I agree with you. But maybe it depends on the shop we're getting it from. Some businesses have no ethics and are out to cheat consumers. I bought my ancient SE P990i back in May 2007 (yes, I switched off the phone to check out the details cos it has been so long that I forgot when I actually got it).
It's an AP set which cost about RM200-300 cheaper than the original I think. There's Plantronics sticker, MTM Marketing sticker and SIRIM sticker. The shop informed that it's Singapore AP set and when I check based on IMEI it's correct. I've managed to update my firmware using SEUS update & checking online shows it's a Singapore region h/p with Chinese input support. I'm still using it right now cos I've been waiting for it to kaput, but it's still functioning well (except for the famous issue with P990i lack of ram when you have too many programs running). The picture quality is good and using the flash as torch is great.
Even the battery that came together is the original that came with the phone. The original charger (which has extra 'outlet' behind to allow connection of headset while charging the phone) malfunctioned last year & I've replaced with cheap charger bought from one of the shops in Low Yat. My h/p last 2-3 days since I don't use it much for calls. If i read ebooks non-stop, then it can last only 1 day (ie continuous reading of about 5-8 hours). Since I'm used to the stylus, I'm thinking of replacing the phone with a Galaxy Note (either 1 or 2) when it can't be used anymore. For the moment I'm considering removing the flip of the phone for a new look. I do wish SE would come out with a good successor for P990i (the current Xperia range doesn't have stylus).
Anyway if I'm getting a new h/p, I'm tempted to get AP set if it's cheaper. My only concern is which reputable shop to get it from. It would be good if anyone has bought AP sets recently could share the details of the shop they got it from, it'd make the thread more beneficial for everyone.

AP set price difference is usually around RM200-300. Anything more than that (esp. more than half) is very suspicious. Nowadays so many fake China phones that looks so similar to Samsung. Since android software is used by most phones nowadays, it may be quite difficult to check authenticity of the phone - stickers can be fake too That's why if can afford, I'd consider iPhone to be a better choice cos so far China phones not able to fake the Apple's iOS. Too bad it doesn't have a bigger screen. iPad mini would be good if it can handle GSM calls.

Yes it is true. Iphone is for affordable person. Well maybe someone want to buy a new HP, he must buy at authorised dealer,shop, that have warranty from AP or Ori itself. Don't buy from another person who said, he is helping his buddy for selling that FAKE item. I have my friend been like that, for sure I advise him for not to cheat people with his noob sell prices item. haha. serves them right!

Yes it is true. On my knowledge too, Diffrence AP and ORI is only the WARRANTY only. ALL products AP and ORI is approved by SIRIM and safe to use and got genuine parts.

Ap set could be sg, hk, us, uk..etc
Everytime stock come from diff countries 1..

I got my LG Viewty Smart and found the phone IMEI is the same as the box. And the set was from UK.
That was in year 2010.

So.. having said that, I would say it's original in UK but AP in Malaysia..?

googled it and found out it's either from 1 of these countries
1. US
2. Finland
3. Brazil

And it's rated as FAIR QUALITY. So we're both fine.

If got international Apple warranty then it's ori. If not then maybe AP. I think.
