Hi,

Type of camera/lens/accesories : Prosumer/DSLR
Budget: RM1.5k - RM2.7k
Your Location: KL
Preferable brand : None
Type of photography u want to do : Mostly landscape
Any specific models in mind? : Panasonic LX-3, Canon 450d
Any specific features u want? : Wide angle

Have been using Powershot S3 for 2 years++, want to go further with photography. The reason i want to change to dslr is because of its sensor size ( better output at higher ISO compared to compact camera ) and flexibility of changing lens based on needs. But I am kind of attracted to LX-3 wide angle and smaller size too. Can I have your recommendations please?

want the best landscape with ultra wide angle? of course a prosumer will be no match with a DSLR... but u will need to invest a lot more on lens... u will save a lot for the cheapest C1kD for under 2k with a lot of freebies but the UWA lens itself (Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM) will cost u bout 2.4k... its all up to u

Compare below 2 camera, which one is more worthy?
Canon 1000D+4GB+tripod+bag = RM1999
Canon 450D+4GB+tripod+bag = RM2699
(Just a few different from spec, but $ wise different a lot)

How u guy think about Sony A300? Bcoz it looks more worth for money if compare the spec from paper.

I'd rather take the 1000D and use the extra RM700 to get a flash or an extra lens =D
Those little advantage the 450D has over the 1000D isn't going to be significant.

Hi, guys. First of all, I'm a newbie to the DSLR scene. I've seen quite a few camera's pop up in this thread and one which interested me was the Sony A200. The only thing is, if I'm not mistaken, it doesn't have live view, which is a sort of downside for me. Wondering what recommendations you guys can give me. Thanks in advance. smile.gif

I recommend you to go for the 1000D as a starter first. Learn up, and then when you want to upgrade, get the 40D/50D. That's your best bet. Use the RM700 (topup a bit) to get a 55-250mm lens and you have an all-range kit.

First DSLR? Then I'd recommend the 1000D - it's the best starter kit you should get. RM2k.

If you can afford RM2k, go for the 1000D/D60, they're far better over the a200. Anyway, live view is sort of a supplementary item - so if you don't have it you'll still do fine.

Overall, the D60/1000D performs best in the entry-level range.

PnS is a normal camera for all-use. Prosumer has more PRACTICAL functions than the PnS, like manual shutter/aperture, etc.

Try going for the Panasonic Lumix FZ28 or if you can bump your budget up, get the Lumix LX3.

Heard that the price has increased for new stock. I recommend you to get it now.

I have a question about the 1000d. It says that it doesn't have spot metering, what is that and how can it be useful (or not) in practice? Thanks!

Spot metering, taken from wikipedia:

QUOTE
Spot metering is very accurate and is not influenced by other areas in the frame. It is commonly used to shoot very high contrast scenes. For example, if the subject's back is being hit by the rising sun and the face is a lot darker than the bright halo around the subject's back and hairline (the subject is "backlit"), spot metering allows the photographer to measure the light bouncing off the subject's face and expose properly for that, instead of the much brighter light around the hairline. The area around the back and hairline will then become over-exposed. Spot metering is a method upon which the zone system depends.

I don't think I need that.

for a people that is new to photography u dun need this spot metering... normally u will only set it to evaluative metering... try to discover others simple functions on ur dslr 1st b4 try this setting because this is normally for professionals... because 1000D is a entry level dslr so canon insist not to include this function on it...
