wow very interesting. i'm thinking of purchasing folding bike cos my workplace is 7kms away (thats 2 way already), and probably sell my very much loved 09 honda wave (just had 8000 mileage cos of the same reasons). so that i get my needed exercise. and during off days, maybe can buy and attach a kid seat so my 2.5 yr old can be a passenger just biking along nearby lake park?
is that a good move? This post has been edited by jtdc: Apr 8 2012, 07:28 PM |

If you want to cycle to work better get a full size bike. That way you can also attach a baby seat. is that a good move? Folding bikes are more towards commuting where you will need a bus/train to board or the rare occasion when you don't want to buy a hundred dollars of bike rack. Plus I don't think folding can fit a baby seat because the position of the tube is too low. You'll need a child's seat trailer for that. Added on April 8, 2012, 8:20 pm QUOTE(yunalesca @ Apr 7 2012, 05:14 PM) Bought Raleigh Ugo (RM820) last week and rode around. Tried to board Star LRT, no problem. In fact, the security were pleasant and curious wanted to know more about the bike. Was that during weekend or weakdays, peak hours? Then, also tried to board MetroBus, no problem too. So far, quite happy with the bike This post has been edited by NasiLemakMan: Apr 8 2012, 08:20 PM |

QUOTE(NasiLemakMan @ Apr 8 2012, 08:16 PM) really? so i shouldn't be looking at folding bikes? probably the reason why i want folding bike is1. it can be folded so i can bring it upstairs for keeping (place i stay is at 3 levels up need to climb 6 flights of stairs) 2. when it has problems i can put inside my small car to bring to some bike shop for maintenance 3. at the time i will be leaving malaysia (dunno when) it can be shipped out with less cost as smaller/lighter (less hassle of reselling/losing value) so is there no baby/toddler seat compatible with folding bike? i've seen some sellings of folding bike but they are full size folding mountain bikes. dunno if that makes sense with my requirements. i've used mountain bike before i got my motorcycle, got it from carrefour. since i had no motorcycle/car yet that time, everytime it gets problem its much effort to fix (i have no tools yet). no bike repair near cyberjaya. and its kinda heavy and heavy to pedal. probably the reason why its sub RM400 only. i ended up wanting a motorcycle and sold the bike. now i'm thinking i wanna go back to biking, mainly for exercise and going bike with my toddler. But the full size ones are usually more expensive at min RM2000 compared with small wheeler which usually comes with better parts at the price1. it can be folded so i can bring it upstairs for keeping (place i stay is at 3 levels up need to climb 6 flights of stairs) 2. when it has problems i can put inside my small car to bring to some bike shop for maintenance 3. at the time i will be leaving malaysia (dunno when) it can be shipped out with less cost as smaller/lighter (less hassle of reselling/losing value) so is there no baby/toddler seat compatible with folding bike? i've seen some sellings of folding bike but they are full size folding mountain bikes. dunno if that makes sense with my requirements. i've used mountain bike before i got my motorcycle, got it from carrefour. since i had no motorcycle/car yet that time, everytime it gets problem its much effort to fix (i have no tools yet). no bike repair near cyberjaya. and its kinda heavy and heavy to pedal. probably the reason why its sub RM400 only. i ended up wanting a motorcycle and sold it. now i'm thinking i wanna go back to biking, mainly for exercise and going bike with my toddler. 2. There are car bike racks you can buy for couple of hundreds bucks. Sold in many bike shops. 3. From what I gather, overseas bikes are more cheaper plus more selections compared to Malaysia. If want to ship to overseas remember the light folding bikes are more expensive (above RM6000) plus weights at 6-9 kg compared to the middle or lower class of bikes at 11-15 kg. All here are small wheeled of course the full size would be more heavy. In the end would be easier to buy new overseas. Since you are concerned about maintenance, get a singlespeed of fixed gear type of bicycle plus you'll get a good workout. |

QUOTE(jtdc @ Apr 8 2012, 11:11 PM) actually, this ibert child seat is quite suitable for folding bicycles, it depends on the type of folding bike that you have, it clamps to the stem/ handle bar post, but most folding bike the handle bar is directly on top of the post, so u have to mount this seat lower, like this guy did on his brompton, http://brommieskywalker.blogspot.com/2011/...n-brompton.html » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « also if the post is tapered like the dahon speed p8, it can't be clamped securely on it. other options http://brommieskywalker.blogspot.com/2011/...d-seat-for.html Rodalink has a shop in putrajaya, u can fix ur bike there, there are bicycle shop in dengkil as well. Hi Guys,
Want to ask if anyone of know people that rides folding bikes to LRT stations and board the train with their bikes. Planning to get a 12.5" foldie to commute to work. Taman Melati - Bangsar LRT. After some quick googling, there seem to be a mixed response to it. Some bad ones are to the extent of the rider being man handled by security personnels. A news release by PRASARANA BHD does say that they encourage folding bikes on LRT on non-peak hours. But again its a grey area. What time exactly is the Peak hour? 7am? 8am? 5pm? 6pm? Anyone with experience or knows people who does this, hopefully can feedback to me on this matter. No point spending Rm1.5k on a foldie just to be denied entry to the LRT. |
