Really? Altec Lansing is a goner now? Wow. I am still using my Altec Lansing VS4121 - the sound quality is nothing short of extraordinary. I've used Sonic Gear and Edifier, disliked both. I was thinking of getting a 5.1 surround system but kinda difficult to get a 'good' one.

Legendary MX5021. You can try asking around Jalan Pasar's electronic shops (lots of them). Other than that, I could also try repairing it. Just PM me if interested. |

Thanks. PM received.QUOTE(cyberkid @ Sep 11 2012, 03:43 PM) Crappy Altec lansing nowadays. When my MX5021 busted, I went directly to a Yamaha RX-371 AVR setup. Seeing that half decent setup already costing 1k thereabouts, the 5.1 setup with a dedicated AVR setup (albeit a lower end one) for a little more was a more sound investment (mind the pun).No other resorts but to go for AE, Harman/Kardon |

all the good old brands in 90s like Altec Lansing(dunno being changed hands for how many times since 2000), Cambridge soundworks (bought by Creative, which itself is almost a dead brand now), Boston Acoustics (no longer making multimedia products), Labtec (bought by Logitech) are all goner now.. gone are the good old days where companies pay attention to sound reproduction more than designs and profits..

Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post, but I'm currently using Altec Lansing's MX5021. However, recently, I hear crackling sounds every now and then from the left side of the speakers, even when no music source is plugged to the speakers (i.e. switched on, but not fed with any music source).
I have done some simple troubleshooting myself, and found that the problem lies not with the speaker, but with the left speaker's port on the woofer. May I know if anyone knows any shop/place that repairs pc speakers around PJ or Subang area? Thanks a lot! |
