The whole idea of having a player is NOT TO CONVERT FILES. Why waste time converting all the TVB HK DRAMAS with so many episodes???

I have an RMVB player...but no use...collecting dust...lol.

WDTV is nice, but nothing beats a real HTPC. smile.gif
*
To suite all your need... buy WDTV, RMVB player, TIVO and.....
same idea like some people to have PS2, PS3, Wii, XBOX... cos want to play all game...

My idea getting WDTV is to have cheap player than can play most of popular movie format....
if only RMVB is the left over format... then convert lor...

Thank you! The hacked firmware works. I now am playing my Transformers 720p off the Samsung external DVD-RW drive. Flawlessly I might say. smile.gif

That good results but can revert back to original firmware or not later.

Anyone connected your wd-tv to a home theater system yet? How is the connection going to be like? Home theater <-- WD-TV --> HD-TV??
*
Here my setup.
WDTV --> LCDTV = HDMI
WDTV --> Onkyo AVR = digital coax

Both LCDTV and AVR have sound.

When I upgrade to latest version, my WDTV resolution set to Auto and output HDMI but the resolution is look like 320 x 240 cos I cannot read any of the character. Lucky I can remember the menu sequence to change the resolution. After that back to normal. Anybody experience this issue?

my WDTV was hand delivered by avenger to my house at Pg from SP!  What a service!  Guess what, the 1st chaplang HDMI cable (RM 39) was defective and my pana LCD refused to display anything after the WDTV booting.  After 1hour troubleshooting,we gave up and went to buy another chaplang cable (RM 45) to try, happy story!

Now i need to decide which firmware to flash biggrin.gif

the WDTV is now connected to 32" Pana 720p LCD via HDMI, then TOSLINK to my old Yamaha RXV459.
*
If moderator bought my item, sure I hand deliver... brows.gif

Flash with the latest one la... all improvements inside already.

I use a better HDMI cable, the cable so thick and cannot bend much, it's make my WDTV cannot properly align with other device. Use cap ayam, WDTV won't move....

Not sure everyone notice or not, while browsing (by file or thumbnail), press next will advance 1 page. Eject time also faster than 1.01 firmware.

ps:- For those use Logitech Harmony remote, WDTV remote setting ready to be loaded to the remote.

If you read back 10 pages, sure can find the price... Maybe I can give live price update from lowyat plaza tomorrow like I did before.

Even I do reply to a new post, I still read all previous pages start from page 1, right now stop at page 55.
If nothing to reply, I keep continue my reading.

1.0.2.07 Fixed items:

* Added option to toggle subtitle default to 'On' or 'Off'

* Added subtitle outline thickness selection

* Added hard drive spindown on WDTV power off

Really waiting for this fix... no more hot hdd... normally after late night movie... really lazy to wake up to unplug hdd or switch off wdtv power.

Exarkun - thanks for keep monitoring the latest firmware...

WDTV really 'pasang telinga' to the user.... price sure up...

Viewnet at lowyat plaza still have a lots. Price 369 but didn't mention about hdd stand at the box fine print. My own box have that. I just went there this evening.

Added on April 23, 2009, 10:50 pmFinish upgrade to 07 without any flaw this time. Resolution back to auto. My hard disk still spinning after turn off by remote but I think slower than before. Is that spinning down claim by WD?

At the front of the box where u can see the WDTV picture, u will find a small print as below.

"My Passport™ portable drive sold separately."
AND
"My Passport™ portable and stand sold separately."

Now, u should know which is which. biggrin.gif

Lo.. I only look at the top of the box... maybe will look again later...

QUOTE(Exarkun @ Apr 24 2009, 01:54 AM)
Just read this at AVS Forum:

GuyWD:
This is normal. We're not turning off the USB bus power. Instead, we're just telling the drives to spin down. This is why some models of external drive don't spin down - they might not support the spindown command.

GuyWD is from Western Digital. He's interacting with AVS Forum users on the firmware issues.
*
I just read about Spindown command. Not all external hdd will accept this command correctly. Even in Linux some user need to create a script to make it happen.

I guess my hdd is 'some' of them. I test 2 hdd, both PATA. Didn't try my SATA hdd yet. Forgot to bring back home last night.

QUOTE(EightPhantomz @ Apr 24 2009, 09:05 AM)
This is a very good reason to get WD drive instead of other brands. To be safe.
*
Offcourse WD will test using their own hdd first...

I got WD blue notebook hdd but no casing right now to test.

Just got back from LY. It' still RM369 in Thundermatch, with free KFC voucher. And yes, there are easily 100s of 'em wink.gif I believe Viewnet should be more or less around that price. Can't recall. Been to too many stores.

Anyway I got the new version without stand, and with matte black remote. Just to clarify, besides the minor cosmetic difference, and the stand, are there any other differences between them? Functions & features wise? etc?

I think they changed to matte black cuz the shiny surface was a magnet for thumbprints. Other than that, it should be the same device.
*
Function and features should be the same... except cannot put WD hdd to stand laugh.gif
