There's always a risk involved when buying 2nd hand stuff thingy coz u're paying cheaper price. Better find one that the warranty still valid so that you can claim from Maxis(singtel) if anything goes wrong with the phone.

yup..it is under warranty by Singtel as it was bought during the launch day..

i'll probably do some normal check like calling..testing the screen..physical dmg/scratches...wireless connections..sound..camera...anything else ??

and in order to warranty to be valid, make sure that it has not be subjected to any water accidents before.

check the Liquid Submersion Indicator thoroughly.

come on, you don't have to use an iPhone to know how to read right?

i believe the explanation on the apple website is more than sufficient for you to comprehend with ease.

wow, just when i thought such a highly subjective question will never appear.

there are so many elements to consider from, and i'm probably just naming a handful...

1. local warranty?
2. full 12 months warranty coverage?
3. the decreased probability of purchasing a stolen unit?
4. the euphoric feeling of opening the packaging?
5. the joy of not using a used unit?
6. the confident level of the unit hasn't been abused, dropped, been in some dodgy places (yes, i have friends dropping phones down the squad down toilet before) ?
7. the thought of the unit previously used as sexual vibrator?
8...
9...
10...

and now weight those pros/cons against your RM499.

Added on August 29, 2009, 5:27 pmthe way you perceive the value of RM499, is different from how i perceive it.

Let me give my 2 sen worth.

On your first question, google for an answer. You would in every likelihood find it. Then, on your problem.....you either be more diligent or just buy new sets with warranty. It's as simple as that.

At the rate Maxis offer the phone with call plan, its almost no brainer of buying a jailbreak, grey import, or used. This is more so for folks considering any mid-high end touch screen phone which cost easily 1.3k onward to 2+k....

With only 12 months plan at Ivalue 2 of RM155 permonth, its only 1790 or 1290 for 24 months. If you are heavy phone user, even better. Go for Ivalue 3 and get it cheaper for iphone.

And getting Iphone without data plan is a suicide plan! Iphone by design is data intensive gadgets which is why all coutries selling them with data plan. Even the lowly ivalue 1 from Maxis come with 500mb worth of data... which is about 13-14mb daily or 1gb for ivalue 2 which come with 80 dollar worth of call and 12cents per min.

If you buy own iphone, you need to subsribe P80 and RM58 data plan for 500mb. That is already 138 vs 155 where you get a subsidized iphone for 1290 or 1790. If you can get Australia unlock unit at less than 1.8k for 16gb, then its worth the effort given the out lay is the same with no commitment. Otherwise just take 12 month plan. How often you change your mobile carrier anyway....

not really a suicide if u dont have data plan, u just have to know the right button to switch off... i've been using without data plan (since i bought it outright) using my prepaid.... all good... even sometimes my friends or myself tend to accidentally push internet-using-apps, but still... ive made it....

however you have to remember that for majority of the working class population, they are using some sort of "company mobile phone/line" and therefore switching over to another network may not be feasible.

companies typically get special corporate rates and they may not rival maxis' iPhone packages and implying that they are not financially sensible.
