I have tested about 4 2.5" hdd from 40GB to 250GB, none of mine can spin down by WDTV. Even the WD brand itself.

U guys do know that spindown does not equal to shut down right? Most drives will still have their LED status ON even after the drive have spun down. The important thing is that the drive HAS spun down. LED status is irrelevant.
*
QUOTE(podrunner @ Apr 27 2009, 05:22 PM)
Yup, the LED on my WD passport is "on", but drive doesn't spin. Before the latest firmware update, you can still feel it "buzzing" eventhough player is already "off".
*
The WDTV even thou remotely switch off (not switch off the plug), when plug-in the hdd, you can see the read/write LED will blinking. Look like WDTV still read the hdd even in off mode. I test with a few hdd, same results.

Here what I do:
I put WDTV in off mode, then I plug my 250GB Hitachi drive, the LED blinking non stop. When I switch on the WD, I can see a message on TV saying I need xxxMB free space for media library. That mean, in off mode, WDTV still work, just the video and audio output is off.

I wonder why WDTV need so much free space when media library is on. My 250gb need to have 935MB free space. That space can use for one movie already lor... doh.gif

This 250GB hdd have 2 partition and the 1st partition only have 200MB free, WDTV refuse to resume and giving me a warning. There 1 partition still have more than 200GB free, so I can say not much files inside the hdd yet. I cannot move files or format the 1st partition cos that partition have restore files for my notebook. I might want to use that partition for restoring if anything happen to my Vista. sweat.gif

Same thing happen to my 300GB hdd, I getting same error (150MB needed), after delete some file, WDTV manage to catalog all file to media library. When I check the media library file only use less than 20MB. rclxub.gif

Media Library - All Media files appear in one list regardless of which folder they are in.

Folder View - Media files appear in folders.

I prefer to turn Media Library off so that all the files appear in folders - easier to navigate.
*
Media Library sometime useful. Easy for my family to browse for song by album or by artist. For movie I prefer to browse via folder cos I sort by category in my hdd...

QUOTE(Maniac @ Apr 28 2009, 01:14 PM)
OK then I need to turn off Library view.
Dont think I need them biggrin.gif  Coz i usually navigate via folder.
*
I also prefer browse via folder but.... (see my answer above...)

After upgrading a few times, I need to delete .wdtv in all my hdd to refresh the library... some file appear 2 times in the library after the upgrade...

At this price, I double agreed on the features & performances offered also.
Just buy it if you need a HD capable media player with limited budget.
*
Agree with you. This is the cheapest player available with HD and digital audio capable. The best I have now.

Cheapest but pretty good. Picture better than Dvico 4100 (after doing side by side comparison). For sound, no complaints but perhaps dvico has more features for HD sound. If you look at AVS forum, this seems to be the hottest HD Media player over in the US as well.
*
Bro, Dvico or WDTV popular at US? I didn't follow AVS forum...

My notebook have HDMI and can do full HD but I still prefer to use WDTV as it more convenience.

Yer lor, happen to me, suddently one pin in my HDMI bend... no signal lor... use another cable OK. I thought WDTV problem.

Normally, if HDMI cable OK, no need to use composite cable at all even during initial setup, just plug HDMI, then switch ON TV first, then WDTV.

Try to reset the WDTV.

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ May 11 2009, 11:48 PM)
I just bought my unit a few days back, I'm still exploring it and is the highlighted sentence refers to d display pictures on the folders? There is a function whereby v can browse the movies by thumbnails.. is there any special file format that I should put on the pictures? The pictures i managed to get are approximately 25kb. Currently I just modify the folder options of the files whereby I set it to thumbnail views with selected pictures but it still doesn't show in d thumbnail mode. Thanks in advance.  rclxub.gif

Follow this:

QUOTE
For Folder Thumbnails:
Music:
1. Display folder.JPG (the image file must be named “folder.JPG” or thumbnail will not function)
2. If no folder.JPG file is found, display the first album art image (.MP3 with embedded..JPG)
3. If no album art is available, display the first .JPG in the folder
Photo:
1. Display folder.JPG
2. If no folder.JPG file is found, display the first photo in the folder
Video:
1. Display folder.JPG
2. If no folder.JPG file is found, display the first cover art (.MP4 with embedded .JPG)
3. If no cover art is available, display the first photo in the same folder as the video to be played
For File Thumbnails:
Music:
1. Display album art (.MP3 file with embedded .JPG)
2. If no album art is available, display the image file with the same name as the audio file to be played. (for
example, song.wav will be associated with song.JPG)
Photo:
1. Display thumbnail
Video:
1. Display .MP4 with embedded .JPG
2. Display image file associated with the video file to be played (for example video.mkv will be associated
with video.JPG)

hi all, need help here..anyone know where 2 find a replacement remote 4 d wdtv?
*
Alternative 1: There is but come with price. I not saying RM10 - RM20 one... At least RM200+. So far what I know only Logitech Harmony remote will have the preset for WDTV. I using Logitech Harmony 885 universal remote now for all my devices including WDTV.

Alternative 2: You can buy a cheaper learning remote but need to get a working one first from another WDTV user to teach your new remote.

Last one: buy from WD shop http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdus...uctID.108411300

QUOTE(eldiablo79 @ May 12 2009, 09:45 PM)
i think so..the batteries were leaking n it's not working ever since.
*
You use cheapo batteries? Normal only if not use for long time, battery will leak. If leaking, normally some of the circuit will burn or cut off. That would be able to fix by soldering with a small wire. If possible you can open and post the inside look. Maybe I can help. Better can sent it to me.

QUOTE(DigitalKL @ May 19 2009, 08:39 AM)
I always have this problem (even when just bought since last year) -

My WDTV is connected using HDMI to my Plasma TV. When I turn them both on, sometimes (many times) I get the "no-sync detected" signal. No sync on my TV means like no connection or no video signal coming in.

Alot of times when I first turn it on, I can see the WD logo then poof, goes to "no sync". I have to un-cucuk the HDMI cable, on/off WDTV or TV, do a few things before I can get everything working again.

Sometimes I would get vertical lines spaces evenly apart across the screen also and solved by doing the same thing as above.

My HDMI cable is by Giraffe. I cant try another cable cause my TV is hung on the wall and I cant get another cable in unless someone helps me. Unfortunately my TV is zaman dulu wan so no extra HDMI port at the front or side.

It looks like my WDTV sometimes cant auto detect my connection. I had this problem the day I bought it (read the beginning pages). I didnt get it repair because the problem is intermittent. I dont want to send it back unless it totally wont work.

Anyone else encounter this problem?
*
Always happen to me after I start using a really thick and hard to bend HDMI cable (not sure consider expensive one or not, I bought during warehouse sale). After showing the WD logo, then my TV didn't detect any signal. Need to 'main-main' the cable. I didn't bother to ask this problem here, I thought my cable got problem cos one of pin bend before, but I manage to put it back. Time to get a new cable. My TV also wall mounted but can change the cable anytime I like.

QUOTE(kimi @ May 19 2009, 10:10 AM)
i read somewhere mentioning that the WD hdmi port is a little deep, so some hdmi cable the pins maybe barely touching, reason for the sometimes ok sometimes not ok
some people shave the hdmi cable rubber off so that the cable con go in further - im sure u dun want to do that on an expensive hdmi cable
*
I might agree with you, when I use cap ayam cable before, never had problem my LCDTV didn't detect the signal. Only after I change to a new one.

I need to get Gillette or Shick to shave my cable too.... laugh.gif

I think it is normal. Don't worry about it. Don't be too anxious. The WDTV requires a small amount of time to read the harddisk. The moment you on your lcd & the wdtv, leave them be for a few moments. Don't fiddle with yr remote. Hehe!!
*
Bro even, without HDD connected also having the problem.. it's not because the HDD, it's the cable.
