HELP!!! my sister bought a new guinea pig , abysinian , rather small compared to my current one , we tried mixing them , and it seems like the big one is afraid of the small one at first , now the big one is like protecting the small one from us grabbing it ! are there really in love or are they gonna fight ?

I'm busy with moving house during the new year eve.  Now at least things are cleared and internet connectivity is up and running.  Still have some stuff not cleared, at least will take another week to settle down everything.

Now I have a small garden for my GPs to roam freely when we wash their cages.  Garden size is 19 ft (L) x 4 ft (W).  Plenty of space for them to roam if I put all 15 GPs in there.

wauuuuu....the garden is nice and i think i know where is our venue for GPs garthering already tongue.gif ....if you dont mind....hehehehe....

Jason, i found the venue for GPs garthering....if Juztiny dont mind....

yeah , the big one is 2 times bigger than the small one , the big guy is blocking us from grabbing the small one , but we forcefully separated them , i havent check their gender , cause one is too afraid , the other is my sisters one , and she doesnt want me to touch it .

Yeah...agreed with Xueki...u need to separate them to 2 cages and let the newbie settle down wt the new environment 1st.....you bring the newbie to have a checkup at vet make sure she/he is free of lice, mites and diesease before u introduce them..... This is so called Quarantine Period.

After the quarantine period, you can put their cage next to each other so that they could smell each other....and then you can try to put both of them together during their roaming time but pls make sure you are there together with them when you put the together for their roaming section in case anything happen. This is what i did and the way i introduce Jasper to Jingle and both of them are now stay healthy and happy and they will find and wheek each other if i separate them...hehehehe....so lovely... blush.gif

Pls make sure their gender 1st as if both of them are one male and one female they will breed very very fast and pls do not mix them if you are not ready to breed them. Actually gp's owner should really think and prepare before adding new cavy but since your sister already bought...then you might need to setup a new gp cage for the newbie or they really cannot mix due to the reason of not prepare to breed or both of them are fighting as each of gp will have their own personality.

Pls check the some guidelines as below links as it would help you on understand more. It is always take times to introduce new cavy and pls be patient on it.

Hope that i have provide you some useful information and hope both of them can stay healthy and happy wt you and family.

Pls do explain to your sister abt the serious of this problem because if both of the gps cant stay along with each other, they will fight untill either one die...and i think the higher chances that the newbie will lose as he/she is still feel scared and pressure to the new environment.

If the newbie is female, whereby your current gp is male. They will breed very very fast. As you mention the newbie is very very small size now, if is SHE, she might no mature to breed yet(under 4 mths is consider not mature to breed yet) and the male might chase her because he is on heat and it might cause something happen worst.

Since now you havent take the newbie to have a check yet, and usually commercial pet shop do not provide a good care to gps. There are higher chances that the newbie is having mites or lice now and if you put them together....you big guy will be transmited too. Diseases will also transmited between both of them.

Pls at least go thru the Quarantine period and check the newbie gender 1st. This 2 steps are very important.
Since you have separated them, let them newbie settle down to the new environment instead of moving her/him to much now then only you and your sister bond and introduce them.

Wauuuuu....Pls do prepare and do more research if you want to put them together as they will breed, or else you have to get another cage for the female. I suggest you bring both of them to see vet soon, you may look for Dr.Jenny Hand n Paws at Aman Suria PJ as she is experience to small animal and she won't charge expensive also. If both of them have no problem but just doing normal deword and treatment on lice and mites, it should be around RM50 and will not more then RM80. At the same time, you can let Dr.Jenny to confirm their gender also as sometimes if the gp are still small and young, it is a bit difficult for us to identify their gender correctly.

I will soon , planning to bath the old one as he stinks so bad that i can smell him from upstairs , thanks for the help anyways , we used to breed hamsters , but there was one time when the babies were growing but it was a day before the tsunami came , i supposed the mother sensed the danger and ate them up ... sigh . Im using a hamster cage for the small one currently , planning to get a new gp cage sooner or later .

No problem at all....

Here are some pictures on my GPs happy hour in garden. It is really entertaining to see them running happily inside the garden. My garden is still messy, no time to do gardening, as I'm still busy unpacking the boxes inside the house.
