Some old news about our rumoured targets:

Van Bommel told to take it or leave it
QUOTE
January 13, 2009

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists the club will not offer Mark van Bommel an improved deal.

The 31-year-old, whose current deal expires in June, is still considering a 12-month extension he was offered just before Christmas.

But the Holland midfielder is expected to reject it after claiming he would prefer a longer-term arrangement.

Rummenigge, though, is adamant Bayern will not alter the offer, telling Bild: "There is from our side, neither something new nor something to change. The offer stands.

"Mark has up until the end of the month to decide whether he takes it or not.

"The ball is in his court."

So, I wonder if he will come over. Although Arsenal policy to offer one-year contract only for over 30 years old players, are there any exceptions for newcomers?. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Galliani: Girondins must pay up for Gourcuff
QUOTE
AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has warned Bordeaux fans they will not be seeing much more of Yoann Gourcuff unless their team stump up 15million euros.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation during his loan spell with Les Girondins and is being touted in France as the successor to Zinedine Zidane.

But Milan are in no hurry to offload their midfielder so Bordeaux will have to reach deep into their pockets if they want him to stay beyond the end of the season.

Galliani told French sports daily L'Equipe: "Yoann belongs to us. Cross your fingers that you'll get him back.

"If Bordeaux won't pay the right ransom of 15million euros, Yoann will return to us."

Galliani ruled out the possibility of a third party making a move for the player, stating he would spend next season "at Bordeaux or Milan, but not elsewhere".

And he believes Gourcuff would find more playing time in the Rossoneri midfield than previously should he choose to return.

Galliani said: "If he didn't play much between 2006 and 2008 it is because he has had to contend with monstrous competition, that is to say (Gennaro) Gattuso, (Massimo) Ambrosini, (Andrea) Pirlo, (Clarence) Seedorf and Kaka.

"Yoann is an excellent player, and is proving it with Bordeaux and the French national team. There will be space for him at Milan."

Yes, 15M for Gourcuff nod.gif

=================

oh ya, StarGhazzer asked if I could remove those unrelated flame-war posts.

BENDTNER IN A BIT OF BOTHER

QUOTE
ARSENE WENGER is fuming with Nicklas Bendtner even though the Dane grabbed a late winner against Bolton.
Arsenal boss Wenger was steaming after learning Bendtner gave Bolton the Gunners team three hours before kick-off on Saturday.

It is believed the striker spilled the beans to Bolton ace Fabrice Muamba, an old pal from the youth ranks.

An Arsenal insider said: “One of Bolton’s staff told Arsene after the game they knew their team well before the team sheets were handed in.

“When Arsene asked how that was possible the Bolton coach replied Bendtner told them.

“Goodness knows the trouble Nicklas would have been in if he hadn’t scored the winning goal.”

Hey i was just wondering whether there is any gathering for the next Arsenal versus Hull match? Let's hope we dun mess up this time. BTW do you really think we should pay top money for Arshavin? Because seriously, I think he is coming in as a replacement for Fabregas. What is going to happen to him when Fabregas comes back? U mean he is going to be satisfied being the backup for Fabregas? I always thought that we have a back up for Fabregas who is Denilson. Isn't a defensive midfielder and CD a priority now since we are losing matches due to inconfidence in the defensive side rather then in the attacking side?I really think that the positions that matters now are DM, CD and GK. But i cannot blame you guys for yearning for Arshavin because we do not have big money signings and you guys are yearning for Wenger to buy someone big just to show that he is stingy. I believe that he should do that but at the expense of improving the overall quality of the squad and not just for the sake of adding extra bodies. We are in an economic recession remember

premier league is gone. we even struggle to make the chmpions league spot.

fa cup would be a more reasonable target this season.

and yes, get that owl-faced arshavin. we need some creative minds on the pitch

It's just a dream...

The leader is Liverpool & we are 8 points behind them plus MU has 2 games in hand. If MU wins both games in hand, they would lead the table & we will be 9 points behind.

Don't forget Everton is trailing from behind with 3 points below Arsenal. This is pressuring Arsenal & they never been good when Arsenal is under pressure. Best example was end of last season when MU & Chelsea over took us in April

To be honest I have not been yearning for any signings and seriously I'm OK even if we do not sign anyone at all but at the same time regardless of what position would welcome quality additions into the team anytime of the day.

Arshavin will not be signed as a replacement for Cesc. He will only play one the wings or probably as a second striker in a 4-5-1 formation. IMO. Something tells me either Rosicky or Eboue could depart come end of the season if we get Arshavin IMO. Both contracts expire at the end of the season.

As for the defensive area yeah I do agree that our defense has been comical at times but I don't think Wenger will sign any CB unless someone leaves with us having 4 centrebacks already with the addition of Song able to play there and Senderos due to return at the end of the season. Just a hunch though.

We may not be in the title race; but let's take one step at a time. Currently, the ultimate goal is Top 4 by the end of the season

Casanova88 is right too, Everton is trailing us firmly with 3 points difference while Villa is ahead us with 3 points.

Let's concentrate on snatching the 4th spot from Villa before thinking on Liverpool etc wink.gif

Man City throw cash at Milan in Kaka bid
QUOTE
LONDON (AFP) - - Manchester City have offered AC Milan 100 million pounds (150 million dollars, 110 million euros) in cash in a bid to land former Ballon d'Or winner Kaka, according to newspaper reports.

A four-man delegation led by chief executive Garry Cook met top officials at Milan's headquarters Tuesday, where they offered to make the Brazilian player the highest paid in the world on 15 million pounds a year after tax, the Daily Mail and the Sun tabloids reported.

Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's prime minister and Milan's owner, has resisted previous attempts to lure Kaka away. But the player has said he is unhappy with his role in the AC Milan team and would love to play in the Premier League.

Everton are 3 points behind, no doubt it's close; but we're also 3 and 4 points behind Villa and Chelsea which is also not too distant away. The top spot seems less likely for us with Liverpool far ahead and MU's games-in-hand, but 3rd spot is up for grabs and there's no reason for us to give up the fight.

You look downwards on the table, we look upwards... Your cup is half empty, ours is half full. Your faith is near zero, ours is full to the brim.
Meh.

More Arshavin stuff from GilbertoSilver:
QUOTE
Back in the real world, we continue to pursue that Russian fella, who is proving to be as elusive to our clutches as he is to most defenders.  Thanks to Dublin Adam, who provided a translation of this article which fuels us with the following information:

    * Arshavin was verbally promised he would be sold if an offer of €15m arrived, but Zenit are now holding out for €18m
    * Arsenal offered €10m rising to €13m, but this, as we know, was rejected
    * Zenit want all the cash upfront
    * Arshavin’s agent, the thoroughly infuriating Dennis Lachter, is reported to want €5m in fees for the deal
    * Arshavin has informed Advocaat he will not play for Zenit again, and has refused to travel with the squad to a camp in the UAE

I don't give a crap about Citeh's crazy bid for Kaka... that's absolutely dumbass money to spend on one player. One could build an entire SQUAD with that amount.

If the team don't look down to their closest competitor, we will end up going down like now where we are standing at 5th place & also like wht happened end of last season.

Any way, wht is the difference between Your cup is half empty & ours is half full ?

I would say a good CB.As you can see Man UTD was playing with Fletcher and Giggs in the middle of the park and they can trash Chelsea without conceeding a goal and Van Der Sar didn't have a busy day.He just stopped 1 shot on target..This is because their back-4 are so good.So a good CB would solve all the defensive problems.I wish AW could sign a CB in the class of Cordoba(Impossible though).

I would welcome Arshavin/Arteta anytime as both can provide quality and spark for our attack.
