Some random thoughts came and crossed my mind, do tailors actually alter trench coats?

One wrong move and water will be seeping through the seams.

That is a thought. What i know if you buy off the rack, they can alter the body length and sleeves. But not the shoulders. Its much like a normal coat. If your coat has a liner, then its a definite no. Too much job. Trech coat without shoulder padding seems easier. But overcoat is hard. And you need to wear your suit jacket on with the trench or overcoat to get them altered. Unless you are thinking of something else.

They come with shoulder padding? I thought they weren't supposed to have shoulder padding since they are meant to be worn over other articles of clothing and if it's something thick underneath like a suit with padded shoulders, padding would only double the bulk on the shoulders, making you look like... an american football player. Both my trenches (one of them purchased from US) do not have shoulder padding.

By the way, I remember reading from somewhere last time that the seams and threads of trenches are coated with water-resistant material so that water doesn't seep through the seams and stiches. Delivering them to the tailor for alteration might somewhat jeopardize the garment's water-resistancy.

Hi Guys,

I would like to suggest this tailors;

Binwani's @ The Curve, I have been tailoring from them for quite sometime and I would say they are the best so far I ever had I have tried Lords, Fox, tux and blazers etc etc. Binwani's are quite pricey but their customer service and tailoring makes up for the price. they really listen and give sugesstion before making you anything. I would say if you like bespoke tailorng try them.
Pricing from RM 400 for pants and  Suits RM 2000 onwards, shirts from RM 200 onwards.

Some do have. Just to add some girth to the shoulders. About the seams not being water proof, i remember reading about waterproof yarns. But its for baggage use. I wonder if they have used it for outter wear as well? Hmmm.....

making it looser, probably not.. cos usually ready made shirts rarely have extra fabric for the tailor to work with.. what's the problem? because i seriously doubt it's too tight to begin with..

hmmm well i doubt anything can be done to expend the size, but you could try and bring it to a tailor to see if they can do it =)

I don't think anyone alters Polo shirts. Also the strings used on them is different from the ones used for making shirts and such. I believe they are stretchable strings.
