That lower jaw problem is normal, our moderator crazymouse_yyh got the same problem. Its natural and normal so dont worry.

About the pyramiding problem, feed them less beans and give them more green mustard as they are good for them.

How's your baby res reaction towards the shrimp ?
*
No problem bro !! I know the largest 2 being togather since 2000 and the smaller pair (put togather ) with the first 2 since 2005 or 2006 !!
All have since move on into another big cement pond with adjoining beach for nesting !!

There are a few more in between size in that group (not in picture) all live as one big happy family !!

i think the second picture is a common snapping turtle. Can further confirm if there is a red 'worm' inside its mouth.

Both Ally snapper Just the second pic is of an older specimen !!

I think if I remember correctly someone in this thread mention something about the sex

M sharper higher scutes while F flatter !!

But I think just like Indian star diet or supplements imbalance wise - Fast unbalance growth contribute to sharper scutes (I have seen both breeding adults M and F sporting flat scutes )

Cheers

BTW that so call red worm will fade to almost white as the snapper age !!

If you dont believe me ask or go check it out on 1 , 5 and 10 yr old specimen and you can compare !!

wow u got 4 in 1 tank??
i have to 2 common as well around 12"
cant live together always fight 1 another  rclxub.gif
each few months i get a bigger tank to separate the tank to half

you might want to separate them before u regret putting 4 together in future
its not like put in the tank together after 5 minutes fight, is like i grab 1 out and put in next tank the feler straight go find the other feler and wrestle

Advise noted but I think you missed a post . Theres more in that group now !! They are breeding adults now and they (sp as a whole ) not as unforgiving towards own species as most people think if you give them enough space to live in !!

Topic being discused before ( with pictures too ) try search back either V2 or V3 or just begining of V4 !!

But there are many good website with pic on how to tell them apart !!

Burmese Star and Indian Star are harder to be told apart rather than Radi and Indian !!

E yup. UVB 5.0 but if you wanna FREE source of UVB lights then the SUN lights is the best and natural UVB rays. 30 minutes per day already beneficial to your turtles.

Anyway where you from? Where did you get you turtle? Hmm wonder if I can get one..

~~Uzairi - Does Chinese Stripped Neck Turtle same as Chinese Golden Thread Turtle? Because they do look like maybe a lot of name yet their scientific name is same. I really wanted this kind of turtle for so long.

YA same just marketing name by supplier or seller !!

QUOTE(Kar @ Jun 10 2009, 02:57 AM)
Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting a Star Tortoise for myself and was wondering about a few things after some research. Hope you guys can help me out here!!

1) Is it possible to use JBL Microcalcium and JBL Terravit(Since I use them for my Leopard Geckos) as supplements for my future Star Tortoise?

2) How long can a Star Tortoise last without food?(Just in case if I go for a vacation or outstation projects)

3) How often do you need to bask them?

4) Will it be alright if it is kept in a room that has temperature drop at night to around 20 degrees or so?

Thanks in advance! smile.gif
*
1) Yes

2) Answer depends on size of specimen you getting !! Larger one last longer without food and water (But not advise-able)

3) 1/2 to 1 hr everyday will be best

4) If they can warm up to say 30 - 35 oC after that should be OK

Thanks a lot samperth, can you roughly let me know how well can they thrive without food/water. Assuming if I classify them in Hatchlings, Juveniles, Sub-adults, Adults...

Another question is that is it actually alright if I use normal low voltage light bulbs for heating purposes?

Thanks again!!  smile.gif

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jun 10 2009, 02:10 PM)
the bigger they are, the longer they can tolerate interval between meals. however, it is advisable that drinking water is provided all the times inside the enclosure.

normal feeding schedule is every day for hatchling, every other day for juveniles, 3-4 times weekly for adults.
*
Just to add a bit on camillenoir's - For hatchlings i usually feed at least twice with smaller ration daily to about 6 - 9 mths of age !!

For healthy adults even once a week is OK for short period ie a month !!

As for the water part , if enclosure is too small ie guppy plastic tank used

If the water emptied on to the substrate (sawdust , peat , repti bark)will create a humid surrounding that is deadly if kept that way for prolong period (owner away for vacation) ............

Just be logic when it come to pets , you be the judge !!!!

Hi uzairi,

Are you referring to the breeder celect cat litter pellets?
*
Ya I think he refering to that

I am using the following now (Dry species like Sulcata , Indian Star , Leopard , Pancake ...)after my supplier (Local pet shop) fail to bring Breeder Celect in

http://www.woodypet.com/

Cheaper than breeder celect and last longer !!

Yup, even with small amount you would easily exceed their calcium requirement by doing so. Once or twice per week would do just fine.
Correct.
Something that would make me a happy man lol. But i never saw this brand selling around here sad.gif
http://www.petshack.com.my/

I use to get fom them , but not anymore - Sifu found the source and we bought direct much cheaper (both stuff and freight)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[attachmentid=1018824]

Just to add a pic for size comparison
- Same as Breeder celect crumble after become wet
- Similar size pellet this one slightly bigger

Hey guys, I just got back from Purchasing a medium sized clamp lamp and a Osram 100w Tungsten Bulb. It's a little too hot and too bright as well. I'm thinking of switching to a Osram 60w Colored bulb(RED) to act as a infrared bulb. Warm but dimmer. Don't know if anyone has tried it before.

Anyway guys, I'm using a 1[cool.gif.5 ft x 1ft x 1ft glass aquarium
for a 2.5 inch ST at the moment and I'm wondering is my tank size alright and is my clamp lamp way too big for a tank that size?
*
At that size tank both the 100 W or the 60 W will cook it in no time !! Try 40 W first and better connect to a dimmer !!

hey my turtle is same as yours, did u buy it at sunway pyramids? cos i bought mine there last may, one week after they had finished all the stock, i think they died lah, cannot finish so fast. i reseached on it and found out this turtle is called Chinemys reevesii  (Reeve's Turtle) and it is very small, grow up to 12 cm.. so cute isnt it! but yeah, i bought two, one died in one week, the other is fully attacked by fungus and dunno what... i think most of those turtles had some infection cos they were shipped from Taiwan to Malaysia and this might happen... sigh... good luck wid urs ya ^^

BTW I think yours is a Chinese Striped-neck turtle, (Ocadia sinensis) rather a Reeve's Turtle (Chinemys reevesii ) !! Do a close up of the face with neck streched and a underside pic and all will be clear !!

For reference they do look alike if seen from far !!
