but i really hope i can bring at least rm2000 or rm3000 back to malaysia for my living expenses later (i need to prepare for a room rental and job hunting in a new city as well).... i do realise its not easy to travel across big country like US ...do you know anyone who actually spent lesser during his/her trip?

Thanks again...really hope to hear more from former WAT participants to share their experiences

and one more question...im stuck at booking flights at the moment...deciding between booking directly through airline or third party (tripsta)....please advise ...?

If you hope to bring back some money, then I encourage you to travel less than a month or spend less on shopping. Plan and research first. If you plan to fly domestic, it is best to book earlier because the earlier you book,u can enjoy better price.

Anyone willing to summarise the whole process of applying for a tourist visa to the States? I am planning to go there

but kind of confused on what to do now. blush.gif I applied visa for Australia before but that was straightforward stuff,

unlike what I have been reading so far from various sources. rclxub.gif

So I guess this has probably been asked a zillion times but....what are the best US brands/items to buy from the States from personal experience? Usual suspects I'm aware of are MK, Kate Spade, Couch, Levi's, Fossil, Ralph etc. But any particular brands or items really worthwhile to wallop?

I'm going to L.A for 4 days and about 8 days in Houston. Planning to head to Citadel and Katy Mills outlet malls respectively for some shopping.

Depends on why you're entering. You will be allowed to enter the US with a one-way ticket if you have all the documentation required to prove you are a student at a US university, for example.

If you're entering on a tourist visa, forget it lol

You're referring to US federal and state tax returns right? The paperwork is not that difficult, but if you really wanted to, you can use TurboTax.

I looked around. I stand corrected.

You are not required to have a return ticket, regardless of the visa you have, but you must have evidence of ties to your home country to demonstrate intent to leave after your authorized length of stay. smile.gif

You don't need a return flight.

Thanks for the information. I still havent receive W2 form from my employer yet. If ask out of the box do, they will charge 10% of total tax refund. So far almost USD 600 goes to federal and state tax. cry.gif

Anyway I just received my last paycheck from my employer, I wonder if maybank accept my cheque from USA bank or should I go to Bank of America branch in KL to bank-in my cheque?

I think you'll need to wait for your tax documents from your employer. You have until April to get your tax forms in.

I recently asked my parents if Citibank in Malaysia takes a US bank cheque and they said no. So, based on that information, you'll need to go to the BoA branch to cash it smile.gif
