Sui yu? Isn't sui yu's underside white?
*
As if there is only one sp of "Sui yu" in the world !!

Google softshell turtle and you will know !!

By the way if it is indeed a Pelodiscus sinensis - Chinese Softshell Turtle The underside will turn white as it grow up !!!

When i mean sui yu, i mean the ones they cook for soup dude.

Would you like to cook a fly river turtle for dinner?  smile.gif And i don't think anyone calls soft shells "sui yu" other than the ones people use for boiling soup.
*
Up to you to think that there is only one paticular sp that all call "Sui yu " !! But hey which sp is that then ??

And that paticular sp with a coloured underside is originaly from north asia - China , Taiwan , Hong Kong ....etc So should be the original "SuiYu" even before Malaysia has any Chinese ( You Malaysian Chinese rite ) !!

And your supposed " Suiyu" deemed for soup has white underside ( why ? you might ask , because all those you have tasted / seen are local sp ) !! LOL

And yes I dont mind cooking / having fly river turtle for dinner and have tasted them before in PNG and North Australia !! And I bet the natives there call them " SuiYu " in their own language !!! Thats what they are for - tucker before they reach the pet trade !! !

Go out more and read up more before leaving comments !!

Good for you you have tasted, now i know what to try  smile.gif

Yeah, i am malaysian chinese, and also, im also sure that lots of people here including me, (besides you) have only seen the ones they serve in chinese restaurants, and usually have white undersides  smile.gif .

I also think that soft shell turtles they serve in shops, also are called sui yu, and like you said, to the locals, the might be called sui yu, but to us?  blink.gif

Pls re-read my post Those Chinese softshell turtle's underside will become with as they grow larger / mature !!!

A bit too far-fetched ? But its possible rite ! As many of your animals are WC and thus genes unproven ?

For me I just wish my co-own soccer ball Tortoise will give me some Ping pong size soccer ball !! - So I can train them in time for 2010 FIFA world cup !! LOL

Well, I am just stating what was told by the Officer to my friend at Wildlife, his name is Ahmad.

It's very simple, just use your cousin's house phone and make a call to Wildlife and ask around, if you are asked to

apply for licence, then pls state the name and designation  of the officer who told you.

All the news articles about IST being confiscated at airports and the like are due to unlicenced importation and smuggling.

CITES Appendix I licence can be issued if you look at CITES website. Annex I doesnt mean impossible to issue.
Anyway, no need to retract statement, if you want the truth, just ask wildlife...pls update yourself and enlighten us ya.

Dont live in the past...Happy New year!
*
I and my friend are very interested in this part !!

- Can you or your friend Ahmad help / guide us thru this , CITES Appendix I licence !!

You thought one could just apply for one ( CITES I especially ) after you declare your animals , pay a fine or some sort !!

We dont live in the past but just being real as some ( not meaning you but those so call officers who inform your friend ) can lie thru their nose just to set bait !!

Thanks Slackerz,
Yes, 100-110 days incubation period was what i read for tortoises in general. I just what to know specifically how many days for ST. Hoping some people with experience here can confirm this.

By the way, when can we "candle light" a ST egg to see the embryo inside? I mean, how many days after the eggs were laid we shall be able to see the embryo by beam the egg with light?
Any one with the knowledge or experience please help.

Thank You.  nod.gif
*
Most of my friend's ST eggs hatch out around the 90 day mark and he candle them around the 3 week mark ( as early as 2 week you will see small network of blood veins ) but 3 weeks the embyro will be bigger and thus easier to see !!

He posted pictures before but in another forum ( THE closed down MF )

All the best with your eggs

About a month or two ago, Ikano was selling them babies for RM300 (give or take). Negotiable too. But they were sold as fast goreng pisang panas. Just FYI.

QUOTE(uzairi @ Jan 29 2009, 04:46 PM)
The one sold at Ikano was Common Snapping Turtle. smile.gif

QUOTE(Azazel @ Jan 29 2009, 06:06 PM)
I was almost sure that there were two species there i.e. commons and alligators because they looked different and were sold at a different price. Oh well, maybe the both were common snappers and the cheaper ones were the low graded ones. Anything is a possibility nowadays. smile.gif
