@joyyy, thanks.

@TheWandererX, I have shortlisted my list to D60 and D80 now. Might come back with more questions about these 2 models. Btw, where can I post those questions like "what's the biggest different between these two models from a beginner's point".
*
You asked at the right place =D
I guess by now you would've more or less know each of their technical specs. So I'm once again gonna give a personal opinion on this question of yours. smile.gif
From a total beginner's point-of-view, the 2 cameras are more or less identical.
It's only when you start to venture into various lenses that you realise that the D60 is quite short-ended. Since the D60 doesn't have an AF motor in its body, you would have to get lenses with AF motors in them, and that will be a little more expensive.
The D80 on the other hand, does come with an internal motor.
All that being said, I don't think I'll advise you on which model to get, you can do it better yourself smile.gif

Thanks for the prompt reply.

So I believe that's the biggest difference between these two. I would need AF, build-in or with lens (actually difference between these two type of AF is...? speed wise, operation wise etc?) Ok let me think about it and I might post what I have eventually decided to buy.

Thank you once again.
*
I believe they are the same or have little difference between them. Operation-wise, they both do exactly the same thing, which is obviously autofocusing.
The only thing Nikon entry-level fanboys might say is that since the D80's AF motor is located within the body, if it spoils, you cant use AF anymore. But that argument is far-fetched at most. ohmy.gif

@joyyy and TheWandererX

I just came back from 1utama, there's a shop selling the D60 with kitlens + nikon bag + 4gb card + cheap tripod at RM2288. Is it a good buy? Understand that you guys might not know the pricing for a certain model, just asking.
*
I might not be up-to-date with the pricing of the D60, but I still think that the price quoted to you is too expensive.
Here check this thread out. http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=Sear...ts&highlite=D60
Most of them got their package for around RM1900, which makes yours really expensive.
I'd suggest going to Lowyat or Sungei Wang to scout for your camera, since there are more shops and it will be easier to compare prices there. smile.gif

For best shuttle quality, I would suggest getting a Yonex Aerosensa 2 Tournament Grade. smile.gif

Ok srsly,
I dont think you should get a second hand d70. Either get a new D80 or the D60. The D70 kinda outdated sad.gif

and also the functionality...

If you're just looking for a good camera to shot photos, they both do the same thing.
The D80 is still more expensive than the D60, I find that its more expensive pricing worth it =/ At least more worth it that the 450D over the 1000d. =D

I heard that lens for sony alpha will be more expensive compare with nikon.. but then body for nikon will be slightly expensive than sony alpha.. in long term..nikon will be more economic right?

Trust me, no one brand is more "economical" in the long run.
Once you've commited to investing in lenses, you'd bound to be spending a lot of money on lenses and other what-nots.

Okay..you've basically got your choices right. Just something to add, you might want to include the Sony A200 in your list. I personally like the A200 very much and at around RM1500, it's a grab =D
All DSLRs more or less produce quality images with low noise. Now it's up to you to personally test out those cameras and see which one you prefer over the other.

Any specific features u want? :
1.) im a completely noob in photography and my current camera is the first generation touch screen Sony cybershot (very lousy)
2.) lookin for a camera that i can easily take great shots (like those pro DSLR users)
3.) something that can stabilise image during movement.
4.) i travel alot and i hope for a great camera that can capture those moments.
*
You dont really get the point of DSLRs dont you.
A DLSR will not guarantee you "great shots". It's how you utilize the camera that will produce great results.
But then, if you insist on getting a DSLR, I would suggest you to do more research on DSLRs and get some idea on the models that you want. sad.gif

It's hard to find a proper sub-100 DSLR bag. Most weather resistant bags are normally priced in the RM200-400 range. >__<
I'm personally looking at the Lowepro Inverse series icon_idea.gif

Like TheWandererX said, I would also be against the purchase of the D40 since it's old technology. Not to say that it is bad, but with that price, you could get yourself a newer model, like the A200. Everything about the A200 says its better than the D40, exept the brand.
Add a little more cash, and you'll be looking at the Canon 1000d or the Nikon D60.

If you want the camera with the best performance-to-price ratio, then you're looking at the Sony A200. If you're looking at availability of lenses, Sony does have a wide variety of lenses to suit most shooting styles, but, Canon and Nikon does have the advantage of having a wider range of lenses.

Or, if you like the DSLR-ish design, you could try looking at superzooms.

Hi, I am in dilemma in choose Canon 400D(body only), Canon 450D(body Only) and Nikon D60. Some of the camera shop owner told me that Nikon D60 is suitable for the landscape shooting. However canon is more to the portrait shooting. I am wondering is that true? Which one i should go for it? After a trip back from Hong Kong, my current camera can't fulfill my needs anymore. thanks for advice.
*
There's no such thing as to what type of photography a brand is "more suitable" at.
The only thing that determines that is the lens itself. If you've got a super telephoto lens on a D60, I wouldn't say it's very suitable for landscape shootings.
Wide angle lenses are more suitable for landscape shooting, and both brands do have their range of wide angle lenses.

It doesn't. It only allows you to review the pictures that you've taken, it doesn't allow for real-time viewing.

Compare below 2 camera, which one is more worthy?
Canon 1000D+4GB+tripod+bag = RM1999
Canon 450D+4GB+tripod+bag = RM2699
(Just a few different from spec, but $ wise different a lot)

How u guy think about Sony A300? Bcoz it looks more worth for money if compare the spec from paper.
*
I'd rather take the 1000D and use the extra RM700 to get a flash or an extra lens =D
Those little advantage the 450D has over the 1000D isn't going to be significant.

Well like i said, the users of Nikon n Canon can't seem to accept Sony's entry to the DSLR's market. One should know that Sony bought over Konica Minolta, so there was a development from there already, not a total n00b footing in DSLR. Each camera has their pros & cons, so just weigh it accordingly to your preferences. Go touch n feel it. Like me, i used to be a total n00b in DSLR 1month ago, but i'm proud to say, i do read a lot and progress since then. IMO, when i tested the 1000d, it was too light for my liking, the weight distribution wasn't balance, and when u fit for eg a 75-300mm, it will only get worst. Build quality wasn't that good either, on the other hand, the A200 felt solid n fits my grip comfortably. my point is, try to look things in a neutral way, read unbiased reviews/judgements/input and decide for urself
*
Quoted for truth.
I myself am a Canon user, but I always encourage people to look at the A200.
Unlike what toblerone said, I on the other hand think that Sony PnS are lousy and not worth a second look.
It's good to know that Konica Minolta ventured into the DSLR market earlier than both Canon and Nikon, which followed suit only a few years later. doh.gif

Your 1000D or A200?

Like what kucingfight said, we third party people can only say so much about a certain model. At the end it's still up to you to decide which model you like more.
I personally chose the Canon over the A200, but other people may choose otherwise.
I would say, if the budget is tight, then you could look at the A200. But if you've got enough budget, you could start looking at the D60 or 1000D. These DSLRs are very close in terms of performance. I wont say that any particular brand is far better than other brands.

I personally believe that there is no "better alternatives", there's only "better preferences".
If you personally prefer the A300 over the other cameras, you wouldnt be as happy if you got another camera just because other forumers give you a "better alternative" and you decide to follow it.
So, it's still better to follow your own preference rather than others'
