3.5-4k for those pups with Champion parents (note, its not just lineage but parents themselves).... the difference with the term "lineage" and "parents" is that lineage can mean anywhere from parents till great grand parents....

of course there is also the factor of locally bred and the popular "taiwan bred aka mini".... basically, local bred are known to have larger size which normally is off standards, taiwan bred normally are within AKC written standard sizes but people are normally fooled into thinking its "mini" due to comparison with local breds....

people i know who have maltese get from White Palace, Frederf Maltese (fred_twh) or Kinzonu.... these 3 you can find in lowyat itself, while Frederf and Kinzonu have FB accounts.... another breeder you can seek via FB is Hollybelle.... Frederf, Kinzonu and Hollybelle are dog show handlers however they might have pet quality puppies from time to time....

responsible breeders are not afraid to show you their house where they keep their dogs, how are the living conditions of their pets.... you can feel free to ask them any questions regarding your pets regardless before or after purchasing because they want to make sure that their dogs are sold to good owners....

wish you well in your search of a wonderful maltese.... they are a great breed.... most importantly, getting from a responsible breeder gives you a safer assurance....

Thank you for recommending me, however I had stopped breeding for quite some time now. I believe Fred, Kinzonu and Hollybelle are great breeders. However, I do have Maltese up for adoption to good homes. I must stress that my intention is to allow more love and attention to my Maltese since I own many of them, so unless I found someone that can provide them MORE love and BETTER care then only I will consider, otherwise I'm more than happy to keep every one of them. If you are a first time dog owner, you wouldn't be considered. I would be very thankful if those dog owners I already know would recommend me a potential great adopter if they encounter any wink.gif

really have a serious problem. my maltese is abt 4 month old now and suffering from seperation anxiety. i give her enough space to run ard with a baby barrier to prevent her from dominating the whole house until she is potty trained. she also has a crate big enuf to sleep and turn ard. everytime i leave her she'll start barking non stop . the barking reduces if i am no longer downstairs (i leave her downstairs) no idea why. maybe cant smell my scent? .i give her plenty of chew toys including a kong but she doesnt seem to stop barking. what should i do? when can i bring her out of the area ? articles said that 'do not reward him/her if she barks inappropriately' but she'll keep barking and crying to let her go if she sees me/any of my family member downstairs? what do i doo? im afraid i will kacau the neighbours if this continues! i cant even groom her now because im afraid im rewarding her for her barking! i just got her for abt a week btw

UPDATE: i have already gotten her a kong with stuffed peanut butter and she LOVES it ! she doesnt bark unnecessarily anymore biggrin.gif

I think I stated quite clearly, since I own many dogs, I can't give full attention to everyone of them. If I can find a really good owner that can give full attention to one or two dogs, then the life would be much better. But as stated, my purpose is not to give them up, so I will only consider if the potential owner can provide a better prospect, else I have no problem keeping them.

why does my 4 months old female maltese stil pee everywher? she seems to pee in the pee pad correctly when i put her in the playpen near the kitchen? and when she has 'accidents' i'll clean it up with dettol and then vinegar+water. is it because the pee pad is too far away? must i put it in the living room?

I would suggest you to gradually increase the roaming space. Since you started with playpen, you can purchase a few more to extend the space. If you find her ok, then extend more or perhaps limit her excess to the whole kitchen. Until you find her doing well with the whole kitchen, you may consider letting her roam free.

But of corse, there is no such thing as 100% success, we should be more understanding if there are accidents every now and then.

Don't forget to praise her a loooooot whenever she pee on pad to encourage her!

What I did to my maltese is shifting my pee pan bit by bit each day, until to the place you want, for me I put in kitchen(shifted from living room to kitchen in 2 weeks). Everytime your maltese has an accident, quickly put her in the pee pan(within 1-2 minutes after they pee), and repeat this every time she has accident. If she did it correctly, praise them with your treat fast(with 1 minutes) to do positive reinforcement.

Hope it works for you. smile.gif

I'm sorry to say this but you should have read about all these and everything regarding pregnancy and whelping before you have even begun to mate her....

But what is done is done, i would suggest you search the net,or personally pm some of the maltese breeders for advice.... Or seek help from your trusted vet (which you should already have by now to help with the whelping in case any emergency crop up)

in the future, please breed more responsibly for the sake of your furkid....

1) Try to get nearest vet contact, preferably those that do emergency calls. Where do u stay btw? (just in case pups got stuck and u need to do c-sec)
2) Cut her hair short to prevent tangle and minimize fur gets dirty.
3) Prepare a secure, safe place for her to deliver (bed/box etc, prepare some newspaper/old cloth)
4) Best for u to get someone with experience to be with u when on the day itself.
5) Prepare dog milk powder just in case your dog has no/lil milk to feed the pup. Also, feed your dog with high protein food during and after pregnancy.

Good luck!

there are many reasons as to why your girl is having so much tear stain, especially at this age.... the important thing is to find out the cause.... it could be she is teething, or she has seperation anxiety when left alone at home, or the short fur around the face is irritating her eyes, or red yeast infection or just plain genetic (this cannot be helped la)....

do u clean the eye area everyday? i heard that some clean their furkid's eye area every few hrs.... or u can try to let her eat health n shine, a product to counter red yeast problem which causes the tear stain....

I think she could be teething because she doesnt have seperation anxiety when shes left alone. does teething cause tear stains? i keep her hair short and i do clean her tears very often. What is health and shine? anyone tried angel eyes or eye envy before?

Health n shine is a powder form of medicine for helping to control tear stains, but same with other tear stain control products, the owner still need to clean the eye area n solve the root problem.... When puppies are teething, it causes them discomfort, thats why they tear....
