for the classic Flieger design, Stowa, Steinhart, Lacos and Archimede are 4 very popular brands...

Stowa is most expensive and takes longer time for delivery..their flieger model is only 40mm i think...but a lot of people (Stowa owners naturally) swore that the finishing is clearly better than the other 3...

the other 3 bands probably faster delivery time, definitely cheaper, and they have more options (dial size, chronographs, etc)...

U only need to take it in every 4-5yrs. for a mechanical Tag ~$200 and usually takes about 1-2week.
a quartz is every 3yrs, cost ~$30 and its a 30min job!

1) Longines is Tag's competitor.
2) Luminox ok... most watches are quartz. wouldn't rate it high along with Longines/Tag

Unitas? 6498/6497 they are not automatic all manual wind.
swiss movement and U want pwr reserve, i believe all the options are listed a few pages back. Thing is none of them are in PVD case in nando's 3K budget. if your budget is higher than his, there are of course 1-2 around.

its extremely hard to find chrono+pwr reserve combo watches.
when U say prefer are they optional options?
as for aviator are u looking for onion crown?

eg: Swiss Army Victorinox Airboss Mach 6 Power Gauge Limited Edition.
both chrono+pwr reserve+PVD+45mm case. cost wise ~US$4K
http://www.swissarmy.com/Timepieces/Pages/...&product=241308
Zenith will have it but u know the cost. its should be more than US$14K.
http://www.thewatchery.com/Zenith/Watches/...efy_Xtreme/Mens
Graham Swordfish PVD
Pam and Bell & Ross, U'll definitely find it.

not looking for complications.
Archimede Black Pilot: good value priced under EUR$450.
http://www.archimede-uhren.de/EN/Pilot-family.htm
Fortis, its PVD with day date, but 42mm case and no pwr reserve.
http://www.worldlux.com/cgi-bin/navigate.c...froogle_sponsor
Aristo PVD Pilot
Zeno (found a chrono+pwr reserve+date) don't have PVD, 44mm case, day.
http://www.zeno-watch.ch/en/watches.html
*
yep, yet to find Swiss movement with Power Reserve below 3k...Orient and Seiko has, but not Swiss movement...i didnt checked price of Hamilton Jazz master power reserve display.i think Mido also has model with power display but doubt can get for 3k...
in fact, cheapest i seen so far is the Ball Trainmaster Power Reserve...

I was like you when I was deciding on the carrera with date or DD. In the end I got myself the DD. For me the main difference is the size, and the usual date only version is too common IMHO. With the budget of around 10k, you actually do have a lot of choices smile.gif My DD runs +1 sec / day crown up and +- 0 when my dial facing up. That's what I can tell u bout the watch. Tho its not a chronometer, the accuracy is within the chronometer range. I was tempted by the omega speedmaster as well, but it just looks too small on my wrist. If anyone were to say every tom d*** and harry has it, he/she must have a lot of friends who are quite well to do eh? No offense taken.
patryn33: the Zenith El Primero doesn't look like a swatch, it reminds me of gerald genta sport without the subdials smile.gif
*
if you want to stand out the crowd but wear something different, you might want to consider the present Omega Planet Ocean series...especially the orange bezel ones...i think the bracelet model looks cool and yet elegant enough to be an interesting `conversation initiating' dress watch..good movement too....perhaps with nego and cash purchase, you can get it slightly below RM10k..

but of course, the below 10k version...dial is clean...no chrono ....

What I meant by preferably is I don't really mind if the watch don't have the feature/function but it'll be a plus if it has.
And as for the crown, onion or no onion is okay with me.  smile.gif

Thanks a lot for your recommendations, patryn33....the Swiss Army Victorinox Airboss Mach 6 Power Gauge Limited Edition you recommended looks great and I think it has almost all the requirements I wanted....however unfortunately the Swiss Army brand doesn't really appeal to me....like Tag, B&R and a few others (no offense to fans of the brands)...these are well established brands who produces fine watches but somehow for whatever reasons....the brand doesn't appeal to me.  hmm.gif

It ain't that easy finding the perfect watch I suppose!    blink.gif

Many thanks Jason! I've always liked the Oris BC4...wonder why it never crossed my mind before this!!  hmm.gif
Maybe I'll check it out at the shops this weekend!!  smile.gif

wah...cannot la khopl!!! the Oris Chronograph will make a widow out of your Aviator! tongue.gif

The Oris BC4 will easily set me back RM10k+ after discount!! But what to do....gatal....if nothing to do this weekend then maybe go 'look-see loo-see' la.  biggrin.gif

Maybe should just settle for the Steinhart Nav-B Chrono 47mm  hmm.gif

Talking about my Aviator....one of my friends said it looked like a Swatch at a glance!! %*#@#&!!!!   laugh.gif

i am not sure if Gurney can get 25% for the Planet OCean but there is a shop in KL that can let go the Planet Ocean for slightly less than 10k..

QUOTE(khopl @ Mar 2 2010, 08:25 PM)
Its not that the brand sounds cheap to me....but dunno how to explain la....like I can't see myself wearing the brand I guess. In fact, I quite like their design (Swiss Army)...plus I know that particular model has pretty good movement...quality and all. Well, like I said...the brand doesn't appeal to me. Like Tag...its doesn't sound cheap and it isn't cheap either....but it doesn't appeal to me. B&R too...Montblanc (don't mind their pens actually  smile.gif )...Longines too..to name a few.

Actually I just like that particular Oris....the BC4...the rest of their line, well not so much.

In fact, when I got the Ball Aviator, I was contemplating between Oris TT3 and Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronographe. The TT3 is titanium...really light...and I dunno...it feels plasticky to me...I mean the weight of course!  laugh.gif  I prefer something heavier I guess. I was really really tempted by the ML but then I was actually looking for something I can wear everyday...a 'workhorse' so to speak...and I don't think I can wear the ML everyday. So I finally settle for the Aviator...plus the sales person was going on and on about how great the lume is.  smile.gif  Well, after buying it...its now more like a 'retired horse' than a 'workhorse'!!!  laugh.gif

You asked which brand I have a thing for? Well, to be honest, there are a few brands that I stay away from (as mentioned above) as they don't appeal to me (again, no offense to any fans)....but I quite fancy IWC particularly the pilot models, Omega, Panerai, Sinn....sigh, if only can afford!!....but in general, I like Aviator/Pilot styled watches.  smile.gif

What about yourself...I gotta feeling you have a thing for Zenith.  smile.gif
*
i am worse....since November want to buy...till now still undecided.....everytime got see something new, change my mind.....but some people say its a good thing...a sign that i am not buying with impulse....so ..i'll wait...hopefully price dont go up too soon...

Patryn will tell you i am eyeing the Jean Richard 1665 now..with regulator and power display.....still wondering if i should make the kill (about RM 6.5k)....or use the $$ to get an Oris + Ball OR...save some more ( plus few more K) and go for the Planet Ocean....or.....maybe add few more k and get aOmega AquaTerra with 8500 co-axial!!

aRRGGHH!!!

yeah..Patryn seems to like Zenith a lot....perhaps the history of Zenith winning the chronograph race eh?

The Jean Richard 1665 looks seriously good! Which Oris and Ball are you eyeing at??

i used to be attracted to the Hunter Limited Edition
(the one on left)

I also like the Art Small Second Date Pointer...

and my favourite ball so far is the 46mm Aviator...(your `widow'..hahaha)

For those of you interested to buy watches in Euro currency (especially Stowa, Steinhart, Archi), you probably know the Euro is slightly weakened as compared to RM...
price of a Stowa now is about RM100 cheaper than end of last year..

@6.5K either get Jean Richard or add more ### and get the omega co-axial!!!!!!
get Oris + Ball both end up entry level, double the cost of servicing.
check around, hope this yr increase didn't happen yet.
....you read my mind!
but getting Oris and Ball together also meant having 2 watches ..haha

then there's headache of going for the present co-axial in the Planet Ocean...or the 8500...?

today I think Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra got the 8500 movement, with time maybe u see it in more models.
then again with time... prices go up too!!!

are U the kind who love 10 3K watches vs 1 30K watch?
*
interesting question....any watch lover should go for the 30k single piece..

but love has limits...For me..while i wont hesitate to go for a decent 4-5k swiss made instead of several RM300 watches...i will ask myself 1000000 times before choosing a single 30K piece or spread my money on several pieces...

I do admit that while i love watches and am thrilled by them, i am not really a die hard collector...

still bound economically by monthly commitments i guess.. smile.gif

everyone is bounded by economically and by monthly commitments (family, house mortgage, etc etc).
anyway my pt is are U the kind who will get a few entry level swiss made watches (oris, Ball, Tag etc) or a mid Lux watch (Omega, Cartier)
RM300 a bit too extreme here.. a few 3-5 RM3-4k over 1 RM12-20K.

user posted image

die hard collector would have brunch off to vintage watches and collect a certain type of watches.
I have see a die hard collector showing me a tin box filled with military style watches, some cheap like those Hamilton others a JLC/IWC. all no strap just case and further more free to bang at each other. that really wow me.
*
interesting pyramid there..

yes, everyone has monthly commitments...but not everyone can easily fork out >10 k for a watch in a blink...there is this thing about having the $$$$ and yet not having the `yes feeling' to buy.
Interestingly.....I have 2 friends whose wallets can afford 10-15k watches...one will not hesitate to spend it while the other will keep on asking if money can be spent for kids ballet +tennis class, smart schools, a larger LCD tv for whole family to watch...etc..
So both love watches, both have commitments, both have almost same economical strength.... smile.gif

as regard to your question...i think the answer depends on situation....
I think i'll probably go for a mid lux watch once or twice in coming years (unless i strike lottery la or a very very good out of universe deal comes in)...and i like to link it with a meaningful event....To me..that is one of the most beautiful thing about a time piece....something that correctly represent a significant event in life....

I love the Omega Planet Ocean for many reasons...and am thinking about going for it at end of year...(looking forward to an important event in my life...)....problem is the JR 1665 was advertised since early Feb...and at RM 6.4k..it looks like a good deal...

so..what about you? a single Zenith or perhaps 1-2 lesser ones? all the time?

but i think the pricing will reach the entry Omega Seamaster level or even more..Limited Edition some more! and 49mm!!! need to eat more vitamins and swallow more minerals!

hmmm....i think more people like Tag `design'...
as for Ball watches, its either you like it or not..especially the one you just showed...
As for quality, a lot of people seems to think Ball make good quality watches...

price/quality aside..ask yourself...can you look at the Ball dial everyday and still get excited? if yes, i think the Ball's the choice...

also, how often will you use the Tag subdials anyway?

most important...buy what YOU will like...all the best!

i find it funny that someone in the market to purchase a 50k watch (doesn't really matter MYR/USD/GBP) is posting in a forum... its just that i think he/she should already have an idea of what they want.

especially with that sort of budget.

just imo.

just pick up a 2010 Wristwatch Annual from major bookstores and you can drool over all the different expensive pieces and make your choice..

a way for me to learn resale value is to see some of the websites selling preowned...

There, they will tell what is the current selling price and original price when bought brand new...

of course, being business people, i suspect the pricing are adjusted to boost their sales...

but i guess in general, you can see the Rolexes and Panerai are quite steady in terms of resale value..other brands too i think..

Google for

I couldn't agree more, best is check out pre-own dealers. eg passions.com.sg ebronzeage.com

however the above in Bold I don't really get it. u mean prices adjust down to boost sales?

when ppl talk about resale value cold only mean 2 things.
- selling it privately online thru WUS/timezone etc
- selling it thru these dealers. dealers wanna make $$ priced u sell to them definitely lower than whats listed.

Rolex is steady... Pam.. i doubt it... when US Econ is strong, preown pammy was sold higher than their retail prices by a good 5-15%! today preown are sold at 5-15% down from their retail prices. If the hype didn't hold up... resale value drop drop drop.

Added on March 12, 2010, 11:59 am

true! not a rolex fan... has the 2 tone prices sky rocketed?
rolex discontinued sea dweller replacing it with deepsea and prices went up very high for awhile almost immed. today not sure whats the deal out there.
*
what i mean is maybe the true retail price is 10k..(after discount) .and current preowned value is 5k...

but to make their advertisement more attractive..they may say current retail price is > 10k....and they may also say market price of preowned is >5k...just to make their deal looks good...not accusing them of being dishonest...just marketing strategy..
