one way is to use your palm to test.

touch your finger to your thumb and press the exposed palm with your other hand. After that, use your finger to press the meat and see how "well" it's cooked.

Index finger - RARE
Middle finger - Medium Rare
Ring finger - Medium well done
pinky - well done.

it takes awhile to be able to judge the doneness of the steak using this method. Took me a few tries to be able to cook my steak to perfection.

Also, the thickness of the cut of the meat will affect its cooking time. If possible, do get a thick slab of meat... they taste nicer. smile.gif

A main course steak would cost you roughly rm 100.. kinda pricey but the meat is to die for drool.gif i only go there for special occasion biggrin.gif

you might end up ordering more that a main course tho, so you might wanna bring more cash icon_rolleyes.gif

edit: they have a website at www.jakes.com.my , not sure why i cant access it. you might wanna try later smile.gif

Hello all,

Recently I have fallen in love with steaks and can't have enough of them. Any recommendation where to go to get the best steak in Malaysia? I've tried mostly those franchise one, such as TGI, Chilis, tony romas etc. I have yet to try victoria station and san francisco steak house, they are my next destinations. Any other suggestions?

Also what is the best beef for steak? I heard sirloin is the best. What do you guys think?

What about the degree of cooking? I personally love medium or medium rare. What about you guys? I would love to hear your recommendations.

Thanks!

last time my mom used to have a restaurant and there is 1 western chef.
i think his steak or lamb or etc is the best till now..im like you, been in those shop you mention above, but i think the chef meal is the best.
Now,my maid used to working with 1 of famous private spa in shah alam.so she know how to cook western like the chef working in the spa.
Her western food, two thumbs up.. smile.gif
Theres is nothing can compare both of them, because what they cook, have its own specialty. So,i like both.
60% of delicious is come from the gravy, another 40% is from the meat.

Degree of cooking i prefer medium-well.Coz its not too dry and juicy. smile.gif

a good steak only requires some seasoning on the beef, then grilled to perfection.. don't think the gravy is necessary
if like what you said, the gravy > meat in terms of the tastiness, the steak itself is a failure already

As stated by Stimix, there a thread regarding steak in Malaysia. For me I would rank as this, Prime>Jake>Angus>Maredo/Gaucho Grill. I love medium.
