Lecturer loses savings in cow milk scam
BY EDMUND NGO
IPOH: A senior lecturer from a polytechnic claimed he was cheated of RM30,786 after participating in a contract farming scheme dealing with cow milk production.
Loo Leong Peng, 56, said the scheme encourages investors to buy a cow imported from Australia which would be taken care of by the company.
The company would handle the fresh milk production process at a farm in Kluang, Johor.
"The company set up a booth in a hypermarket here last year and promised a RM168,770 return for every RM30,786 invested in one cow.
"I bought the cow in August 2011 and received its birth certificate in February this year.
“I should be receiving profits in August this year but was shocked to get a notice from the company stating that that my cow had died in July 2012.
“A new replacement cow was promised six months from the date my cow died but until now, in the fifth month, there has been no news of any replacement yet and no one in the company picked up my calls,” he said at a press conference on Saturday.
Calls to the company's office in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru were not answered.
State MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Datuk Lee Kon Yin urged members of the public to come forward if they were also victims of the same scheme.
“Returns promised in the scheme may be attractive but I advise people to be careful,” he said, adding that other victims could reach Perak MCA at 05-2536981.
