QUOTE(littlebeettle @ Feb 8 2012, 11:15 AM) guys, should you are heading to Bangkok for few days holiday or work, do drop by Rajawongse Clothier at sukhumvit for 1 or 2 piece of shirt. My brother just did 1 piece of long sleeve @ 1200 baht. He wanted to get 2nd piece aft collected first piece but too rush to be done. top grade cotton and nice workmanship Nice to hear you got good experience there. What exactly is that top grade cotton? Hope you can elaborate. Also, I'm more concern with the fit, how is the fit, any photo to guide?

QUOTE(adkins981 @ Feb 23 2012, 06:36 PM) Yeap, is it a shop name or a store?? If its a store may i know where is it located? i prefer to go into a store to take a look as i wanna feel the material before purchasing it Acorn is a brand. As for feeling the material, I was once told... most of the time if u "feel" the cloth, you will end up picking the wrong ones i.e. most is not experienced enough to make the right choice by feel alone This post has been edited by MeToo: Feb 28 2012, 05:39 PM

QUOTE(lesboutons @ Mar 8 2012, 05:31 PM) just walk into any tailor's shop and see how the tailor himself is dressed. if you approve, then make 1 test pair. a long time ago i made the mistake of going to a really old tailor who was dressed like it was the 80s. he made me what must be the baggiest suit ever. of course there are old tailors who dress in clothes that look like they were made in the 80s but can make really nice stuff, but without a recommendation it is going to be hard for you to find this out. I'm sorry to say this, but the fault is not solely with the tailor. There are fitting sessions, there are dialogues with the tailor on what you want etc. If the workmanship is bad, then its probably the tailor's lack of skill. But generally I notice the majority of those going for a "bespoke" shirt/suit dont really know what they want, or lack the skills to communicate it effectively to the tailor. If that is the case... pls find a VERY good tailor who can read your mind

QUOTE(adkins981 @ Mar 9 2012, 02:04 PM) for a person who doesnt know much bout these or doesnt know the terms well enough might not b able to communicate well with their tailor... A good tailor should b able to read ur mind in some way or ask questions to for a suit should be done for the customer.. For someone who doesnt know much about a shirt/suit etc.... its better to go buy RTW. If they dont know what they want, how do they communicate that to the tailor?

QUOTE(adkins981 @ Mar 9 2012, 02:20 PM) sorry if my phrasing wasn't correct earlier, what i meant was they know what they want but doenst know the terms well enough to communicate with the tailor... I'm pretty sure most of the customers, when doing a bespoke shirt would like a perfect fit with the correct material of their choice. If they dont know what they want, this is what they end up with. Material : Something silly liek 160s, or 200s Fitting : so "fitted" they cant breath or sit, or the standard house sack cut. But... all is not lost, they can easily bring another friend along... helps a lot during the fitting session for the clueless. And... go to a 'decent' tailor... even the famed "ah loke" will give u a sack cut if you dont know what you want. Try something else.. liek "Bespoked" or "Wardrobe" etc to end up with something decent/wearable. These guys will atleast give you proper sleeve rotation etc etc... QUOTE(adkins981 @ Mar 9 2012, 02:29 PM) yeah, thats y choosing the right tailor is important. they should understand what customers want even when they speak in laymen's term.. I think... they just have a more modern cut, i'm sure they will nod and smile politely if the customer make stupid demands/comments, but you will end up with a decent shirt/suit cause that is what they do. But it comes at a premium. If the client knows what they want then they can save a few bucks and get cheaper tailors.

QUOTE(adkins981 @ Mar 9 2012, 02:41 PM) yeah i guess so, take me for example. i wanna get a bespoke shirt and looking around for decent tailor (am planning to try bespoked at 1utama).. i don't know speaking in their terms such as how i want the collar, buttons, and shoulder cutting. i would just give a brief description to them... I usually use Wardrobe. For shirts they have a printed checklist. If you are not sure, the list have pictures of the design, liek what collar, what pleats, how the cuff is etc. Buttons most have a range of MOP/horns for you to choose, except some lames ones who shows you plastic buttons and say "See they LOOK like mops".

QUOTE(lesboutons @ Mar 9 2012, 03:28 PM) i didn't go to a bespoke tailor. i was a young college kid who went to spark manshop. i told the tailor repeatedly that the suit was way too baggy but he insisted that it is impossible to slim down more. good thing spark manshop offers free alterations for life. i have taken it back to 2 different branches to have it slimmed down more, and now it is slightly more wearable. Ahh... basically the sales person fed you a bucket of BS... These days a lot of cheap RTW brands like Padini, G2000 etc offers slimcut jackets/suits. Some even come with working cuffs!!

QUOTE(lesboutons @ Mar 9 2012, 08:57 PM) does wardrobe provide bespoke services? i always thought they are similar to spark manshop. Oh yes they do... last when I talked to the CEO, they were planning to go into made to measure shoes as well... They do have a big showroom with extensive samples etc... i find their branch in pavilion SEVERELY lacking... the only plus was that there is a pretty hot lookign girl workign there..

QUOTE(lesboutons @ Mar 10 2012, 06:47 PM) wow that is interesting. how is the rm220 for shirts for workmanship alone? The workmanship is around 200~220, this is inclusive of MOP buttons, any contrasting inner collar lining etc. They do have some material that can get you a shirt all in around 250 onwards if I remember correctly, i havent used their material in a long while. QUOTE(adkins981 @ Mar 12 2012, 12:06 PM) that is quite reasonable. I hope its not only u that could get that type of price from him as ur a regular.. The prices are standard pricing as I can remember them. No point disclosing 'special' pricing.

QUOTE(adkins981 @ Mar 12 2012, 03:14 PM) will check him out if i have the time, any advice on choosing materials? Erm... their more affordable stuff is mostly the same, just go for something that looks decent. I would think go for the cheapest usable material on yoru first try, you would liek to see how is their workmanship/fit and whether they meet your expectation before goign further.

QUOTE(evilnickwong @ Mar 21 2012, 07:26 PM) How much is a normal price to shorten jacket sleeves? I have a Zara jacket and all I need is to shorten the sleeves. Tailors in Singapore seem to ask about $30 for this. Wondering if it's better I bring back to KL haha. With out without workign sleeve buttons?

QUOTE(evilnickwong @ Mar 23 2012, 10:03 PM) Not much idea on how workmanship is here, can only rely on opinions from forums as well. But I notice most tailors seem to quote almost a week before it's ready. That probably rules out KL since I'm only back for 3-4 days at a time. Haha u know how it works. Tailors will provide the following 3 services. Cheap, Good, Fast! Pick 2

QUOTE(evilnickwong @ Mar 26 2012, 05:18 PM) Haha yeah I'm familiar with the concept of picking 2 from a triangle's points. I'm not worried about waiting, just that it prevents me from doing it in KL. I guess I might proceed in Singapore then. Thanks. Go ahead with SG. Cause the savings you 'might' get in Msia is not worth the hassle.
