Hi Joey and Jonny4! May I ask why Terre is better than egoiste?
*
I don't find either to be better than each other.

Both are too different to compare. Its like apples and oranges situation.

Are you referring to Platinum Egoiste or Egoiste ?

Still hard to compare TdH and PE. Both very different and both are good colognes. But IMO TdH edges slightly ahead because it's more unique compared to PE.

Any opinions on the latest D&G Anthology series?

Waste of money. I tried all the other day and was very disappointed. Its as generic as generic can get. Some perfumes from Watsons and Guardian smell better.

Why are summer editions perfume cheaper than their original counterpart?

From what i understand the only differences between both is that citrus is added in the summer ed ones?

what do you guys think of ck one summer or ck eternity summer?
*
They are cheaper because of marketing usually and sometimes because the concentrations might be less than the regular version. Some summer editions are EDCs instead of the standard EDT.

Citrus is a very common ingredient in perfumery. Usually in summer editions the citrus note is amplified to become more prominent. As we all know citrus gives the impression of fresh, invigorating and relaxing to our noses. Other than a stronger citrus note, summer editions sometimes have lesser amounts of other ingredients compared to the regular version. This is usually done not to save cost but instead to make the fragrance less dense, cloying and strong.

CK One Summer has between 5-6 versions iirc. They always smell different from year to year. My personal fav is the 2006 version. The 2009 version smells too sweet to me and i feel quite girly. There's a prominent pineapple note.

Eternity has 5 Summer versions to date but unfortunately I've only worn the 2006 version that is not bad. Haven't tried the 2009 version.

Summer version of a fragrance are usually a hit and miss for me. They either smell really good or really bad and they don't last very long.

Hi guys biggrin.gif . i've been reading the posts..interesting thread btw. so i've listed down these colognes to choose from for my next purchase.

-Bulgari Aqua
-versace eau fraich
-sean jean unforgivable
-Gucci by gucci (pour homme)--mainly because many say it long lasting

I've used Davidoff Cool water before. now i'm using Polo Double Black. How does Bulgari Aqua compares to Cool water? versace eau fraich and Sean Jean Unforgivable are totally new for me.never heard of them before, but would very like to try it. Anyone here can share your opinion for these two? thanks!
*
Out of your list Bulgari Aqua would be the best of the bunch IMO. But I must warn you about Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme. It is not long lasting at all ! Its longevity i would say is about 4 hours give or take. A person would practically have to hug u to be able to detect it. I know this because i wasted Rm210 on this a few months ago. When i do wear Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme, I would need about 10 sprays or more. Yes it's that weak. If u can get it for less than half price then it's worth it.

Cool Water is a great fragrance IMO but the problem is every guys in Malaysia either owns a bottle or is going to buy at least one in the future. So it's just too common. But I do have a bottle and I wear it often because it's that good biggrin.gif
Cool Water doesn't last very long though compared to Bulgari Aqua. Personally Bulgari Aqua is a better made fragrance compared to Cool Water and the other two. Your Double Black however would outlast all 3. Eau Fraiche basically smells similar to D&G Light Blue for Women. It's a long story but basically D&G sold the Light Blue formula to Versace and they used it to make Eau Fraiche. Try both and u will see the similarities. Eau Fraiche is good but I prefer Light Blue for Women. Unforgivable is alright, a rather average short lasting fragrance. Unforgivable is a copy of Creed's Millesime Imperial but Unforgivale is 3 times cheaper than the Creed. Millesime Imperial last much longer than Unforgivable though and smells slightly better. I went with Unforgivable because I don't see the economics of spending RM600 on a bottle of perfume.

Sean Jean Unforgivable is great!! the smell lasts on my skin for a long time, but after the first hour, the smell becomes very faint? as in you must be really close to actually get the scent of it.
*
Unforgivable gives me longevity of 4 hours on my skin. Yes it's disappointing I know and I usually spray 5 shots sad.gif
So yeah you are not the only one getting very faint sillage from Unforgivable. Not worth the RM200 i spent on it IMO. Once I sprayed 10 sprays all over my body and clothes. That time the whole office smelled of Unforgivable and honestly there were a few who were not pleased with that. Like I said in the earlier post, give Millesime Imperial from Creed a try. And if u got the $$$ buy a bottle biggrin.gif

If u have a problem with colognes being short lasting i suggest u look for colognes released in the 80s and 90s. Colognes from that time period tend to be stronger smelling n longer lasting compared to the expensive short lasting stuff nowadays. Even better news is that colognes from the 80s and 90s tend to be cheaper than the newest colognes. But that doesn't mean all of the newer stuff are short lasting. Some like Kenzo Power, YSL M7 and Lanvin Arpege can survive a bath or 2. There are a lot of resources and reviews online to help in finding a cologne that is fresh and long lasting.

bvlgari aqua or aqua marine is better

Marine has stronger citrus but is shorter lasting compared to Aqua.

Aqua is much longer lasting compared to Marine.

So u can't have the best of both worlds LOL. Decision time man.

woah u really know a lot about perfumes. i'm not very sure but my double black usually lasts from 1-2 hours only.i spray on my wrist and neck. but maybe it's because i have used it sparingly. 2-3 sprays most of the time tongue.gif . i think i'm going for the Unforgivable. going for a tester tomorrow! thanks for the input bro
*
1-2 hrs ? Impossible that it's so short lasting. 1 spray on my arm and it lasts at least 5 hours. Don't be fooled by the top notes because they never last.

Different like night and day both. Hard to say which is better as both are so different. But i prefer wearing Kenzo POwer over M7.

Just came back to Singapore last night and ofcourse while Im still in CHangi Airport, I went to Duty Free shop there and smelled the Terre D Hermes and man, that perfume smells so good. It's cause a bomb also for a 50ml bottle cost SGD$100 (net of taxes already). I get a tip to go to Mustafa but unfortunately, while I was in Singapore I was so busy to go to Mustafa. I might get tht perfume cheaper there.

Johhny4/Joey, I've been hearing about Kenzo Power and YSL M7 here in this thread. Your giving me certain doubt about choosin Terre and to try these perfumes out. Maybe I'm just being so bias for choosin Terre D Hermes because It won an award for Best Day Wear Perfume last year. I think I should go and compare these 3 perfumes (Terre D Hermes, Kenzo Power and YSL M7) out to see which perfume would compliment my initial collection of perfumes (Hugo Element & Cucci Envy). What's your take on this?
*
Nice to hear about your perfume adventures LOL

SGD 100 is too much to pay for TdH as the price is similar if not cheaper here. Maybe u can head to Mustafa the next time u go down south.

I feel that the awards don't mean a thing. A cologne can win 100 awards but if u don't like how it smells that's the end of the story. So don't choose a cologne just because it has won awards. That's how i go about choosing colognes, by following your instinct and your nose.

TdH, Power and M7 are all very different. I think the only similarities between the three is that they are long lasting and sweet. Here's my impression on all 3:

TdH - Bitter oranges, woody and a gunpowder like smokiness.

Power - Sweet creamy florals. It's quite feminine though and i feel can be worn by both sexes.

M7 - Sweet medicinal cherry cough syrup with bitterness in the background. Hints of vanilla too.

If I were u M7 would be my choice. Element is light, Envy is average strength and M7 would be that strong evening wear cologne. But test on skin 1st though.

Almost every brand nowadays has a fresh scent.

You could try Versace Pour Homme, Caroline Herrera 212 Men and YSL Live Jazz if u r looking for something similar to Eau Fraiche and Aqua di Gio. All 3 are less than RM200 for 50ml. Versace PH is even available for RM150 for 30ml.

But I guess try it on skin would be a better choice to make decision right?

There's this shop call Beauty Language in SG..Called Beauty language, its something like Just Parfum.Perfume is cheaper in SG?

And has anyone heard of this Franck Olivier? Saw it at some store counter..
*
Prices at major department stores like Tangs, Isetan and Takashimaya are going to be either equal or more expensive than prices here. But according to my SG friends, there are some places in Mustafa where prices can go as low as SGD50 for a 100ml bottle. Of course don't expect the latest colognes to be obtainable at such low prices. SG also has a bigger selection of fragrances to choose from compared to Msia.

I have heard of Franck Olivier but I have not tested them before. Where did u see it ?

Should be around 180-200. The new Allure Homme Edition Blanche is retailing for RM210 so the much older Allure Sport should be less. Chanel men's fragrances are available in almost all department stores (Parkson, Jusco, Metro). Allure Sport is quite good and is very similar to Versace Pour Homme.

really?? i never knew a thing about first note or base note before i join in this thread but come to think of it I think you're right. the scent is still there in the afternoon even if i sprayed it in the morning. it's just not strong enough to be noticed without sniffing.haha oh where can i find/test versace eau freich and Sean Jean Unforgivable? do they have it in Parkson KLCC?
*
90% of all perfume top notes will not last beyond one hour (give or take). A lot of us are fooled to think that a perfume is weak just because a couple of hrs after we spray it on it doesn't smell the same/strong anymore. But it was made to progress that way. I have worn a few perfumes that smell the same from start to finish and trust me it can be quite tiresome and cloying after 3-4 hrs.

Versace Eau Fraiche and Unforgivable is very common and available in almost every department store in the KL/PJ area. So Parkson KLCC most definitely has it.

Thanks jonny4 &Joey! I'll be headin to KLCC or Pavillion this week to try these perfumes.

By the way, do you have these perfumes? Have you been using it every since you bought them?
*
Yeah i have M7, Kenzo Power and Tdh. I wear them quite often but M7 lesser then the other 2 because i save M7 for special occasions. Since I bought them i wear them maybe once a month. Im a bit shy in saying this but I have a lot of colognes that's why they get worn only once a month blush.gif
Colognes i really like i wear maybe 2-3 times a month but never more than once a week smile.gif

Most definitely trying on skin is way better than paper. Everyone has their own kind of unique body scent, mix that up with a cologne and u will get a somewhat unique smelling effect.

Just ask the sales assistant to spray your arm/wrist the next time u r out testing fragrances.

may we know which colognes you use/wear 2-3 times a month?
*
My taste in colognes changes very often. One month I might love cologne A then the next month I'll hate it tongue.gif

But the colognes I love and wear more or less 2-3 times a month since the day I bought them in no specific order are:

YSL Rive Gauche
YSL Kouros
Hermes Terre d'Hermes
Solo Loewe
Bulgari Aqua
Gucci Pour Homme
Prada Infusion d'Homme
Prada Amber Pour Homme
Hermes Concentree D'Orange Verte
Dior Fahrenheit
Dior Eau Sauvage
Chanel Pour Monsieur

This list is quite inaccurate as it can be very different the next month. This list is based on how much is left in the bottle too. So above are the ones that seemed to be lesser than the rest tongue.gif

Thanks for the advise, coz the lady always take out the paper first so a bit paisea to ask her to spray at wrist..

Im using CK Eternity for Men summer..Trying to get another type of perfume..Anything similar?
*
You got to be a little thick skin as the sales assistants sometimes think it's weird that u want to spray your skin instead of paper. I've gotten a few "Are you serious ?" look from them when i asked them to spray my arm. I remember one male sales assistant being so reluctant to spray my arm that I asked him to pass the tester to me so I could have a closer look. I took the bottle from him and sprayed my arm twice...he was shocked and angry at what i did LOL. Most of them will not hesitate to spray your arm when requested.

Eternity Summer I've only worn the 2006 edition so i'm not too sure. But Paco Rabanne XS smells similar to Eternity so u might want to give that a try.

For me soft means floral dominant colognes. You could try Prada Infusion d'Homme/Prada Infusion d'Iris, Dior Homme, Kenzo Power and Prada Amber Pour Homme.

Its pronounced like "home", as in "i'm going home now".

Yup soft smelling colognes can last long too. But the definition of soft can differ fr person to person. for me soft smelling colognes are slightly more feminine. Many women's fragrances can outlast many men's fragrances.

Dior Homme for me would be one my favourite "soft" colognes.

Yup u r right...orientals are dominant with spices like cinnamon, pepper and cumin. The usual wood and citrus are included inside too but not dominant.
