erm....bar-biting could mean that they're stressed or it could possible be because of their chewing instincts...just some more toys for him to chew. most hamsters bite the bars because they love the salty taste of the rust.
is the cat food onion and garlic free? what are the ingredients?

i think mixing wouldn't be a problem...it could be better as there will be more variety in their diet.

My hamster/hamster cage stinks although I bath them once a week n change their bedding frequently.
Any ideas bout the smell???
My hammies r Robos...
N which type of bedding is the best?? Bedding finishing soon... sad.gif
*
when you purchase the sandbath make sure you don't get the scented ones...it's bad.

QUOTE(Princess90 @ May 24 2009, 12:49 AM)

Quite confuse between those hay... R they bedding or food??
*

Added on May 24, 2009, 12:33 pmi've came across people saying that using hay as bedding could be bad due to its spikey and sharp edges. it could be dangerous as it could poke their pouches.

females that are on heat can get very stinky smile.gif...this is one of the signs...
sugarcoatedcandy, your hams are all so cute! they remind me of my friend's Pompy. just as a suggestion, since you RCs are still pups and you're using hay and BC as bedding you can actually add a little toilet rolls to create a snuggly environment as they're still small and fragile...
hope you don't get offended as i was just giving my opinion smile.gif

We first planned to tear tissues and put inside but scared =x so how should the toilet roll be? As it is or shud we shred them into pieces laugh.gif thanks again for the suggestion!  rclxms.gif

*
erm...you can actually shred...i'm not sure about leaving toilet rolls without shredding as it can suffocate them...

the best cage you can opt for is definately a zoozone2(which is no longer in production)or a really huge bin cage...and 10 into a 1.5 feet cage is surely too small...
or you can separate half into a zoozone 1(which can be found in PLC Sunway)...
and i remember jtl telling me once that there's a cage that looks like zoozone in Petshack...you can pm her and enquire if it's still available.

as said you can use wodent wheel(which is used by most of us in LYN) or a comfort wheel...better get a good one la so later don't have to change again brows.gif
you can get wodent wheel in Petshack and Comfort wheel in PLC.

HI,

I have 2 Syrians. I recently got a rodent bathroom for them. But after 2 weeks as a toilet, it's a bed/food storage...Should I just leave it as it is or get another bathroom for them? Just changed it yesterday and they still put food inside =/ I change the sand 2 times a week as per the instruction on the bath sand packet.
*
just leave as it is... they might get stressed if you remove the food from where they put it...its their territory, so let them do what they want lor. smile.gif
make sure the sand is not scented.

Hey..I actually removed the wheel the moment Chery cant fit into the wheel..Not trying to give her back pains or watever uncomfortable situation..

Got a bigger wheel this time but the stupid moment was when the cage opening was too small for me to put in the wheel..Thinking of detaching the cage later..Hmm

And I got some spare Habitrail parts..Some are from the space station series..If u guys want or anything just give me a pm.

One concern..my sister were given two Syrian (Chery and Berry) by my dad's friend who for some reason rears around more than 20 hamsters..I've read the thread and told my dad bout the consequences keeping two together..Now Berry is with her friend and in another cage..My dad asked his friend about it and his friend said its okay to keep two Syrian hamsters together.. Saw them fought before so a bit worried that one of them could die lea.. How? hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
syrians are solitary and they MUST be separated... they will not fight untill their 6-7 weeks old...but they eventually will fight to gain their territory.
when my friend bought a syrian hamster her father said kesian la that hamster why don't get a pair...so, she did as her dad told...once she reached home the unwanted thing happened! both syrians fought...so, when she decided to give one away, i took it! so, the moral of this story is do not keep two syrians together.
here's the hamster that she wanted to give away: presenting to all LYN members my little demon tongue.gif user posted image

Hello everyone, this is my first post here as i am in big trouble..

i have 2 ww(M n F) in a harbitrail mini + ovo cage (connected together)..and yesterday my friend gave me another young WW(F) that she was planning to let go to the wild(cruel eh hmm.gif ). i brought it home and they fight..although i know it would happen but i just didn't want to let the WW my friend gave die in the wilderness..my M ww just wanna have s*x with the young ww  doh.gif but my F ww just can't get along sad.gif ..so what should i do?? i have already separeted my the small ww into a small cage but i know its going to be bored soon sad.gif ..someone help me, how am i going to make them co-exist together? sad.gif

btw wanna ask also...my hammy like to make the sand bath as their toilet..so how often should i clean it and give new sand? coz now i'm cleaning it everyday!! shocking.gif is it ok to just leave the sand as it is for a week maybe? hmm.gif
*
fights are not something abnormal in dwarfs...but if they fight untill they draw blood then you must separate them. i've had friends who had the same problem like you do...but when they change their cage to a bigger one the problem stopped.
so, perhaps try changing the cage....if bigger cages are too costly then get bin cages which are big in more cheaper price.

as for the sand bath question, just remove the lumps and watever unwanted things you find in there...the rest of the sand can be reused. but if they stash in their food in the sand don't remove it. and make sure your sand is not scented.

if they're really fighting almost most of the time from my point of view you better separate them to be on the safe side...
but if you still insist them to be together then TRY getting a big cage...it might help. and OVO not very airy la.
you can get a huge bin cage for RM35 in stores...hope you don't get offended, its just from my point of view. hope these helped!

i'm going to move to perak so no luxury to have 2 cage coz be going there by bus, this one is already a handful..that's why need to make them all together-together before i move to perak this july..
*
since getting another cage is a troublesome for you then the best thing is to separate them since the are fighting...

Wah so much tissue paper.

They're nice comforters but I recommend you to get a proper bedding like aspen shavings of breeder celect. The breeder one can last for a long, long time....really can absorb the smell!

There was once I didn't change for 3 weeks, still not stinky.
*
gosh! yeah...i know that aspen is the best wood beddings...but where to get?
have you seen anywhere aspen bedding?
i've been looking for carefresh and aspen...if really didn't get then i'll opt for BC or B2N.

kinda expensive. hehe.. nevermind, i think guppy tank is better for my hammy that love nibbling.. she's still scared when i'm trying to hold her, any tips besides giving food through hand??
*
if you're afraid to handle her by your hands then the best way for now is by using gloves...when she's used to handling then you can handle her without the gloves.

Those are not all hamsters but Mongolian gerbils in those tanks. Nezu got 2 syrians in the last pics in the maroon and blue tanks.

Nice Zoozone1 but you're not scared your syrian climb up the bars (water bottle) and escape?

erm, yeah...dad asked me to secure the top with with wire mesh...i'll be doing it soon. for now there aren't toys which are high enough for him to climb...but i surely will affix the wire mesh thing.

I love sharkie!!! Is sharkie male or female? XD Reminds me of my little zoey.. same color but the bands are darker orange.. huhuuhu~ need to get more pics of zoey XD

sharkie is a he...but now he's not around anymore...i just miss him so much...he was such a darling and he was indeed a sweetie... i remember when he was around he always waits for me to come back from school so that he can have his share of rice tongue.gif he was such a character.hmmm...it is so sad to loose such friend.
they come into our lives for a very short period of time but they leave such huge footprints...bless his little heart...
i had smokey just months after sharkie's loss...my friend wanted to give him away, so i took him...i didn't know that i wasn't prepared for another one...
i remember crying sometimes in the night because of smokey...he was so totally different from sharkie behavior wise...smokey was so quiet, shy, doesn't like being handled and very reserved type... i was sad because he was totally different from sharkie who's is a crazy little fella!
but i took the courage to tame smokey...i took him out everyday, gave him more playtime, let him run around my room like nobody's business...and then i managed to bring smokey's character out!
and now, he's such a little devil! biting the cage begging me to let him out everyday!
there are at times i still think of sharkie...he's just unforgetable.
so, no matter what you do it takes just a little courage and willingness to do the best for your hamster and giving them good life...it is our responsibilty to take care of their lives no matter what happens.don't abandon your hamster just because it is not tame or what-so-ever. remember easy things doesn't come without hardwork.

*sorry...i got too emo ready sad.gif *

salt licks stones are fine...but it can be too much when they go wild for it...too much is definately bad for them...but more chewing toys instead...or perhaps,as said above, change the cage.
