Hi guys, I will be travelling to Surabaya soon with few of my friends middle of next year. We planned to hike Mount Semeru there (currently I'm contacting one of the guide to quote for price) and then we plan to go Mount Bromo/Penanjakan and Mount Ijen unguided. Just want to ask: 1. Is it possible to go Bromo/Penanjakan and Ijen unguided? I see that Bromo/Penanjakan trails are quite easy and hence not much problem. What about Ijen? Because we plan to go midnight for the blue flame and not sure if it is safe for us to go by ourselves. Also, should we bring masks or something to go to Ijen because I read from few blogs stating the high sulphur smell there.
2. What is the cheapest flight from Kuala Lumupr to Surabaya? Right now i check AirAsia seems quite expensive..maybe I should just wait for the usual AirAsia's promo/freeseat..
3. How far is it from Semeru -> Bromo -> Ijen? I'm contacting the guide right now about dropping us at Cemoro Lawang right we completed Semeru.
Thanks.
1. Yes, no problem. You can see these places without a guide. Bring a mask for ijen
2. No idea on this, but should be less than rm200 for return
3. Semeru to Bromo is about 15km, Bromo and Ijen are a few hundred km apart
Hi, we had back from Ijen and Bromo - Indonesia The view from both mountain are really awesome BTW, here is the vlog take by us in there. Welcome to give some comment

hi! last post was 2018, no one going surabaya since then?
planning to go there in a few months. the bromo, ijen, waterfall trip, is too extreme for old people and small child? we experienced timang beach & merapi before at jogja, is it about the same or much more challenging? thanks!

Yup...seem like no one been there lately...haha Maybe due to pandemic, travelling has been hampered.
Bromo, as i recall....you don't have to walk up the hill. They do have jeep transport to go up. (my info is based on many years ago) Others who was there recently can chip in some info.
