Anyone has experience going back to Surabaya airport from Mt. Bromo? i can't seem to find relevant info, most of them are the other way round.

Nope. U can take bus direct from probolinggo to surabaya, only 2hrs each way

You flying to Surabaya then to Bromo right? One week more than enough, you only need one full day in bromo to see most of everything

haven't really done my itinerary. but i think it'll basically be like:

#1: Jakarta
#2: take morning train to Jogja
#3: Jogja
#4: Jogja or take midnight train to Surabaya

the plan after that would be Bromo planning to fly back to KL from Surabaya airport

1 week more than enough to cover actually

D1 - Jakarta
D2 - Jakarta. Night train to Yogyakarta
D3 - Yogyakarta
D4 - Yogyakarta. Afternoon train to Surabaya.
D5 - Surabaya to Probolinggo to Bromo.
D6 - Bromo. Back to Surabaya
D7 - Fly back

so between D4 and D5, are you suggesting me to stay 1 night in Surabaya? cuz afternoon train from Jogja is at 4/4.30pm, after reaching Surabaya would be 8pm+, according to the train website.

Up to you. You can take the night train to Surabaya if u want to save on accommodation. But that morning when u arrive at Surabaya, you need to get to bus station to get the bus to Probolinggo. From Probolinggo bus station, u can take the minibus to Cemero Lawang.

Cemero Lawang itself nothing much to do, though u can hire an ojek to bring u around to see bromo savanna, sea of sand or even visit bromo crater in the afternoons.

ya i think i better take the midnight train 12am from jogja to surabaya. reach there at 5.30am+ dont mind continue to probolinggo then to cemero lawang. but i have to carefully estimate how long i will take from Bromo back to Surabaya airport. havent bought flight tic for that lol

Hi guys, I will be travelling to Surabaya soon with few of my friends middle of next year. We planned to hike Mount Semeru there (currently I'm contacting one of the guide to quote for price) and then we plan to go Mount Bromo/Penanjakan and Mount Ijen unguided. Just want to ask:
1. Is it possible to go Bromo/Penanjakan and Ijen unguided? I see that Bromo/Penanjakan trails are quite easy and hence not much problem. What about Ijen? Because we plan to go midnight for the blue flame and not sure if it is safe for us to go by ourselves. Also, should we bring masks or something to go to Ijen because I read from few blogs stating the high sulphur smell there.

2. What is the cheapest flight from Kuala Lumupr to Surabaya? Right now i check AirAsia seems quite expensive..maybe I should just wait for the usual AirAsia's promo/freeseat..

3. How far is it from Semeru -> Bromo -> Ijen? I'm contacting the guide right now about dropping us at Cemoro Lawang right we completed Semeru.
