Bus to Yogya from Surabaya is around 8 hrs. I took a night bus, departing from around 6-7pm, where it stopped at somewhere between East and Central Java for a free latenite Nasi Padang supper, and continued the journey to Yogya where we arrived at the ungodly hour of 2-3am.

If you arrive early at Surabaya Airport, I suggest you head directly to Probolinggo or Malang.
Surabaya city isn't an interesting place sad.gif

Hi everyone,
Going to explore Indonesia for about 2 weeks from North to South including Surabaya. Anybody can recommend me the best prepaid carrier with unlimited internet? I'll need the internet extensively during my time there. Some tips to on how to activate the internet would be helpful too. Will use it on my iPhone or Android tablet.
Cheers! smile.gif

Suggest you also ask in Tripadvisor.com. Locals can give you better answer.
BTW, I assume it's from West to East brows.gif

LOL! True that. Got mixed up with North to South of Jakarta... tongue.gif
Guess I'll just ask the local carrier booth at the airport during my arrival. But would really appreciate any feedback from the Bros here who already tried and test the carrier for data. Will definitely need the most stable data speed with 2-3GB capacity at least during my stay... biggrin.gif

Yeah, I did the same thing too with several friends. It was awesome. You wont get this kind of experience in Malaysia biggrin.gif

QUOTE(caerulln @ Dec 22 2008, 10:34 AM)
yeah about right.
everything but bromo is rather bland.
go to bromo.
Find Bromo Sunrise Tour.
During my faculty conference there, it is the best activity i had there.
I want & will go there again soon biggrin.gif

you'll go there by bus in midnight. few hours journey.
Then change to a van due to smaller & more dangerous roads.
Then change again to a jeep. kinda like a scrambler jeep.
Reach the top in time for sunrise.
They drive like mad. Makes u fear for your life looking at the steep cliffs inches away from the u sweat.gif

The air is a bit cold there.
So if u can't stand it, rent a thick sweater there. Few bucks only.

After sunrise, go down with the same jeep to a place to ride horses.
A lot of horses. like 400 there all owned by the native there.
They'll take u for a ride to the top of a volcano.

In short, the experience is quite interesting.
We don't have that kind of stuff i Malaysia.

Kawah Ijen, Malang
Unless you are interested in Sampoerna cigarette factory, you may skip Surabaya city.

being to indonesia java for trips...never realise that some much thing to see in indonsia

i) borobodor;

ii) prambanan;

iii) ijen crater - blue lava crater but make sure u bring alone the touch light and safety mask in case they didn't provide;

iv) mount bromo - view the sunrise. unfortunately it is over crowded

v) mount merapi;

vi) dieng - colour lake is the best;

vii) panandaran beach - visit the green canyon is the must. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

thing i don't like is the indonesia city and transport in indo. too many motorbike, driver drove quite relentless and roads were very disorganised.

You can ask your hotel to arrange for group tour.
And, if you can get people to share the cost, hire a 4x4 to visit the nearby villages. I didn't manage to do that sad.gif

Oh yes, if time permitting, visit Kawah Ijen too. Give Surabaya city a pass unless you are interested in cigarette factory.
