Hi Guys,

Want to ask if anyone of know people that rides folding bikes to LRT stations and board the train with their bikes. Planning to get a 12.5" foldie to commute to work.

Taman Melati - Bangsar LRT.

After some quick googling, there seem to be a mixed response to it. Some bad ones are to the extent of the rider being man handled by security personnels. A news release by PRASARANA BHD does say that they encourage folding bikes on LRT on non-peak hours. But again its a grey area. What time exactly is the Peak hour? 7am? 8am? 5pm? 6pm?

Anyone with experience or knows people who does this, hopefully can feedback to me on this matter. No point spending Rm1.5k on a foldie just to be denied entry to the LRT.

I went to GW bikes today. Friendly bunch of people over there.

I have my eye on the Dahon Broadwalk (Rm1299) Is that a good price? Anymore shops that i can look at more bikes around that price range?

Yeap, but i think that the boardwalk wheel size is ok. As long as it can fit into the carry bag for me to bring it on the LRT. My concern is that i'll reach the LRT usually at 7.15am which is considered peak hours. And leave at around 5pm-5.30pm from bangsar. Which is also consider peak.

EDIT: When one rides the carry me, they look like a circus bear

oh at 1st i wanted to get that . But then i realize, If i am going to fold it back sure bulky , i prefer to just sumbat the plastic cover and go... smile.gif

Same here. When coming out from LRT then have to spread out bag on the ground and fold it and people look at you funny also coz u just took your bike outta the bag. doh.gif

Low profile is good. biggrin.gif

ok i understand how it works now after watching the vid, there is a huge difference.  biggrin.gif

cycle to work in MV from which LRT??

the road leading to MV from and to bangsar ( jln maarof to MV ) is dangerous, a lot of accident happen there,
i use the road everyday to work for over 10 years , have seen many accidents and 1 death.

Dun scare me la. cry.gif

NO la i'm not taking bangsar. Most probable route is from Abdulah Hukum LRT station. Follow the rear road from to go into abdulah hukum flats, then cycle up to the road beside Garden Hotel, cross pedestrian walkway and the remaining way to office. about 2km i would say...

Edit: Here's the map of the route i'm taking. smile.gif

not scare u la,

i think u wana cycle along the river, then cross the bridge, use the pedestrian overhead to walk to MV, that should be fine kua.....

the road along the river at the abd hukim side, i think the traffic is a bit slow ,
but on the mv side the cars are very fast.
*
Yeap. I'm taking that road, but the mid valley side i guess i won't be affected as the only roads will be the boulevard road and the garden hotel road. There the cars are quite pedestrian friendly. Use the pedestrian bridge, climb up 1 flight of stairs only. then it comes out on the garden hotel lobby area i think. Cycle down, and pass byperodus on south boulevard and straight to my office on tower 51. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hopefully everything will be ok. unsure.gif unsure.gif

I'm picking up my bike next Monday. Getting slim tires on first. laugh.gif Excited also a bit. Some times like this la. Road too many cars scared kena bang by car, road not a lot of cars, scared kena rob by people. rclxub.gif

H2D u work in MV area also?

yep, it should be ok,
just be careful along the construction site by the river. the road is narrow, but i think traffic is slow.

i used to work in bangsar, so for over 10 years i round MV twice a day to work n back.
*
actually now that you mention, that day the cars there drove quite fast as well near the construction area. I'm lighting up my bike like a xmas tree with all the bling bling i can put on in broad day light. Hopefully they brake when they see me. Also worried about the new rempits around the area i saw when i was surveying that area. But i already bought a can of mace to be mounted on my bike just in case. sweat.gif
