Okay, bought some stuff to use for a quick fix for my A700 that had no where to hook my new DX mic

First off is the adhesive from 3M. This is a removable adhesive similar to the ones you use for clothes hooks behind your doors. Well the scientist at 3M have this spectacular product that allows you to remove the adhesive tape safely without peeling paint. The product I bought came with tiny hooks to secure small cables. Bought it at Tesco for RM10.90.

Next is to apply the adhesive and the hook to my ATH-A700. It's small but I wish it came in black because to he honest, it looks ugly. Luckily I only wear this headphones at home.

And lastly to properly secure the mic. The flexible hook was pushed forward a little and then squeeze it into the 3M hook to properly secure it. This is not a permanent fixture which is why I use removable adhesive, Mic can be removed without removing the 3M adhesive or hook. So basically I made a fixture to fix my mic when I need one. Final product as below.

It ain't pretty but it the mic works and I still get the best audio I can afford currently. thumbup.gif

Fixture is stable as long as you have somewhere to hang the headphone like I did. cool.gif

And in case you're wondering where you can get the cool looking headstand. Its actually a banana holder. I bought it at Daiso for RM5. icon_rolleyes.gif

Comments and questions are welcomed.

Hmmmm, looks like a damned good plan to me. Probably going to do the exact same thing as you did. But have you tested it where you shook your head and see if it remains attached?

And Thanks bro for showing us all this!

Managed to test the mic I bought from DX.com.

Made a simple video to compare with my Razer mic. Links in the video.

Personal conclusion is that the DX mic works great but it has no noise reduction feature. This is the main reason the Razer mic sounds slightly softer but it has no back ground noise. Also I turned on mic boost for both mics I tested to ensure I can capture my voice properly although this might make the captured sound a bit grainy.

is there any hissing sound ? like a sound if fan directly onto your face and your breath ? and if in gaming you choose an option to press a key to turn on your mic right ?

Yes, I tried head banging and side to side shake with my A700. The mic is steady, but my headphone is the one shaking. biggrin.gif So no problem with the attachment as long as you don't knock it out of place.

In gaming or whatever reason, yes I always use Push To Talk. This is desirable if there is more than 2 person talking and no one wants to hear my constant breathing.

Hissing sound, no. But I do realise if the 3.5mm is not properly connected, it will have a constant static sound when you talk on the mic. Securing it to the port tightly solves this matter.

Later tonight going to test on my other PC this time connect to the motherboard integrated audio ALC892. See how it goes.

Anyway, was wondering I could just make the hook like a clip and clip it on the side headband since there's a little gap there as seen on this pic.

No ler, doesn't come in black. Was hoping it did, but I guess I can color it black with a marker pen.

Attached it my HD681.

Testing it on my motherboard ALC892, the recorded voice is softer. A mic boost from the Realtek software only increased the residual background static/noise. Because there is no quick way to manually turn off the mic, I prefer it without the mic boost. I guess the software from Asus is much better as I did no get the same static when I mic boost via the Xonar DG.

For those with headphones that has a removable cable, the best mic to get is probably the Vmoda boompro mic - http://v-moda.com/boompro-microphone/

Currently using it with my Fidelio X1. Once again, why pay for gaming headsets? biggrin.gif

Unfortunately my Sennheiser HD558s have their own proprietary 2.5mm removable jacks, so I don't think the Boom Pro works on my headset. Thanks for the recommendation though. But a bit expensive at $30USD.

On my HD558, I used to just clip the DX lapel mic onto its cable and call it a day - http://dx.com/p/mini-clip-on-microphone-7080

If you have read the last few pages you would have noticed that I have indeed already ordered a Mic from DX as well through Yagami5159, pending shipment arrival and COD. biggrin.gif

Dude, you've been in LYN longer than me. Hahahahaha. tongue.gif

Basically you just use two brackets, which is [ ]

And put a @ with the person's name inside the bracket like for example @Yagami5159, and you're done.

Alrighty. PM me when it arrives. rclxms.gif

For $2 you get a mic as good as any gaming headset, you do the calculation. smile.gif

Just make sure to apply mic boost.
