hye guys, any suggestion to feed the cats as my cat is a bit choosy compared to her brother n sister.. usually she will consume a little amount of food (wet food)..
I feed her Friskies wet for kitten.. any other brand u can suggest??
my plan is to feed her so that she will be fatter..
thanx in advance...
*
how old is your cat anyway?

have you ever visit vet? vaccine? deworming?

Are you feeding wet food all the time?

--

im not sure if it is adult or kitten, kitten will always be faster eater, but if your kitten is slow eater, you need a vet.

if u never visit vet before, now it's time to wake up. vaccine your cat and deworm them. check the health status on why they don't eat that much.

wet food won't give your cat much nutrition. Get your cat a good quality dry food, such as royal canin, science plan, iams, orijen, etc. If your cat has weight problem, then you can choose kitten food, since kitten dry food contain a lil bit higher nutrition.

lastly, check your cat weight and age. if he/she is on average weight which is a good weight while eating less, then there's nothing to worry about. Unless your cat is under weight then you need a wake up call to do something. ask vet for advice.

but if vet say your cat is average weight, but you still want him/her to be fat, remember, fat always lead to sickness.

so think about, do you want yourself to be happy having fat fat cat, or having a happy cat with solid body. cat by nature born to have a solid body like cat in the wild.

el..its me again...just wanna ask...mine is now at most 4kilos ++..and age almost 8months...the weight seems good or else...?

scale in which can i follow to be guide for me to exactly know in which healthy state my cat is?
thx for reading and hoping gettin ur answer...salam..
*
the only way is to see your cat and feel the body. i can't tell 4kg for 8 months is normal or not. because i need to see the cat size. some cat born with smaller body structure, some are big, some are shorter.

body length and size = body weight. both must balance.

touch the bottom part of the body, there should not be any hang over extra fat.
the hips must not visible.
back bone must be solid, not broader.
your cat is overweight if you cannot feel the ribs.

you can check this 2 articles:
Is my cat overweight?
Feeding your cat the right way.

the best way to ask your vet, when you bring your cat for vaccine or deworm, they will weight your cat. and see the different from last visit smile.gif

QUOTE(zulkis @ Mar 25 2009, 09:13 AM)
Yeah agreed with Al,

My mother in law always believe that giving wet food to cats give the cats more nutrition. I always object and argue her on this. When i bought dry food for the cats (usually i bought RC or Iams) I ask her to give the cats, but at last she always give the cat nasi and mixed with fish or sometime add some fish skeleton.

I'm afraid that the cats will loose weight, FYI my cats are mix breed; i have persian, local and siamese. I'm afraid the persian would have problems in the future. They can eat nasi or not? Hehe...
*
cat do not need carbohydrate like nasi, gandum, roti, ubi, etc blush.gif

cats are meat eater, they need high protein food.

cats need high nutrition food for their skin and coat. else it will be faded away.

cats need high protein for their muscle, since they are born to run and hunt like their grand father the lion and tiger.

the by product food in in market...
-low quality such as whiskas, friskies, etc = more carbo than protein = that is why it is cheap, since carbo is cheaper than protein source. most of the protein in low quality food is from fish, this is another reason it is cheaper than other type.

-premium such as rc, sp, iams, etc = more protein, but still added alil bit grains and rice = the price is reasonable. most premium made from chicken protein which is good.

-super premium such as orijen, innova evo, etc = 100% meat, no grains or rice = that is why the price is higher than premium food. most of them are made from cow and turkey, which is far better and yummy. wow for the price tongue.gif

hye guys...

how do u feel about feeding raw meat to ur cats? one of the forummers here in lyn.net sugggested for me to give a try..any1 try it b4?
*
yeap u can feed raw meat (need frequent deworming), make sure it is fresh, not frozen one.

u can also use boneless chicken...but ofcourse meat is far better.

as long as you have time to prepare the food on daily basis, then that is good smile.gif

QUOTE(mizeily @ Mar 25 2009, 02:29 PM)
which is more expensive? meat / chicken or kibbles? nnti x sakit prut ke mreke?
*
susah nak cakap harga ayam, daging or produk komersil yang mahal. sbb produk komersil lain brand lain harga. ada yang murah, lebih murah dari gula dan garam eheheh.

meat or chicken ni, the problem is, you need to make sure it is fresh. which means, you can buy it in big kilograms, else you might end out frozen it. dah tak bagus lagi.

kucing tak sakit perut, sebab by nature memang dorang makan mentah.

the different between fresh and kibbles is, kibbles are always process into packs of nutrition (all the vitamin needed, flavor, and etc). so you don't have to worry if your cat is lake of each nutrition because it is all inside on pack.

when you feeding raw food or fresh food, you need to add up some other extra things for flavor and making it alil bit more delicious. how about asking mr.google for help, search for "making my own cat food", "preparing cat food recipes", and etc.

-
p/s. last time daging 1kg is rm14. so if compare with my Science plan 15kg per month...

let say i need daging 15kg, that will be RM210 (need to plus some other extra ingredients)
science plan 15kg = rm172 (no need to buy anything else since it is pack with nutrition and other ingredient).

at the same time, i'm feeding raw food 3 times a week... yes the budget for this small quantity of raw food is not exceed rm50 a month.

fish is cheap, that is why the low cost cat food like whiskas and friskies is cheaper than other brand that use chicken and meat.

but you must remember, fish is not as rich as chicken and meat in term of protein and fat. the longer you steam or boil the fish, the more nutrition will be gone. so you end up feeding your cat with a very less nutri.

feeding raw food 24/7 will also lead to teeth tar tar problem, so you need to brush the cat teeth with recommended pet tools.

She's a kitten, about 4months, and has been visiting Vet (2 vaccination, 1 deworm) this is because she's VERY-VERY ACTIVE.... eventho everytime my wife feed the other, she will leave the food 1st.. tried steamed chicken breast, tried IAMS and also tried Hill's a/d ... quite expensive tho..
*
yes kitten food is expensive than the adult food.

the smaller the size in kilogram, the expensive it get. so to save budget, get the bigger pack like 10kg. it can last for 3 months if you have 1 kitten.

example:
iams adult 3kg = rm60
iams 9kg = rm132

if you buy the small pack of 3kg every month, after 3 months you spend rm180, while if you buy the big pack 9kg that can last for 3 month also is rm132. so better buy the big pack. you save rm48.

ow..u also feed raw food to them eh? meaning u have to deworm them every 3 months la ye? wow...patut la ur cats all lawa2 smile.gif nnti i try lah...if i ikut ur cara rite, just give the meat lah? no need to campur with the kibbles? meaning raw meat 2 becomes lunch / dinner for that day la..like dat ek?

another thing el, when u used to used OKO plus kn, 10L tu can last how long?

zulkis...i think that price is resonable lah...can b considered as cheap lah..even in kl pun payah nk dpt harga around that range..
*
yea i feed raw and semi-raw 3 times a week.

yes, i need to frequent deworm them. just purchase the deworm pills from the vet. so i don't have to bring all of them.

my cats lawa? ehehe thank you. remember they are neutered and spayed already. so no more stress for sex. sbb tu kerja makan, main, tidur, melabur.

no i don't mix it with kibbles if i feed raw.

chicken = biasa i beli bahagian dada, sebab banyak isi. then i will chop it into smaller size about saiz dadu. normally chicken i will boil sekejap, like 30 second to 60 second. ayam ni, kalau mentah dia liat, kalau dah kena panas sedikit, dia tak liat sangat. so the water u used to boiled the chicken, boleh jadi air minum dorang.

daging = i will feed raw. jangan ambik daging bahagian banyak urat pulak. ambik fully meat. daging jangan rebus, sebab daging ni, lagi rebus lagi keras. so potong dadu juga.

if you have small kitten, then lebih halus potongan tu.

yes if i feed them raw 3 times a week, it will be samada untuk lunch atau dinner. kalau lapar lagi, they go for kibbles macam biasa. so which means, 1/2 saja raw food tu.

--

OKO Plus, i don't use this anymore. the last time i used it waktu ada 4 ekor kucing saja.i last for 1 month +. so i don't know how long OKO plus will survive for 10 cats now.

oko plus is good, i wonder how much is the price now? the biggest pack how much eh? anybody know?

deworm in 3 months? wow... i taught only once..hehe
*
now you know eheheh...

u need more deworm if you cat is outdoor cat.

how your cat get the worm?
- from catching and eating rodents and birds, which almost always harbor intestinal parasites in their intermediate life stages (larvae and eggs)

- contact with soil and dirt, which can contain worms in their larval and egg stages.

- contact with other cat that has alot of worms.

- sharing litter box with other cats that has not deworm yet.

eheheh 40L is like 40kg right.. so i dont think cat food 40kg cost rm135, should be much and much more expensive.

but if you compare litter to litter, then it is expensive. but yet OKO PLus is good in handling odor. that's why the price is WALLA.

QUOTE(pumpkinn @ Mar 27 2009, 05:01 PM)
hi El,
i bought my cat a new cat litter called Feline Fresh last week. it has a type of smell (donno what smell is that) and my cat doesnt even want to go inside the litter box. she will slowly.... and carefully.... step inside and pee, and once she is done, she is quickly jump onto the side of the litter box and use one 'hand' to cover off the pee. does this mean that she doesnt like this brand of cat litter? or maybe she is just not used to it?
*
normal if u change to a new type of litter. remember cats are very fussy. if they love one thing, the will love it forever. but if it is come to toys, they will love till destroying them LOL.

im not sure what type of litter you using before, and feline fresh is what type? are you changing from clay sand to pine wood type anyway? if yes, then that is the reason why.

it takes time for them to love it. when you search for litter tips, the article will mention that, some cat do not like his/her litter type, some takes time to get used with new stuff.

one hand to cover off the pee? as far as im concern, cat do use one hand only to cover pee.. can't imagine if they use both hand, that will be like a rabbit digging hole ehehehe.

you are still consider lucky pumpkinn... one of my cat, name mia. not sure you know her or not. she is the one in my avatar. she have this one behavior which can be good, can be bad too.

bad = after poo and pee, she never cover it up. just leave it like that.
good = she keep her hand clean, she told me, her nails will be dirty digging the sand and pee/poo. she wants to keep her claws beautiful at all time doh.gif

other female cats say = damn! she is so paris hilton.
other male cats say = she is a weird girls... geesshh!

its normal because you just change your litter. unless if you have been using feline fresh for 1-2 months, and your cat is still acting weird, than your cat is not normal...
