Biomedicine carried wide range of subjects from nuclear medicine to biostatistics all cover in biomedicine course. Im talking about biomedicine that conducted at Uni Malaya. You can earn anything special if you want to stay with your bachelor degree. Biomedicine well recognize around the globe, with biomedicine degree in your hand it will be easier for you to top up with related Master Degree course. Just my 2 cent biggrin.gif

alright, firstly, what is in my mind is :What related Master Courses can i take if i graduates with this degree?

secondly, what do you mean by earning anyhting special? mind to elaborate further?

thirdly, do u mean only UM Biomedical science programme recognised internationally?

Do clarify that=)

1. You can go to any Master course that you interested as long it related to medicine and biology. Master degree programme such as Applied anatomy, biostatistics, histology, microbiology and so on..the list continue..basically biomedicine degree prepared the student with theoretical medicine that required top up master degree & phd programme before being a scientist.

2. You dont earn anything special by having bachelor degree in biomedicine simply because it cover wide range of bio-medicine knowledge. Therefore you need master degree top specilize what you have been learn in degree programme.

3. Biomedicine programme itself been recognized internationally because it cover wide range of study of biology and medicine but not in Malaysia. Biomedicine graduate struggle to find job after graduate..

the lists that u stated are an actual portrayal of those Research projects that u specialise during ur master/phd.
Yes, i reckon that biomedicine is a wide and general degree that relatively covered almost anything about medicines and biology.

But what about Biochemistry? I thought for medicines, it is of no use if without any chemistry components. if u are talking about biology, and yet we can't deny the facts that it is of no linkage at all with chemistry. So how do you see it btw?

In biochemistry it covers wide area of biology. What can I say, it deals with carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids and etc. So it more into biology rather than chemistry.

I don't denied the linkage of chemistry in biomedicine but in the end to tend to go biological aspect.

In chemistry it can be devided into organic and non-organic chemistry.

Hope you understand what Im trying to say here. icon_idea.gif

how is you life at IMU?
I recently find myself to have loved lab works a lots. XD
Hopefully i am getting used to do the lab works, as tonnes of lab works are waiting for me during my coming 2nd year.=.='

I beg to differ, it is more to chemistry where u learn lots of cycles and all those cycles need you to be good in chemistry to understand more on the chemical structures and its components as well.

To some, Biochemistry is only interesting if you are good in playing with the chemical structures. I would says it is more inclined towards ORGABNIC CHEMISTRY!

That just a simple chemistry. Chemistry structure should be known by every science stream student.

I would stand with my opinion that Biomedicine is more towards biology than chemistry.

yes, chemistry is important as important math & physic..but the most important aspect is biology

Are u serious?

Mind to share what subject everything about chemistry?

U are 1st year student? dont want to offend you..but you might dont have a clear picture of biomedicine..

biomedicine is not only biochemistry..

i am doing my final year in IMU...

We had both physical chem and org chem... Biochemistry and clinical biochemistry... Bioanalysis is also about chemistry....

I am not saying that is is solely biochemistry...

I am trying to say that, Chemistry is important as well....

Im sorry..we might have a different scope since Im from different uni. I dont know why IMU emphasize on chemistry (since u have organic chemistry, physical chemistry and biochemistry)..during my study at public uni we only have biochemistry in 1st year..in 2nd and 3rd year we have to pick our majoring course either nuclear medicine, pathology, immunology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and the list go on..

it's ok... I understand that different uni got different way. And I am doing biomedical science, not biomedicine. That alone is a difference already! smile.gif

well, well well....

These bold subjects alone are already encompassing lots of chemistry components inside la, oh my friend. doh.gif

Do that makes a difference? I really doubt it, all the way long, i thought they are just differ a bit on the terms but mean the same thing. blush.gif

ahhh, accidentally bump into this thread and read thoroughly thru everything ~ !
great information except the mid part where imu students chatting, etc sweat.gif (my cousin is doing medical biotech btw in imu 2nd year)

I am doing biomed as well in uk, going into final year in sep
I think the conclusion is pretty much staring into ur face

graduate prospects in msia sucks (maybe another 5-7years)
biomed > can venture into medicine (min additional 4 years)
try to further ur studies (msc, phd) or work overseas
lecturing in msia is ok (lots of unis are offering bio related courses), as someone mention, starting pay is reasonable
just need to work ur way up from a general lecturer>senior lecturer etc
I am sure profs need to take post doctorate, but phd is very very good enough

Apart from that, biomed is def growing and is not useless as some ppl here are saying (lab tech, etc)
There are lots of disclipines u can major in and the routes u take can be endless
heck u can even be a genetic counsellor...see my point?

Easy comparison between biotech and biomed
Biotech > Plants, Agricultural (Msia ichiban), Equipment, Technology, Technology !!
Biomed > Human body, Diseases ! Diseases ! (medicine basics mostly)
