wondering is it safe to go and explore Surabaya, Bromo and some other places nearby for single female traveler? This will be my 1st time traveling alone to Indonesia. I heard the public transport there (Surabaya) is not bad but don't know how reliable they are. And the local as well.
Consider safe if u stick to the regular tourist routes. Surabaya > Probolinggo > Bromo > Surabaya Surabaya itself nothing much to do other than a staging ground for Bromo
When u going?
okay thanks. I just want a confirmation about that.
I must do a lot of research on this trip. Its the local/ native that I worried much. Too many bad stories. Its okay. Must give it a try. The sunrise at Mt Bromo is the reason I bought the tix.
Find a nice & honest tour guide when u reached there. But I will try my best not to use/ hire drivers or tour guide.
I have my fair share of meeting genuinely helpful and "seemingly helpful" people on my trips... That's the beauty of travel though... you never know what to expect
Haha, what do u need to know about bromo? Just know that once u touchdown in surabaya, u can book a tour to bromo complete with accommodation for about 1 million rupiahs
If u want to DIY, u can take a bus to probolinggo, then from there, u can take a minibus down to cemero lawang. From cemero lawang, you can buy tours of gunung penanjakan + bromo. There's a entrance fee of 217,000 rupiahs to pay when u enter bromo (I think it's 317,000 rupiahs on weekends). For side trips, can consider bromo savannah or/and madakaripura waterfall.
From cemero lawang, you can take bus back to probolinggo, then take another bus from there to bondowoso. From here, you can get midnight tours to ijen. If u want to DIY, ride the minibus from Bondowoso to Sempol, and from there u can get on an ojek to take u to pos paltuding, where u can begin ur ascent to ijen crater. After sunrise, u can retrace ur steps back to Bondowoso > Probolinggo > Surabaya.
I prefer this DIY trip.

I just want to know how's their public transport. The bus from probolinngo to cemero lawang and to Bromo. The route to Bromo without tour & all info are clearly stated in the given blog (thank you). Only the public transport part.
As for the route, I havent got any idea where to go what to do. Just gather all info and create my iti later. Bdw, I will arrive at Surabaya and my flight back will be at Jakarta. 7 days. Maybe I will spend 4-5days in Surabaya, 1 day in BDO, 1 day at JKT. Just my rough plan
An effective route to take would be (without backtracking)
Day 1 - Surabaya Day 2 - Probolinggo - Cemero Lawang Day 3 - Mt Penanjakan - Bromo - Take jeep to Tumpang, overnight at Malang Day 4 - In and around Malang, train to Bandung Day 5 - In and around Bandung, train to Jakarta Day 6 - In and around Jakarta Day 7 - Flight home
But seriously tight...
Day 1 - Surabaya Day 2 - Probolinggo - Cemero Lawang Day 3 - Mt Penanjakan - Bromo Day 4 - To Ijen Crater Day 5 - waterfall Madapuri... Train to Jkt Day 6 - In and around Jakarta Day 7 - Flight home
Ive included the Ijen Crater in the draft. Really want to see the blue smoke and trek/ hike to the crater at midnight ngehehhehe
Skip Bandung . But I wanna drop by just to buy the delicious steam cake hahaha not sure whether I can get it somewhere in Jkt or Surabaya
Erm... Better do madakaripura on day 2 if u can. Hire an ojek to go there. After bromo, u need to take the minibus to probolinggo then bus to and overnight in bondowoso (day 3). If u want to save a day, just take midnight ijen tour from bondowoso. If not then, next morning (day 4) take minibus to sempol. From, there u can start ur ascent to ijen at midnight (day 5), come back down after sunrise, then ride minibus back to bondowoso and bus back to probolinggo to catch your train to jkt.
Btw, what steam cakes?
Okay. Thanks for the info. I will read it carefully.
Eh, not steam cakes (I simply say ). Its the steamed brownies. The signature dessert of Bandung (I think)
AFAIK, there is no public transport from Cemero Lawang to Bromo. You need to join a tour or hire a driver.
Do you think I can just gamble for the accommodation there? Or its advisable to book a hotel/ room/ homestay via website a few months before? I ll be going on Sept. Not sure whether its in the peak season or not
Already know this. Can walk actually, but if got time constraint, better hire ojek or take a tour I see, where can I get these delicious cakes? Btw, wanna ask u, how easy would it be for me to get to garut from bandung and back? Thinking of skipping tangkuban perahu/kawah putih for papandayan Can't, don't think u can find any accommodation in cemero lawang online. Have to walk in and book yourself Same with Sempol/Ijen (I'm more worried about not being able to get accommodation in sempol than cemero lawang though...)

Cake shop. 3 famous brands: Amanda brownies, Kartika Sari brownies & Prima Rasa Brownies. I was thinking just to drop by at Bandung to get a few brownies . Hair treatment is also cheap. Now makes me wanna change my iti again

nvr been to Garut before. Bdw, Mt. Papandayan looks nice. Better than Tangkuban Perahu. Too many people (locals & tourists). Kawah putih was awesome when I was there

Not exactly the same la, you're welcome to try and make it more compact Will be in bromo for roughly 3-4 days
