really? so i shouldn't be looking at folding bikes? probably the reason why i want folding bike is
1. it can be folded so i can bring it upstairs for keeping (place i stay is at 3 levels up need to climb 6 flights of stairs)
2. when it has problems i can put inside my small car to bring to some bike shop for maintenance
3. at the time i will be leaving malaysia (dunno when) it can be shipped out with less cost as smaller/lighter (less hassle of reselling/losing value)
so is there no baby/toddler seat compatible with folding bike?
i've seen some sellings of folding bike but they are full size folding mountain bikes. dunno if that makes sense with my requirements. i've used mountain bike before i got my motorcycle, got it from carrefour. since i had no motorcycle/car yet that time, everytime it gets problem its much effort to fix (i have no tools yet). no bike repair near cyberjaya. and its kinda heavy and heavy to pedal. probably the reason why its sub RM400 only. i ended up wanting a motorcycle and sold it. now i'm thinking i wanna go back to biking, mainly for exercise and going bike with my toddler.
1. Ok, folding is the advantage here. But the full size ones are usually more expensive at min RM2000 compared with small wheeler which usually comes with better parts at the price
2. There are car bike racks you can buy for couple of hundreds bucks. Sold in many bike shops.
3. From what I gather, overseas bikes are more cheaper plus more selections compared to Malaysia. If want to ship to overseas remember the light folding bikes are more expensive (above RM6000) plus weights at 6-9 kg compared to the middle or lower class of bikes at 11-15 kg. All here are small wheeled of course the full size would be more heavy. In the end would be easier to buy new overseas.
Since you are concerned about maintenance, get a singlespeed of fixed gear type of bicycle plus you'll get a good workout.
