QUOTE(alongeasy @ Jul 16 2012, 12:08 PM) edifier??? better stick to altec lansing if u dont have any good sound card. My altec lansing perform better than my newer edifer. Edifier is over hyped. Not impressed.

I vote for Edifier coz i owned 2 of them (sold already, now using RM 40 speaker). Quality was good for RM 250 & RM 150 tag price.
BTW, Altec Lansing should be quit good quality with some more RM juice.
All the list are for non-expensive speaker, big brand like Seinheiser will beat all of them.

Altec Lansing ACS45.1 .... still using it after 10 years, and running strong. Had a few other 2.1 speakers along the way (about the same price range), but cannot beat this one. Although the volume/power button is somewhat glitchy/broken already. It just suit my ears.
Anybody can recommend a newer Altec Lansing that reproduces the same kind of sound?

I dont know, not really into sound. So far I only have 2 set speaker. Both 2.1 1st Cap ayam (Hyundai) But the sound quite well. All speaker "kulit" made from wood 2nd Altec Lansing ACS 33 Hmm no comment, since it very old, sound not that good but still ok for gaming~

Been looking to get some nice 5.1 surround speakers, but all I'm seeing are 2.1, some more expensive than others thanks to elaborate designs but still not 5.1. Care to recommend me a few? I have been using Altec Lansing for years. This brand and my stock Dell speakers, that's all. I've used Edifier before... didn't like it. The only one I've found so far are Logitech brand... http://www.logitech.com/en-my/speakers-aud...er=f796&sort=s4Logitech Z506 = RM369 Logitech Z906 = RM1299 (THX Certified) And they're relatively new new-ish models (June 2011). Main purpose of speakers - gaming - movies - music This post has been edited by defaultname365: Sep 6 2012, 10:30 AM

While the Z906 is good, honestly it is a bad deal at RM1299. Especially when you can still find a Z5500 which is its predecessor and cost only RM1100-RM1200 these days.
I'm not going to bore you with the specifics, but the Z5500 trounces the Z906 inside and out. The bass is so much deeper, the satelites are amazing for its size, and the power output of the Z5500 is true to its specs unlike the Z906 just simply being rated at its power output.
It's like how the Z623 is a great 2.1 speaker, but its predecessor Z2300 is still in a league of its own.
Reason? Cutting cost.
