Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR
Budget: RM2K-3K
Your Location: KL
Preferable brand : Canon/Nikon/Sony
Type of photography u want to do : use for event and travel, Potraits?
Any specific models in mind? : Canon 1000D / 450D, Sony A300
Any specific features u want? : live view.
Compare below 2 camera, which one is more worthy?
Canon 1000D+4GB+tripod+bag = RM1999
Canon 450D+4GB+tripod+bag = RM2699
(Just a few different from spec, but $ wise different a lot)
How u guy think about Sony A300? Bcoz it looks more worth for money if compare the spec from paper.
I recommend you to go for the 1000D as a starter first. Learn up, and then when you want to upgrade, get the 40D/50D. That's your best bet. Use the RM700 (topup a bit) to get a 55-250mm lens and you have an all-range kit.

First DSLR? Then I'd recommend the 1000D - it's the best starter kit you should get. RM2k.

Hi, guys. First of all, I'm a newbie to the DSLR scene. I've seen quite a few camera's pop up in this thread and one which interested me was the Sony A200. The only thing is, if I'm not mistaken, it doesn't have live view, which is a sort of downside for me. Wondering what recommendations you guys can give me. Thanks in advance.

If you can afford RM2k, go for the 1000D/D60, they're far better over the a200. Anyway, live view is sort of a supplementary item - so if you don't have it you'll still do fine.
Overall, the D60/1000D performs best in the entry-level range.
