Hi all, need help here about my guinea pigs.. cry.gif

i got one abyssinian GP(female) and Peruvian GP(Male)...
my female guinea pig now keep fighting my male guinea pig so suddendly start from yesterday!!! blink.gif  blink.gif

i'm not sure why, before this ,they are so friendly cos they jumping and running all around together and sayang each other well, (of course the male keep wanna mate the female), the female just normally will reject and go away, but now the female keep chasing the male one and bite him till the male one running away from her...

i 1st thought they were playing but till i heard the male one squeekk so loud and the female had a bunch of fur in her mouth.... shocking.gif  shocking.gif
and the female start to be aggressive toward the male and keep on chasing him and bite him..lucky he had fur to be protection...if not ..think will bleed d...

i quickly separate them.

till just now, i though maybe they will be friend again, so i put them back together...but i was wrong....

another bunch of hair in her mouth....so sad... cry.gif
did anyone here experience before your GP like this?

what should i do, keep them separate like this..?

help me..
*
Sorry, never experienced such an aggressive female before. But ...are you sure your female GP is 100% female? How old is the female one? Could it be a young male that you mistaken is female?

My pregnant Sheltie GP gave birth 3 babies yesterday, only one survived (which was resuscitated by me). The mother does not know what to do. When I found out the 2 already dead. And this tiny one still moving, wet and cold. I cleaned her nose and dried her up. And put back to her mother. The one survived is weak and very tiny. At first she does not know how to suck milk from her mother. I have to use syringe to feed her water, and hand feed her alfafa. Not sure how long she could survive, as she does not know how to eat by herself.

Here is the picture of the baby. It is a mixed Abby-Sheltie. It's fur looks more like a Sheltie, no rosette swirl.

Lesson learned was never overfed the pregnant GP. My pregnant GP is too obese. Initially I thought she was pregnant in Sept. Waited for 2 months still no babies. And the babies only came out Dec 3. As she was fat (obese) that caused her developed pregnancy toxemia. Pregnancy toxemia is a serious condition that usually occurs in overweight sows in their first or second pregnancy. Signs are most likely to be noted over 1-5 days during the last 2 weeks of pregnancy or the first week following birth. These include inappetence, depression, weakness, reluctance to move, incoordination, difficulty breathing, coma and death. Some afflicted sows may show no signs and suddenly die.

There is no single cause for this condition, but stress and obesity are major predisposing factors. Others include advancing age, lack of exercise, fasting just before the onset of signs, and a large number of developing fetuses. The fundamental underlying problem appears to be inadequate blood flow to the pregnant uterus.

Sows showing any of these signs must be seen immediately by a veterinarian. Because treatment is often unsuccessful, prevention of pregnancy toxemia is of paramount importance. Pregnant sows should not be allowed to become obese.

You need to put the rubber mat base on Mickey's cage too, either wise its leg would stuck there and break its leg when it struggle.

hmmm...not really......hanz 's 1 is agouti.....if not mistaken

Hanz's one is Abby in agouti colour. Yours is Peruvian in agouti colour.

Today another Abby GP gave birth to 2 babies. One male and one female. Female is pure white with red eyes fur not like Abby at all. Male one only little light cream colour near eyes part, and whole body white, is 100% Abby look. Really wondering how the female red eyes look totally different from their parents (both Abby).

so is it male or female ah?

More Abby baby pictures. The female is pure white with red eyes and its fur does not look like Abby at all. The male is white body but cream fur on eyes part (with black eyes). I suspect the female is from different father (a Sheltie that has red eyes).

My fren looking for chinchilla.. however myself fancy with gp... especially those long long and silky silky fur 1
Will them be so smelly??
*
I like Chinchilla and Ferret too, but these 2 are more high maintenance pet than GP. In fact GPs consider high maintenance if you were to compare with hamster. I already have too many pets too take care, hence do not want to add some more high maintenance pets to my collection. May be someday I may buy Chinchilla. It is really cute especially after seeing Crazymouse's chin.

Hello,

Welcome Xueki to the forum..... rclxms.gif
Long time did not login coz very buzy in my work.....and.....i just confirm that Jingle is pregnant.....i'm very nervous....happy...scarly and.......dunno how to describe my mood.

i do some online study regarding pregnant sow...some said need to separate them but some said is ok.....can any master teach me what should i do ah? Both of them are use to stay together in door and i still own another weird  cage and can put Jasper there and next to Jingle so that they could smell each other (as Sifu Jason advice) but....just wonder after Jingle delivered, should i clean the cage or just leave the blood there? i know still not the time yet.....but i'm super worried cry.gif .......Juztiny and dato Sharil...pls  icon_question.gif .....thanks.
*
If the sow has smooth labour, then nothing much to worry. Can clean the cage and touch the baby, no problem at all.

Just don't over fed your pregnant sow till too obese, then would have high risk labour like what I had experienced. Monitor your sow when the labour date is near, as some sow may have complication labour.

I'm busy with moving house during the new year eve. Now at least things are cleared and internet connectivity is up and running. Still have some stuff not cleared, at least will take another week to settle down everything.

Now I have a small garden for my GPs to roam freely when we wash their cages. Garden size is 19 ft (L) x 4 ft (W). Plenty of space for them to roam if I put all 15 GPs in there.

sounds so excited for the garthering oh....so fast we have at 5 head counts already (included me and Jason). Since Jason was planning this garthering at earlier so i suggest he organise and contact with Juztiny on this garthering...or maybe any others do have any suggestion or idea? Pls propose to Jason yah....i just called him on sunday and telling him abt the venue of the garthering if is not convenience for Juztiny then we might can have it at Fluff @ NZX.....but now seems Juztiny's have no problem on sharing her garden...kekekeke....not a big problem lah....hehehehehe....
*
No problem at all....

Here are some pictures on my GPs happy hour in garden. It is really entertaining to see them running happily inside the garden. My garden is still messy, no time to do gardening, as I'm still busy unpacking the boxes inside the house.

Yeah.....so see yah...maybe we make it after Chinese New Year?

Ya..ya.. better still..give me more time to settle down. I wanted to make a proper wooden fencing for my garden, now run out of money to do that. Using the mesh wired fencing not very practical for my garden.

Actually I have 5 dogs, but if they all out together, they may harm the GPs, because they would team up to hunt. I only let one dog out help me to woo the GP inside the garden, so that I could catch them back into the cage.
