QUOTE(patryn33 @ Jan 25 2010, 08:31 AM) +1 on that!!! chinese QC really... unpredictable! yeah, i had same thoughts...most of the review are immediately after receiving..with photos and all that...was searching for after 6 months or 1 year ownership experience...I wonder how many actually return to give a review after 6mths. when I 1st got my cheapo its running great! +5secs. with time... sign... ck77 purchase at ~us$100, guess can't be helped http://www.siswatch727.com/index.do well, hopefully ck77's one will turn out to be alright! Am looking at watches with power reserve display now...dont know why...but i like the idea of knowing how much juice left in my automatics.....hahahaha now, shortlisting to Hamilton jazzmaster, Mido Baroncelli, or perhaps one of those Seiko Premiers with the power display function Frede C., Maurice Lac, and Longines do have some nice lower end models with the function but still pricey... not wanting to pay more than 3k if possible... |

[quote=patryn33,Jan 25 2010, 09:34 AM]frederique Constant? I didn't find any. which 1 are u looking at?
Hamilton H32519535, isn't more than 3K? http://www.watchconcepts.com/wc/hamilton/h32519755.htm Mido Baroncelli definately cost more than a Hamilton Seiko...not true mechanical... get Orient since they are part of Seiko group http://www.roachman.com/orient/preserve/CFHAA001.html this NOS Hamilton seem the cheapest. under 3K http://www.thewatchery.com/Hamilton/Watch/H34519591 Tissot also do. maybe cheaper than hamilton http://www.luxurywatchstore.com/watches/wa...4.11.053.00.asp Sandoz http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/WATCHSALES/San...SSalesTable.htm Swiss Army Airboss Mach 4 ooops...my bad...no power reserve display for FC.... but Maurice Lac has one...the pontos series....retailing about 6.5K i think.... at end of day, its your watch......you must know why you buy it...
a lot of watch lovers will tell you why buy this brand and that brand...and many times they are right....but always buy what you like.... buy what you can afford...its a never ending..chase....you might be tempted to fork out few hundreds just to get a better brand....and then some one will tell you...with the price...why not pay a bit extra to get better brand? and so on and so on.. Movement is very interesting thing....a main criteria for watch lovers....first thing they'll do is to ask about movement... But is everyone a movement person? No. So you need to ask yourself....if you really like a design, and the brand has reputation for durability, and pricing is not bad...but movement is something not attractive....do you buy it because of the design...or dont buy it because of movement? At end of day, its your watch...do you get excited seeing the design and wearing the design...or you're very particular about what is beating inside? WE have to admit..to some people...chronographs and multiple hands is more important that if its a 7750 or a lower ETA... Basic point...ask around, browse around, especially if you're forking out more than 1K for a watch...but at end of day..buy what you like... ITs true..Fortis and Ball are better `value for money' for watch people...but at end of day...if you're really impressed and in love with a Tag....and found one with an acceptable pricing....it's better you go for it...Dont wear a Fortis or Ball just because watch lovers say its better...buy it only because you're totally convinced this is something you will want to keep for long time... As for investment..remember, this is not a case of one day if you sell you make money...Only an elite group of watches have that characteristics.....and they are usually very very expensive to start with...or it takes a very experienced watch person to know that this particular design will be very popular and limited..blah blah blah....To us novice.......good `investment' means buying something that is lasting, reliable and will not lose you lots of money when you resell......But then, when you do homework properly and buy what you like..no reason to resell mah! Also, buy something that will remind you of an occasion.....after all...a watch serves as a great way to remind yourself of something/someone for past 2 months, i've been reading, browsing forums....and i know..one day, i will find what is valuable to me...and me....Hopefully, it will be a piece that will also impress people but first priority is me...hahaha!!! do browse many forums and talk to experts.....check out forums on brands like Oris, Ball, Fortis, Hamilton, Sinn, Mido...and then..there is the Omega, Tag, Longines...and once in a while...browse the IWC, Panerai and Rolex forums ...hahahaa!!! and then there are those brands with names of people..that we cannot even pronounce...and buy..hahaha Added on February 6, 2010, 7:36 pmis this true by the way??? QUOTE(patryn33 @ Feb 9 2010, 09:19 AM) Ball do mod some of their ETA movement. yeah....collectorstime have quite nice collections of Zenith...Ball or Tag... BALL!!!!!!!!!!! build quality pretty much same same... some guy here went diving with his ball and found water condensing inside. still under warranty so went in to get it fixed. 99% of the joes here not going for replica... wrong thread Ball or Tag.. prices thru AD are controlled... at most u find discount vary 1-4% depending on sales person. so long u getting thru D.. their prices are fair.. thru gray market dealers.. support local.. go collectorstime.com |

QUOTE(GreatOni @ Feb 18 2010, 01:06 PM) any expert can advise? u need to provide more details to narrow down.....dress watch? sporty? with subdials? etc?budget around 2k prefer mechanic watch prefer brand : tissot, oris, tag heuer list me the model n the price thanks for ur advise however with budget for 2-2.5k, i think you'll have more choices with Tissot and lesser choice with Oris and definitely Tag... Jean Richard make great watches. JR 1000 is their 1st inhouse movement and irrc they didn't even rely on their famous sister company Girard-Perregaux!! unlike other lux brands such as JLC, A Lange etc they didn't do much decorative finishing. got 1 older model for my sibling a yr ago, movement is base off ETA (compare it with a Oris, the base ETA movement already so much better, not to mentioned on a Jean Richard its Mod). resale value is weak but U are getting a good watch (inhouse movement with power reserve, date, regulator style) for little money. thanks patryn...yeah...did some review myself when i saw the advertisement.... just wondering why so much discount is given? normally, good swiss watches dont go beyond 35% unless if its clearance or very special offer... QUOTE(patryn33 @ Feb 21 2010, 09:00 PM) collectorstime is no AD. ok..thanks...now i got one silly question... its gray market!!!!! in gray markets discount can be as steep as 80% off retail. In fact that JR watch I only paid US$350+, comes with everything.. packaging (instructional manual and warranty card) certainly looks expensive. if U had done a satisfying gray marketing shopping b4, u wouldn't go back to AD. what actually is grey market in watch business? how is it different from AD? good to know you own one as well...How is the quality of JR? read in forum elsewhere that all their parts are genuinely swiss... AD = authorize dealer. In their contract, they are required to buy X amount of watches from these brands and can only give limited controlled discount. gray market dealers, they obtain watches thru AD. In this bad Econ, AD may go under and need to liquidate. There is no way to sell in such a short time, they will let go their items at a low price to these dealers without warranty. in other case, AD are carrying too much stock or need cash flow or some other reason. They also let it go cheap to these dealers. I did tell U the quality of JR! u missed that in my post? JR is a sister company of the GREAT Girard-Perregaux. guess U aren't familiar with Girard-Perregaux. Girard-Perregaux is up there with JLC/Patek/VC.. they make their own movements. to quality swiss made at least 51% of the parts must be made in Switzerland, assembled in swiss and regulated and case in swiss. JR 1000 may have a higher percentage since they have access to Sowind group manufacturing facilities. rest assured u are not getting a watch with quality that is avg. read all about "The man behind the brand Daniel jeanRichard" http://www.watchtime.com/2010/01/the-man-b...el-jeanrichard/ thanks for the explanation..yes, i am aware of JR's connection with GP and their infamous JR1000 movement... what i meant by quality was daily usage... toughness, etc, ...since you owned one, i was thinking of you sharing day to day user experience.., not so much on background of manufacturing..from your posts looks like your giving it a thumbs up...anyway, appreciate your insights This post has been edited by nando: Feb 22 2010, 10:50 AM |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Feb 22 2010, 10:57 AM) I see... its a dress what.. day to day wear no issue reported from my sibling. since it limited office/shopping/bus/train rides sorry, i meant famous (not in famous)if u intend to go swim with the crocodile, wrestle a bear, climb Mt Everest, or go Army training with it.. for a dress watch its not tough at that level. otherwise daily usage no worries.. as for infamous (having a reputation of the worst kind ) I am not aware of it care to share? since its infamous don't get it... Added on February 22, 2010, 11:00 am try watchuseek.com or watchnet.com i might not be as knowledgeable in watches as you but i think i am aware that the JR Bressel is not for swimming with crocodiles or dodging bullets in a war with Talibans. thanks anyway for the insight that its a reliable dress watch. QUOTE(patryn33 @ Feb 22 2010, 08:22 PM) hehehe.... thanks mate!..only thing i need to watch out for is if there's a problem in years to come...watches like this may cost a bomb to repair...an old 6497 or regular work horse 2824 are just reliable. its very hard to find a unreliable swiss movement as long as no manufacture defects. even a omega can go wrong if not handle well... just found someone reporting that his new omega is running 10mins faster in just 1-2 days of running. even an expensive JLC etc do have lemons at times. once its done right, no worries. anyway, i saw in JR website there is a JR office in KL...so should be okay.... anyway, here are the 4 models on sale....any comments from all the watch lovers here on the dial design...? all same movement and same specs (i think)...only dial design different... BTW..pics taken from the gray dealer website..hope its okay...(i am kind of doing free promo for him right? (hehehe) This post has been edited by nando: Feb 22 2010, 08:30 PM Attached image(s) |
