Yeah, it is a safe programme. I have known lots of people who went there and came back happily.
I also registered under speedwing.
Where are you planning to go?
How was your trip?
where did you go?
Mind sharing details?  biggrin.gif

My trip was awesome. I went to new york, chicago, san diego, san francisco, Las vegas, grand canyon and niagara falls. Anyway when choosing employer dont ever choose Cedar Point(CP) because they overhired people and you wont get enough working hours. I would say working is so-so because working experience is sucks but I managed to meet awesome colleagues. smile.gif

Grad you enjoyed it. Do they always overhire people?
Mind sharing your itinerary of your trip after u finish working?

You went alone or with friends?
I'm currently planning to go alone, so I'm not sure how am I going to travel after I finish working  sad.gif
*
For cedar point, this year they really overhired people. Just dunno why. Their maths fail i guess.XD For travel some places I go alone and some places I go with my friends. No matter where u go,u sure can meet some of your friends. For travelling you can decide while you are working haha. Most of time i do last minute. so no worries. smile.gif

Hey guys, i'm joining the program too. May i ask, which agent is better? speedwing or OOTB ? And also which employer is better and can earn more?
*
Agent wise, both are the same. For employeer, it depends on the wage rate per hour. If you want to earn more, Alaska is the best place but there is super cold compared to other states.

What make Alaska the best place? Is it because of the work hour ? or the tips ? I got a sample job list and the job details from OOTB, the pay and minimum hour  is almost the same as other employer, so this make me wondering  hmm.gif
*
Best place in terms of earning money because I spent when I still work at CP too. :/ Holiday in Alaska is really costly. Minimum wage and hours are set by the government,so they subjected to the law. Work there depends on your hardwork.

hey wenzhenzhen,

may i know what is your main mode of transport while you were travelling in US? i planned to travel from west coast to east coast (last destination is New York)...and visit only the big cities...but i afraid i will waste most of the time travelling on road only...
*
I use southwest airline from new york to san francisco. I encourage you to fly because the journey from west to east take 8 hours. If amtrak it takes 3 days.

Yeah it is ok. I normally use www.kayak.com. For domestic airlines i prefer to use southwest

i dont mind taking train as i would like to stop at some cities for visiting... but is taking train costs more than taking flight? How much did you spend for the one month trip ?

Thanks a lot for you help!!!
*
Well it is almost the same. If you planning to stop some cities, you can book multi-way haha.

here is my brief itinerary during the trip:

17/9-23/9 - New york
23/9-27/9 - san francisco
28/9-3/10 - LA
3/10-4/10 - San diego(staying at mum friend's house)
4/10 - 6/10 - Las Vegas n grand canyon
7/10 - 11/10 - San Diego
12 - 13/10 - Disneyland and universal studios

Hope this helps. PS: dont stay too long in LA, it is pretty boring after i stay there for 3 nites. 2 nites i sleep and enjoy in my hostel mansion like a boss.

but i really hope i can bring at least rm2000 or rm3000 back to malaysia for my living expenses later (i need to prepare for a room rental and job hunting in a new city as well).... i do realise its not easy to travel across big country like US ...do you know anyone who actually spent lesser during his/her trip?

Thanks again...really hope to hear more from former WAT participants to share their experiences

and one more question...im stuck at booking flights at the moment...deciding between booking directly through airline or third party (tripsta)....please advise ...?
*
If you hope to bring back some money, then I encourage you to travel less than a month or spend less on shopping. Plan and research first. If you plan to fly domestic, it is best to book earlier because the earlier you book,u can enjoy better price.

You're referring to US federal and state tax returns right? The paperwork is not that difficult, but if you really wanted to, you can use TurboTax.
*
Thanks for the information. I still havent receive W2 form from my employer yet. If ask out of the box do, they will charge 10% of total tax refund. So far almost USD 600 goes to federal and state tax. cry.gif

Anyway I just received my last paycheck from my employer, I wonder if maybank accept my cheque from USA bank or should I go to Bank of America branch in KL to bank-in my cheque?

I think you'll need to wait for your tax documents from your employer. You have until April to get your tax forms in.

I recently asked my parents if Citibank in Malaysia takes a US bank cheque and they said no. So, based on that information, you'll need to go to the BoA branch to cash it smile.gif
*
thanks for your information. I just bank-in my cheque via BoA mobile web by taking the picture of the cheque.

Has any J1 seniors file their tax return by yourself? Is turbotax suitable for people under J1 visa users?

If anybody can help out it will be great.

Based on my quick survey, the cheapest/easiest way to fly to east coast USA seems to be on the middle east airlines. Any better recommendations. SQ is too expensive, MAS is flying via Heathrow, also do-able but is more expensive than qatar/emirates

You can use skyscanner or kayak.com to get the best price of flight ticket. I paid a total of rm4,200 for my plane ticket few yrs ago where normally RM4.5k that time.
